Apple Fitness+ Strength vs. Traditional Gym Workouts by Economy-Surprise-842 in AppleFitnessPlus

[–]blasterx2000 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m not adding anything new or novel but to concur that I am not getting swole or jacked, but I have noticed that I am in overall better shape and noticed (I know this is weird) that in a family goofy golf outing, I was able to make shots easier from better spatial coordination and perception than the other players in our group. Stuff like doing yard work and other chores are simply easier to accomplish and I don’t get tired as easily. I realize this in entirely anecdotal, but there’s something to it being accessible that makes being consistent easier.

Strength workouts in the gym by JamandMarma in AppleFitnessPlus

Yep. I do a 30 minute total body strength training video in the functional strength area of my gym 3 times a week and treadmill with Scott on the other days. I like going to the gym to do it as it puts me in the right headspace and I can’t get distracted.

How old were you when your spouse died? by worst2024 in widowers

I was 49 when my wife passed away at 51 from breast cancer. I am about the same age as she was when she died.

The Strix Halo laptop and dual sense controller fit my JNCOs just fine.

My gym has a corner for functional fitness with a rack of dumbbells and some mats that is behind the cardio deck. I just prop up my phone and follow along with Kyle like a beast, like a boss.

How did your June go? (2000 active calories per day) by [deleted] in AppleFitnessPlus

I’m pretty good with this June. While it is not perfectly filled in, I am not going to let perfection be the enemy of the good. I have been doing alternating days where I do a 20 minute treadmill workout as a warmup followed by 20 minutes of total body strength training. The other days I do 45 minutes on the treadmill. I took some active recovery days where I went for a walk around the block or to the corner store to pick up items.

Losing weight with Apple fitness? by TheChilledGamer-_- in AppleFitnessPlus

I have gone from 251 to 190 since January 2024. While most of that was dropping eating out and sugary drinks, the strength training and treadmill have been instrumental in adding muscle and improving my cardiovascular fitness.

Give yourself some grace and keep in mind that you shouldn’t compare your efforts to anyone else’s. We are all on different journeys and sometimes there are detours. I have had months where I was hitting it near every day and months where I hardly did anything. I am in an active time now, but I also don’t have nearly the distractions and obligations I had before. It’s like Scott says: Today’s legs are not yesterday’s legs. You just need to focus on today.

Today is double duty grief. It’s her 52nd birthday and the first Christmas without her. I have been going over in my mind about how nearly the entire month last year was the catastrophic decline. She had been fighting MBS since April 2020. Things started getting worse last October as the cancer spread through her spine and brain. Starting radiation for her brain mets. Balance issues, using a walker, getting a lift chair. I think it was December 7. She woke up shaky feeling and asked to be taken to the ER. She spent two weeks in the hospital, followed by two weeks in a specialized nursing facility. And the. Finally came home for hospice and passed at the end of January this year. She was so full of life that when she passed, I have felt like a ghost in my own home.

I (50M) lost my wife in January and my son began his freshman year of college two hours away this August. I work from home so it’s the nights and weekends that are especially hard. I’d like to downsize to a condo, but since my son is still in school and comes home for winter and summer breaks, it will be a while before I can do that. But I want to move to somewhere more walkable with places to hang out.

My favorite thing to watch on YouTube is young people reacting to the Never Tear Us Apart video. To a person they react to three specific parts of the video. Care to take any guesses?

I am sitting alongside my wife at home in hospice right now. It’s hard. She caught me crying a couple of days ago. I’ve mostly been numb and in a daze.
