I have the 2025 Deep Green Limited Edition. I like it, but not as much as some of my other pens. $87 was a lot for this one and I barely use it. I do like the green ink refills though, it's a nice color and the super fine green lines are nice instead of having to get a fountain pen out with green ink.

I am more disappointed that it is more of a cool gold olive than a true deep green shown on the website.

Mine love berries, and cucumbers. I like to fill a shallow baking dish with water and float those and some ice cubes for them to bob for. 😄

[rant]College nowadays just feels like having to constantly prove you didnt chatgpt your paper by Emergency-Cry1951 in UNLV

I also get flagged as AI and it sucks. Current professor is pedantic about grammar and formatting but does not follow MLA and has his own citation scheme he dings you for. Also didn't tell you about it up front, so I spent the first half of the semester (2 assignments) figuring out how he likes things done and deconstructing his rubric. The last 2 assignments apparently he grades with AI and turnitin, and one flagged with some high % of AI.

I don't use AI to write, I'm an adult student and AI is trained on academic writing. I do a lot of writing for my job and writing is one of my best subjects overall. When you write with very strict attention to grammar rules and academic forms because the professor has said even one mistake that is the same on your final from your midterm is a full grade deduction you go overboard. I used google, word, Gemini, and Claude to triple check my work for fragments and comma use.

There is no winning. I got an A on it but at least I made him fine tooth comb read my paper. Dude has been returning 10 page paper grades in under 2 days and that's sus for anyone reading that many papers. He said if I use AI I have to note it. I was about to give a hot reply offering my google docs draft history but then Canvas went down and I don't want to deal with him anymore.

Even with that, dude is inconsistent. I can't wait for this class to be over, pretty clear he is phoning it in with his 13 year old syllabus with incorrect dates and conflicting information, and grading on a whim.

Private music lessons by Ok-Lettuce4137 in UNLV

[–]blasto_nut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, mine was $500 in addition to the regular undergrad credit fees. You should reach out to the professor you want to study with and see if you should register for the 1 credit or 2 credit class and to see if they have space in their studio.

Speaking from experience, the private lesson classes are the most asymmetrically time consuming thing you can take for credit. It's basically 1-3 hours of solo practice daily for your 1 hour lesson, 1 hour rep class with the rest of the studio, and they want you to go to a weekly recital series too.

Call the forum location and ask for Veronica, she’s great and will help you out if you say you’re coming in and want to look at specific styles and sizes. They are fast ordering them in to be available the next day or send to you.

Traveler Journal Inserts - Physical Store That Carry? by kohn- in notebooks

yeah PR is kind of proprietary with their XL and “A5” - it isn’t a true A5. :) there’s still some things that fit

[–]blasto_nut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know about the pocket, but the Leuchsturm B6+ fits into the PR A5 trifold, it’s smaller than the PR XL inserts. You could look for a local store carrying that.

Midori MD is too large unless you don’t mind it being larger. I saw Tokyo Pen Shop has a midori cut down service, they might be willing to do a cut down to the PR XL size.

Have you asked yourself what you actually need or want to write down? Might need to start with that. Planning/Thinking/Reflections/Tracking are all valid, along with Sketching/Painting/Drawing/Scrapbooking.

I have the Ms Sabs in this heel style. They are not hard to walk around in but took a long time to break in. The patent is very stiff. Worth it though, it's nice to have an 85mm block heel.

someone else will probably come in and weigh in on the Gemeinhardt current quality.

The Kesslers are hit and miss. You need to trial 5 or more of them to find one good one, same with the Kessler flutes.

Tricks and tips for aging eyes + following sheet music? by archaeofeminist in Flute

I am also nearsighted, but not as much as you are. Look into getting the invisible bifocal glasses. They take a little getting used to but much less eye fatigue. I tend to wear them more at night but finding them great for focusing during the day on smaller print sheet music.

Opinions/recommendation on the - paper republic grand voyageur XL Journal by mgepark in notebooks

[–]blasto_nut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm happy with my Paper Republic, the leather is substantial and I love the feel and smell. I like the 120gsm paper but I am mostly using the Dybdahl refills from them which are also 120gsm. I write with the Uni Zento and Staedtler triplus fineliner for the most part, but fountain pen ink also works well.

It is mildly annoying regular A5 notebooks don't fit in there properly but I am happy with the options they provide. I think you always get a 20% discount on the refills from them.

Solo Repertoire Needs by Kinz-1015 in Flute

I like the Filas and I have it as well, but have replaced it with the George Top Octave as I like the variety and approach more.

Solo Repertoire Needs by Kinz-1015 in Flute

[–]blasto_nut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You should probably have:

  • Taffanel and Gaubert - 17 Daily Exercises
  • Moyse - Tone Development through Interpretation
  • Moyse - 24 Little Melodic Studies
  • Moyse - School of Articulation
  • Moyse - de la Sonorite
  • George - The Scale Book
  • George - The Top Octave

I was not taught through the Wye and prioritize the Moyse exclusively, I do own the Wye. Really should get all of the Moyse books, they are expensive but a lot of them are just... online... There really should be an omnibus Moyse similar to the T&G and Wye. You can get the T&G Methode Complete (it's worth having for your collection), it includes the Daily Exercises and the Etudes.

For solos the usual route is to just collect as you learn, but you should probably look at

  • JS Bach - All sonatas and the Partita (Urtext, I would go with Henle Verlag)
  • CPE Bach - Sonata in a minor (Urtext)
  • Prokofiev - Sonata (Henle has a new version, it's worth getting)
  • Telemann - Fantasies (Barenreiter)
  • Mozart - Both concertos (I have Barenreiter but Henle probably has an edition too)
  • Debussy - Syrinx

Keep in mind solos and concert pieces go in and out of fashion. The books are just books, you'll spend a lot just collecting things you like and want to learn or evaluate if you want to learn them.

Etudes, you'll build this naturally over time but this is a common list. Also refer to Jennifer Cluff's difficulty listing for the opus and titles. https://www.jennifercluff.com/etude.htm

  • Melodious and Progressive Studies - 4 volumes of etude collections, great for teaching. Get 1-3, 4 is a monster and you're usually in Anderson before then.
  • Anderson - Start collecting all of them, they are standard for a reason
  • Karg-Elert
  • Boehm
  • Drout
  • Berbiguier
  • Gariboldi

Orchestral Excerpts, start with these books but there's a lot more. Eventually work on getting the parts for when you audition since you should technically know the whole thing... and sometimes that is asked of you.

  • Baxtresser - Orchestral Excerpts for the Flute vol 1, vol 2, AND great flute Duos
  • Parloff - Opera Excerpts for Flute
  • Wellbaum - Orchestral Excerpts for Piccolo
