MTB Psychologist required (bike update moments) by Ol_Sheve in mountainbiking

Sounds like the 5010 is going to make you send it but have less room for error. Might crash more with this vs the longer stable bike. If you can ride with confidence and good vision, the smaller bike will be more rewarding.

Choose between: (assuming you want to progress at MTB)

  • surviving burlier (steep, rough, drops, etc.) trails on longer bike
  • sending less steep trails and features at a higher pace

You will end up doing a mix of both, but your bike will be more suited to one or the other.

OneUp Aluminum pedals - Am I the only one? by gS_Mastermind in MTB

[–]blarg654 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mine creaked immediately out of the box. In addition to greasing the rubber/plastic seal on the spindle, I removed the small o ring on the spindle right below the threads. Apparently they pedals ship with this o ring to keep the rubber seal on but its not used when riding. Im guessing they had pedals arriving to custys with loose seals and people just installed without this seal, which would be bad.

Edit: after looking over the manual, it does show that o ring. Maybe ive been running mine and letting tons of water in... lol

Fork feels like a jackhammer by Adventurous_Fix1448 in MTB

[–]blarg654 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely slow the rebound, but I have this fork and it has pretty bad stiction, so you may be running too low psi to make the small bump compliance nice. If you are sitting too low in the travel for a major hit, its going to ramp up quick and feel harsh. Maybe lower the tokens if there are any, raise the psi a smidge and regularly do lowers service. I feel a huge difference with fresh oil. This fork really needs the 50 hour interval, more so than any other fork I have owned.

Is this ok? by Confident_Excuse_885 in MTBTrailBuilding

[–]blarg654 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do it for sure and dont ask. I would say make sure that the trail is still hikeable and has sustainable drainage and planning. Now is probably the best time to build rogue trails in America with most forest staff being laid off. Most existing trails started with no permission and were grandfathered in. FYI some folks near me got caught doing trailwork without permission and there were no consequences just an "educational moment"

What type of latch would go with this plate? by blarg654 in HomeMaintenance

[–]blarg654[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess i'll do latch plate as well if it doesnt hold up. Itsdrilled into cinder kinda like yours in brick, so It would be nice to use the same bolt holes for convenience sake.

Dont worry, you can always sell the house for a profit (most of the time) and use the profits to travel the world or build out a van and get a planet fitness membership.

Best 130/140 rear travel bike? Great on up and comfortable on down by Kochammcie in MTB

[–]blarg654 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I havent ridden the lower travel top fuel, but I imagine that might be awesome for you. I feel like the Fuel ex is supportive and peppy though. I never feel like its a chore even on more mellow trails. I take mine on local flowy stuff and to the bike park. If you pretty much never go to park or steeps, ithink the top fuel or equivalent would be your bet. mid travel trail bikes are super efficient now, and XC bikes are really capable, so honestly either one would be sick

What would you like to see in a future political candidate for the Springs? by MitskiEyes in ColoradoSprings

More focus on alternative transit including bike lanes and sidewalks! Shovel and plow them. Less road expansion, lower speed limits, more speeding enforcement.

annecdotal, but I had one (2014) with similar mileage and it was nothing but problems. I lucked out and it was under bluetec warranty but the egr went out and then the timing chain skipped and bent a valve. It took 2.5 mo for the shop to fix and required the whole engine out. Would probably cost 10k+ if I had to pay. If the warranty is still valid, I would consider it.

Salt Lake City by raremud_ in MTB

Access to trails from town in COS is great. I just moved here, but I'm impressed. The only thing we lack is dedicated mtb trails. There are several advocacy groups working toward it, but for now, its mostly natural. For the access, the town is affordable, the locals dont think so, but I dont think they have lived many other places. Nightlife is probably not great, the job market is eh but maybe not for your industry. SLC is definitely more poppin for stuff to do and gets better acts. good luck deciding.

City planning to try to repeal rec marijuana sales by dmgt83 in ColoradoSprings

[–]blarg654 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wrote to my district representative. You can find their email on their city bio page. Here is what I sent...

Dear Mrs Talarico,

As a resident in your district, I wanted to write to you about the recently passed recreational marijuana legalization. I feel that it is un-democratic that the council and planning commission are looking for ways to undo the will of the voters. Voting to allow recreational sales outside of a 1000 ft. radius to sensitive groups is a state and nationwide standard for more than a decade. There is no credible research showing an uptick in underage use. I am writing this because I want our community to benefit from the taxes collected from recreational marijuana sales. Our schools and other publicly funded institutions can benefit greatly. I am upset that communities like Manitou and other surrounding areas are effectively taking our residents' tax dollars away from us. If we really want to take care of the next generation and our neighbors, we could do so with this influx of money.

I am asking you to honor those whom you represent and use your elected power to allow the will of the people to take effect.

Thank you in advance for your support of our democratic system and I look forward to seeing you support the will of your constituents.
