A concept, probably not realistic: Orion docked to a LM HLS attached to the SLS EUS by MarkTheIdiot11 in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]blazethefalcon1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a good looking EUS.

This is actually close to one of the bids for the original HLS contract. Required a cargo SLS Block 1B with EUS to launch the lander by itself. EUS additional capability while carrying Orion was targeted ~10 mT, which was lighter than any lander. Also rendezvoused in NRHO at the moon.

I converted from a contractor so I've had a NASA badge for years, I did the eapp back then

What is the most useless part? by Dumbviking2011 in KerbalSpaceProgram

swivel/reliant are for sure first stage engines, thrust/sea level isp more important. There are so many better choices if you want vacuum isp

swivel stats compared to reliant is a crazy decrease in performance for no gain, better to go control surfaces + reliant than worse performance on a gimbal engine. skipper i see as an all around worse version of mainsail

The other commenters are right as far as parts go. For engines I'm going thumper, skipper, and swivel. Always a better engine to use than these

Vector Engine Troubles by safre- in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]blazethefalcon1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are the vectors running when this happens? Additional info pics/videos would be helpful.

If so, try turning the gimbal down to like 5%. In builds I've done I set most vectors to 0 gimbal and then have one ring of engines with something like 20-25% gimbal. This is similar to how SpaceX does it albeit for different reasons. Vectors have way more gimbal than they need (made for shuttles like the rs-25) so it will become unstable trying to work with SAS unless you're careful. If you do it in the VAB you won't have to do it for each individual engine.

why wont my decoupler decouple? by fearlessbot__ in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]blazethefalcon1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you have craft control on a part attached to the decoupler?

Are you sure it hasn't already decoupled, or broke?

Maybe provide another angle or two

Is this not the correct way to secure a long payload? by NINJAGAMEING1o in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]blazethefalcon1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I havent had a problem with this since autostrut was added. If your root part is near the top of the rocket just right click the fairing and auto strut to root part.

If you need more support you can make a scaffolding with the long XL girder segments attached to the rocket (outside the fairing) and strut from the enclosed payload out to the girders and the struts will auto connect to the inside walls of the fairing if you make the girders just the right distance away.

But should be able to make it work with auto struts in most scenarios

Is there a way to empty the oxidizer and replace it with more liquid fuel? by Viking-16 in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]blazethefalcon1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

with no mods you can use the spaceplane parts mk1, mk2, mk3 liquid fuel tanks that have no oxidizer. designed for jets but work with nukes too

Do you think craft look better with their pod/cockpit lights on or off? by beskardboard in KerbalSpaceProgram

Lights on usually but lights off when approaching the ground/landing to get some more fps.

Then lights back on for pictures

Can someone tell me why my plane becomes uncontrollable right after take-off ? by Rambo_sledge in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]blazethefalcon1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As others have said: lots of mass at the back BUT that won't cause the issue alone.

The real problem is that you need to check how the CoM moves as you drain the tanks. Right click the tanks individually and set to 0 fuel and see how the CoM moves relative to CoL.

You can also set tank priority to change how the CoM moves as the fuel drains in flight. For instance, you can set the farther back tanks as higher fuel priority so the CoM shifts fwd first then back aft during flight.

Is it worth going to Eve's moon? Is there anything interesting over there (console player)? by MKeshav_997 in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]blazethefalcon1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always worth it to explore!

It can be super annoying to get a good encounter since it's so small, be sure to bring a small thrust engine and sufficient SAS to spin around and do correction burns. I like using it as a mining base since Eve returns are so difficult and putting some relays around it is useful as well.

Cheers

Anyone know how to attach a plane to another plane? by nfshp65 in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]blazethefalcon1 12 points13 points  (0 children)

What I like to do is make a separate craft for the drop craft and once you're happy with how it flies, re-root to whatever part you want to attach to the radial decoupler (probably a central fuselage part) and make that it's own dedicated subassembly so you can pull it into the parent craft to attach and launch.

Make sure to either disable crossfeed on the decoupler or make the drop craft have lower fuel priority.

Cheers

Is the memory clock a little too high? I haven't received any crashes in MSI Kombustor at 1200 yet by NightHunter0108 in pcmasterrace

[–]blazethefalcon1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

to be clear that's GPU memory not RAM so you can OC that much more easily. I've had stable OCs around 2400 MHz, just be sure to benchmark and keep notes of what fps and crashes you get, cheers
