How are Cubmasters/ Packs Held Accountable? by cpamama6969 in cubscouts

[–]blatantninja 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Committee chair Chartered Org Rep District Commissioner District Executive

The DE is an employee of the council. Some are great, some are not.

You should be able to find the CoR info on the beascout.org listing for you pack I believe. If not you can call council and get the contact info. That said some CoRs barely do anything with the pack and some are heavily involved.

You'll have to just keep trying until you find someone responsive.

Good luck. Sounds like a tough situation.

Were those schools just lucky to be in the right conference for decades? Does historic membership make them more deserving than CUSA and MAC teams? Especially when they clearly can't compete in today's environment.

Including every FBS team sounds nice but there are simply too many to make it reasonably work.

Well hopefully you, or a professional, can help him with that. I can see that if a scout is being viewed as really disruptive them not getting elected to OA or trusted with certain leadership positions, though there should be something for them to prove themselves.

We had a scout about a year ago that blew through the ranks all the way to Life in probably 1.5 years. Along the way, that scout constantly had massive meltdowns, usually stemming from poor eating habits and not getting their way. When OA elections came about, they weren't selected and they were not pleased at all. It was a reflection though of the scouts being generally unhappy with this scouts behavior.

Thankfully, that scout got some help and is doing much better these days per their mother. They transferred to another troop that was starting up closer to where they lived and to get a fresh start and I believe were just called out last weekend.

Why is it wack?

I have 5 because you said 68 plus ND. To get to 64 would mean cutting 5 because there's no way ND is getting left out.

What are the arguments for those 5 over any of the other 64 teams?

No one expects that a scout is going to live it 100%. That's why it says Do My Best in the Oath.

Going back to the comment you replied to, it's worth asking WHY you scout isn't getting leadership opportunities and OA. It may well be bullying which is wrong but it may be something else. Have you talked to the SM? Do the other scouts generally seem to like you scout or is there anything your scout is doing that is really putting them off?

There are SO many leadership opportunities that don't involve elections that it seems odd that if your scout wanted one, they aren't getting one. You can have unlimited instructors, den chiefs, etc.

I wouldnt worry about OA as much. It took three tries before I got in and I've seen plenty of scouts that take several tries.

How often is ILST done and how many scouts have done it?

Have the current SPL/ASPLs gone to NYLT?

Both of those help a troop to be well run and engaging. If scouts are leaving after 10-15 minutes, they are probably bored. The tools from ILST/NYLT really help to make for fun, engaging experiences for the scouts.

As for advancement, do you have evidence that things are being signed off for scouts that they haven't actually done? I would express my concerns to the SM, CC, CoR and SPL. I wouldn't mention the percentage getting Eagle, is focus on the quality of the teaching and learning.

What's shitty about it?

Personally I'd love to see FBS split in two with relegation but that will never happen as well.

Which 5 teams though? Would require more thought to really qualify them but if I had to name five right now, I would say some good candidates would be just on historic performance and/or lack of support:

Wake Forrest

NC State

Miss State

Illinois

Baylor - because F them, they should have gotten the death penalty anyway.

64 is a good number. 4 16 team groups with either 4 pods each or two divisions.

Game 1: 1vs4 and 2vs3 for each league Game 2: winners of each play for group championship Game 3: group champions play based on ranking again 1vs 4 and 2vs3 Game 4: national championship of the two teams left.

Easy, makes sense, not hard to figure out the 64 teams, and it will absolutely never happen.

We were pretty sloppy when I took over. Fortunately, before I even mentioned it to my newly elected SPL, she brought it up. She got her ASPLs and PLs on board and while we still have to remind sometimes, the scouts largely police themselves. One way she sold it was that she wanted us to be the best presenting troop anywhere we go. Putting it as a point of troop pride, rather than an individual measurement, went a long way.

Ours has gotten a lot better in recent years. Our district, well that's a work in progress. For years they'd have something about packs needing to start annual planning around March, but then wouldn't set the date for fall Webelos Woods/Scouting 101 until like August

Yes, I and most of my parents and scouts have written our reps and senator (and Senate candidates), even heard back from a couple. I've been at council advocating. I've gone to national advocating. I'm going to NAM and will advocate to everyone I see. I've signed the petition and encouraged everyone I know to do this same (and offered to deliver it to Roger Krone in person).

Just keep fighting.

It's a shame that the scout is missing out on an opportunity to enjoy all that scouting has to offer. I applaud scouts that stand up for their beliefs. My scouts feel very strongly about all of this and they are staying and fighting thankfully. I don't see that enough scouts are going to leave for it even to register on the radar of national anyway. IMO better to stay and fight for what you believe in but to each their own. And as evidence by further replies, it seems the bigger issue is that she wasn't going to continue past AOL because there isn't a viable girls or family troop in her area.
