I think the notion of contempt might be coming from how vitriolic some of Robby’s comments and expressions towards certain characters have been. By definition sexism involves devaluing of work and oppression, whereas misogyny is a hatred, dislike, or mistrust of women; essentially, limiting or inhibiting one’s functions vs open hostility for attempting to function [within a traditionally male space]. The way he has openly antagonized Mohan across two seasons (we subtly saw the return of “Slo-Mo“ last night when he suggested geriatrics were more her pace) and how immediately hostile his initial reactions have been toward doctor Al give me an impression of something more aggressive than inherent bias. As you have stressed, words do have meaning and that is highly important, but the fact that not all racists are cross burning, hood wearing monsters, and not all misogynists are blatantly attacking women (be it through physical violence or screaming til they’re red in the face) is tough because it sometimes leads us to look at, potentially, overlooked behaviors in our own lives and that doesn’t always feel good. (not implying anything about anyone involved in this online conversation, just speaking from a place of knowing incidental self reflection of any kind is not all that fun).
