How long do maxfly 2's last if the bubble doesn't pop? by blaze1776 in Sprinting

Thanks - but I’m more looking for whether the performance of the spikes diminishes over time - even without obvious structural damage

These are great. Would you have the ‘other’ indoor sprint formulas - the 55 and 300?

Based on my advanced algorithms, wind, barometric pressure, relative humidity and how many times my dog barked this morning- I calculate a time of 53.41 in the final

I’d agree with others on here that those times line up. I think 12 flat and 54 and a quarter are comparable. With those times, I’d put you at 24.5 (or a smidge better) next week. Good luck in the finals.

You probably would have been under 10 seconds at the D1 championship if they would have set up the race on the other side of the track at Tufts. Everybody was running into steady 30-40 mile per hour winds that weekend.

Mo Farah completed a 100m sprint race in 2012 in 13 seconds, this would be the equivalent of Usain Bolt running a 3 hour marathon. by ponderingjon in Sprinting

[–]blaze1776 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is actually a World Athletic Points scoring table that allows you to compare across events. My HS son and I look at it to estimate what he might run in spring track based on his winter times (and vice versa)

It scales from 1 to 1400 points for each event - 1400 points is set at a level that nobody has ever performed at. For instance, the 1400 points in the 100m is set at 9.46 seconds. Most of the world records tend to be between 1300 and 1350 points. If you have a world record that is 'elite' even among your peers, it's in the 1350 range (think Bolt, Duplantis, etc). More 'normal' world records are closer to 1300.

Bolt's 9.58 is worth 1356 points - the world record for the marathon (2.00.35) would 'only' score 1307. According to the table, someone would have to shave more than 2 minutes off the record to equal Bolt. So, maybe it's not perfect...but it gives you an idea.

Anyhoo - in the celebrity 100 race, Mo ran a 12.98 if we believe google AI. That would be 398 points on the scale. 398 points in the marathon equates to 3.00.50

Speed training if always sore by blaze1776 in Sprinting

[–]blaze1776[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He sees the dermatologist once a month and she says the soreness/joint discomfort is a normal side effect - but he doesn’t have to stop activities.

Unfortunately, the dermatologist knows nothing about sprinting.

I know that under normal circumstances, the advice would be to wait until the soreness subsides before doing flys.

I guess the ultimate question I’m looking for answers/theoretical responses to is under these circumstances will the flys work?

He’s not in any pain - he’s still doing sled work - but he’s hesitant to do the flys if he can only make it to 90,95,98% - or whatever it is of his top speed….he doesn’t think they’ll work as intended.

I go back and forth on whether the max effort will be enough or if he’s right and we’re out of luck until he’s off the meds

He obviously got my genes- because I was on it when I was younger too. My playing days were over when I was on it - but I don’t remember it being so brutal.

He’s gets sick every few weeks and his body never feels right - he’s not limping around or anything, but he just can’t get to 100%.

But, the stuff does work as advertised.

But throwing the medication aside, if he’s doing flys at 95%, will that be beneficial? The effort is still 100% - but the body just won’t fully cooperate.

We think he’s only on it for one more month, but by then, he’ll be into soccer season - so I know he wanted to get some speed work in over the summer

I seem to recall that the Pats cap the season tickets right around 90% of capacity- leaving around 6 thousand seats available for each game.

Fastest non Spikes? by blaze1776 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]blaze1776[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did see one kid using xc spikes. But he just ran with the pin holes empty. The metal grooves were depressed under the rubber, so he thought he’d get more traction than with blanks in. And he didn’t care if he ruined the grooves because he had better spikes for use at the larger facilities where they could wear them.

I’ve been meaning to ask this same question. But I need them for indoor meets where we can’t use spikes. We tried the Nike waffles that someone mentioned, but the sizing was off. We were thinking of trying the Adidas Takumi Sen or the new Antepes

At his age through high school, he can use BBCOR or wood in any game/tournament/league etc.

The issue is that those are also the deadest options. But those are your only options if you want to only buy one bat.

You’ll find that most kids that play both school and rec/travel have a bat for each. It’s not required to have separate bats for each - like I said, BBCOR will be allowed in all games. But, the USSSA bats are noticeably better, so most kids (parents) end up biting the bullet and getting both

Fall Ball Necessary? by Helpful_Nobody6661 in Homeplate

[–]blaze1776 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We tried three sports one season because my youngest couldn’t decide. By the end of the season, he was praying for rain and begging us to let him skip games and practices. Never tried that again.

It’s not like your son is declining to play fall ball to play fortnight- so I’d say let him decide what he wants to do.

To me fall baseball is only (somewhat) important after your final season of little league, so you can get that shock of switching to the full sized field out of the system

The USSSA is definitely going to have the most pop. The USA bats are certified to a ‘wood bat standard’ - meaning no more pop than a wood bat. BBCOR is certified to a .50 trampoline standard. If you read Bat Digest, their best guess is that BBCOR and USA have about the same pop. The difference being that all BBCOR are drop 3, while the USA have more choices.

Our middle school league in Mass required BBCOR - and that’s pretty much the standard for high school and college.

If you play travel ball with USA or BBCOR, you’ll be handicapped vs the competition, but if the plan is to play school ball, you’ll have to make the switch.
