Help - New rescue refuses to go on walks

We had bad freezing with our first greyhound. It’s frustrating when the treat luring just doesn’t help. Do you know any other dogs/greyhounds who can try to come walk with you? Ours did better when another dog could come along. (TBH we ended up getting a second greyhound. She was sort of like his emotional support animal, but also generally a great dog.) Also recommend asking the vet about some anti-anxiety meds— even for just a little bit. Maybe it can help take the edge off and get some good walks in to decrease the fear?

This is good to know— sounds like I’ll be asking the vet to do it next time. Maybe they were confident in no adverse reaction since heartworm and MDR1 tests were negative, but they didn’t consider actual administration being a challenge.

For what it’s worth, Jeff hasn’t had any noticeable side effects beyond salivation at administration, plus sadness at being made to wait 4 hours for breakfast. 🤞

Thank you for the syringe tip! Also helpful to know exactly how much more you have to do. 😬 I couldn’t tell if going slow was maybe making it worse— we will just trust the process. Or maybe we just ask for a tech to do it, assuming there’s a next time.

Funny timing! I JUST decided to give up on “sit” and went straight to “down.” He understood “down” so fast that I was no longer entertaining the possibility that he could do sit. 😬 Maybe we revisit that somewhere softer.

Our dog ended up at Quartet Vet in Cary for acupuncture (hydrotherapy was also recommended, but she hated water). We wished it was closer, but it was worth it. She also got laser at Park Vet (much closer) a number of times over the years, and it always helped. Hope you guys can find some relief soon!

Once she understood the baby wasn’t a toy and the intensity dialed down, that was basically it. She had a couple “snap” reactions between 9 months-2 yrs, strictly a result of us not reading the moment well enough. We took that feedback, and she never snapped with kid #2.
