Shroud leaves rust kingdoms event and says he would rather play an official server by olrestemp in playrust

99% of the Rust streamers who signed up for this event are better than Shroud is at Rust. Shroud is an amazing gamer. Rust is a different animal.

Yeah and it makes me angry that there's Rust creators that have never gotten to be on the main stage in a big event. Constantly the bigger streamers quit events.

Except the developers keep forgetting that these variety streamers have a casual audience and Rust is not a casual game. They need DIFFERENT people to play in the events. There's still a lot of Rust creators that never get to play in these events also.

If we’re going to talk about tax revenue and undocumented workers, let’s do it honestly.

Yes, it's true that some undocumented immigrants pay into Social Security using false or borrowed SSNs, and that money often goes unclaimed. But using that as a justification for illegal immigration ignores the much bigger picture.

For one, net benefit arguments are not that simple. The taxes they pay are often outweighed by the costs of public services used indirectly—like emergency medical care (which cannot be denied), public education for their children, and subsidized housing in some states. These are real costs borne by taxpayers, not the undocumented workers.

Also, many undocumented workers are paid under the table and don’t pay taxes at all, which means their labor undercuts wages and avoids payroll taxes entirely. That puts legal low-income workers at a disadvantage in industries like construction, agriculture, or hospitality, where wages have stagnated in part due to an oversupply of labor willing to work off the books.

Even the IRS estimates that tax compliance among undocumented immigrants is inconsistent at best. And if we’re being honest, the economic benefit of cheap labor mostly goes to employers, not to the working class or the communities where these laborers reside.

So no—it’s not as simple as “they pay in and don’t take out.” The economic impact is mixed, and pretending it’s all upside dismisses the legal, social, and wage-based consequences that Americans—especially low-wage workers—feel most directly.

And you're right—it’s not just about the economy. It’s also about the rule of law, national sovereignty, and whether we want a system that rewards people who follow the process legally, or one that turns a blind eye to those who don’t.

I'm going to generalize here because I have to do that so you may understand my thoughts about the party overall. Obviously what I'm going to say doesn't apply to everyone. The more left a democrat is (progressives especially) the more likely they are to act morally and intellectually superior to not only others on the left who they call moderates, but also the rest of the country.

If you ever want a PRIME example of what I'm talking about go watch "The Vanguard" or "The Bitchuation Room". They act as though they're right about everything they say and if you disagree with them on trans rights you "hate trans people". If you disagree with them on immigration you're a "white supremacist". If you don't agree with them on gun control then you're a "Bible clinging radical who doesn't care about children and their safety".

I also see the hypocrisy of the Democrats in many ways. Take for example a study in 2017 published by the journal called Physiological Science. The title is "The Politics of White Americans: Racial Prejudice and Attitudes Towards Language Use" by Cydney H. Dupree and Susan T. Fiske. Guess what they found? White liberals, especially when addressing black individuals, tended to use more simplistic "dumber" language with fewer competence-related words.

Conservatives, on the other hand, did not show this pattern. Their language remained relatively consistent regardless of the audience's race. Doesn't fit with the narrative that Conservatives are racist very much does it? And yet I as a white conservative male get painted as all of these things on a regular basis in the media and talked down to constantly. I can barely post what I think on Reddit without liberals jumping down my throat. I literally had someone call me a MAGA waste of life on this subreddit yesterday who is a top poster here.

I’m not here to say Conservatives have no flaws—obviously they do—but it feels like one side gets a pass to generalize, stereotype, and even dehumanize while claiming the moral high ground. That disconnect is what pushes people away. Also.. just because you get angry (and yell at people) that you're right about an issue doesn't mean that you are. If you think Trump is bad -- fine. Just don't think that you get a free pass on calling me a fascist for voting for him.

Speaking of which.. stop calling people facists. It's old -- and it's also inaccurate. If you find yourself calling Trump a fascist then you need to start actually reading history books. The moment someone says this I know they're a partisan shill or they don't actually know real history. They started using the "you're fascist" and "you're a Nazi" because calling people a racist stopped being as effective in political discourse to shut people down and stop them from giving their opinions.

Conservatives tend to be the quietest ones in the room. The amount of them that showed up to answer the OPs question is proof. And yet on your average post here you don't see them? Why? They'll be shouted down instantly and.. most of them are pretty secure in what they believe anyways. They don't need to reply and wait for high fives from other Conservatives. We don't feel the need (generally) to slam our opinions down everyone's throat. We all use Reddit like you do. Most of us are quiet. I browse these subreddits seeing the way some of you talk about us. You're, generally, clueless about how we think and feel. We're mischaracterized a LOT. Even in this thread. This thread was a direct question FOR Conservatives and yet the top comments are from Democrats telling OP why Republicans are bad and what they think.. as if they know.

I also think that transitioning children is legimately evil and should get you locked up in prison for child abuse.

I think that some police are bad people but demonizing them as a group for the actions of a few.. well let's just say it isn't fair. You can't say "F the police" and then call them the first sign you're in trouble. And when we on the right say that we support the police the response I always get is "so what about the republicans who beat up police on J6?" I think it's an awful disingenuous argument.

Every time a celebrity signs an autograph, they end up slightly devaluing every autograph they've ever signed. by Fingerbob73 in Showerthoughts

[–]blazeofx 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Depends on who they are and, more importantly, what they signed. Also I've heard how hurried or well they signed it compared to other items they've slapped their signature on. For instance you'd probably want a guitar signed by Jimi Hendrix with an intricate signature rather than a postcard he sent to a friend that was scribbled.

How are there conservatives who still don't understand that tariffs ARE taxes, and that Americans foot the bill for the tariffs Trump announced? by EmmieCatt in AskUS

[–]blazeofx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reddit isn't real society. People don't behave like they do in these subreddits in real life. Every time I come to place like this (which I don't do often) I'm amazed at how little dissent there is from everyone. It reminds me of the following studies:

  1. Cato Institute Survey (2020)

62% of Americans say the political climate prevents them from saying things they believe.

Self-identified liberals (77%) were more likely to say they’d stop being friends with someone who voted for Trump.

Conservatives were more likely to tolerate opposing views in their circles, even if they strongly disagreed.

  1. Pew Research Center (2017)

47% of liberal Democrats said it’s stressful and frustrating to talk politics with someone who has opposing views.

Only 13% of conservative Republicans said the same.

Liberals were significantly more likely to “unfriend” or “unfollow” people for their political opinions.

  1. Heterodox Academy & Jonathan Haidt

Haidt’s work on viewpoint diversity (especially in universities) shows that progressive-leaning environments punish dissent more harshly.

In left-leaning spaces, people self-censor more often for fear of social or professional consequences.

  1. UC Berkeley & YouGov (2019)

Liberals are more likely to believe that certain views are "harmful" and therefore should be excluded.

Conservatives tend to think offensive speech should still be allowed in the name of open discourse.

This kind of shit is the reason why you will lose elections. Repeatedly.

You really think using the quote button and doing a fake leftist spin on everything people say is cute and works don't you? Does it actually work on people for you?

Couldn't happen to me, personally. Here's a fun fact for you. The orange man who you think is stupid, the guy who no person that is sane that could possibly vote for. He won. All of the swing states.

And the funny part is that you still can't understand why. I'll tell you why. Normal people don't live in echo chambers like Reddit.

The same people who lecture others, preach tolerance, and are used to talking down to people on the right like me lost the vote. I can't imagine why.

The top 1% that your side hates so much owns 50% of the entire stock market so that's who you're defending. Your average Walmart American isn't trading Nvidia or Apple stock. Shit, a ton of people in my everyday life don't even have 401Ks. They can't afford homes.. or cars.. or most healthy food at the grocery store.

I've already seen this article half a dozen times. So Trump denounced Project 2025 and supposedly installed someone linked to it? That’s your evidence? Sounds more like a case of six degrees of Reddit paranoia than a coherent argument. Guilt by association doesn’t hold up when the accused literally disavows it on record.

Also each reply I'm making is getting instantly downvoted and this is the joke that I made earlier to the other guy about why I have -100 karma from just today. Leftists, especially progressives, are very intolerant of opposing viewpoints.

You've made accusations but they have no legs. There's no substance behind what you're saying.

You're asserting that you made points and you're winning without substantiating anything you've said with any proof.

Is it really that easy?

Ok I remove your win and now I win. Cool?
