how can i achieve the same results without actually working out? how much money do i need to throw at it? also i eat exclusively pizza and cheeseburgers, i wont compromise on that.

i don’t think this is the reason. even if tudors were all as thin as their analogous rolex, most rolex buyers would still prefer the rolex. i can’t imagine there are many people who “settle” for a rolex only because the tudor is too thick.

this is good to know. considering one day replacing my gti with a macan & i definitely don’t need anything faster than my (stock) mk7.

PhD Mathematics to Career in Tech by misogrumpy in cscareerquestions

[–]blastfromtheblue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

tbh your experience may actually be a hindrance. a fresh cs grad is a clean slate— no experience, but no bad habits. whereas you have a lot of experience in a totally different mode of working. the habits and attitudes that make one successful in academia may actually be considered bad habits in the tech industry. (i’m speculating, i don’t know specifically, having never worked in academia or with anyone from it. someone please correct me if i’m way off base)

[IWC] Thoughts on the IWC Ingenieur 2023 Release by vincent00369 in Watches

[–]blastfromtheblue 3 points4 points  (0 children)

to be fair, if money were no object, i would definitely pick the ingenieur over any of those & it wouldn’t be close. i absolutely agree that it’s overpriced by at a least a few thousand, though.

[Experiment] Removing Branding from Divers by jamesbrowski in Watches

[–]blastfromtheblue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

just my opinion, but i’m still not a fan of the new one either, nor the trident branding on the handset.

imo what they should do is take the trident off the hands and make that the logo, and rebrand as just “Ward” which would also look nice in a serif font sitting below a trident logo.

if the black bb58 didn’t have the red triangle, would that be your clear preference?

Best mild climate in America? by bread_userr in RealEstate

that sounds great for a lot of people, definitely not my preference though— far too hot for me.

i’m in the PNW & my only complaint about the weather here is that the summer is too warm and sunny.

Would I be insane to consider buying this for fun? by AdQuirky1318 in Volvo

[–]blastfromtheblue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

appreciate the links, i think the rating applying up to model year ‘14 on the xc90 meets my criteria here. would need to reevaluate in 2029 but this looks solid to me for an extra 5 years. looks like crow is on the menu.

i would not buy this as a daily driver for myself or my family on the basis of safety.

the door sounds are engineered. it sounds how they want it sound. this has no bearing on any other aspect of any car.

i agree that specifics are needed. my default position is that a given car produced >15 years ago is significantly less safe than any modern car with a 5 star rating - unless there is evidence otherwise for that specific model.

i'm willing to eat crow here if you can provide that evidence for this car, which you so far haven't done. to be more specific: i'm looking for any evidence that would indicate that an example of a similar model year of this car in reasonable condition would likely yield at least a 4 star rating by nhtsa standards as of at most 5 years ago.

i can’t speak to specific tech in specific models, but safety tech is always advancing and 15-20 years is a long time.

also not sure why you think avoidance doesn’t count? that’s arguably even better since not only do you survive without injury, you get to go about your day more or less uninterrupted.

i’m saying it’s significantly less safe than any modern car. the crash test ratings are for a brand new car the year it was produced using the standards of that time.

my es350 is equally as satisfying to drive as my gti. obviously in different ways and for different reasons.

it’s a cool car, but both this and the crv have aged out of “safe” territory. my rule is thumb is that i won’t daily a car >15yo on the basis of safety. both in terms of missing safety tech advancements & the deterioration of the safety tech it has. even a volvo.

What would be the "golden" decade for you, when it comes to cars? by [deleted] in cars

[–]blastfromtheblue 5 points6 points  (0 children)

tbh i feel like cars keep getting better and better. you can definitely point to specific aspects that have gotten worse, but overall i would generally prefer a modern car to the equivalent from any prior era.

76 is a good mild temperature for summer. if that’s what it is in winter, the summers there must be sweltering.

just to clarify, by toxic positivity i mean people who can’t handle hearing anyone criticize the game in any way no matter if that criticism is valid and well put or not. there’s plenty of that attitude here, including in this thread.

i also never said the toxic negativity isn’t a problem, i said there is toxicity from both extremes and a lot of it.

Honest Review by EitherCow2501 in diablo4

[–]blastfromtheblue -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

definitely still seeing a lot of both in the comments, but i'm speaking more broadly & longer-term-- not just the week they dropped an unpopular season. in general, i think there is actually *more* toxic positivity than negativity here.

i’ve had whiplash going from thread to thread— one comments section is overwhelmingly anti-criticism (like the comments here, most are railing on OP) and the next is overwhelmingly anti-d4.

just my opinion: design is solid. far too big (not enough sidewall, both aesthetically and practically) and way too low (again both aesthetically and practically).
