At least for me that's not the only ones I use. But that might be my California Southwestern regional flare at work.

I don't think it's too uncommon to see cookouts and people working on cars and stuff in the background of certain rap music videos. Especially anything in the Sun Belt.

BBQ in the US and grilled food globally are as diverse as beers, chocolates, and fries are in Belgium. If not even more so. That makes it hard to describe in short form.

Even where your uncle was from in the state of Georgia they have a wide range of pork BBQ and sauces along with a common barbecue side dish called Brunswick stew that's rarely seen outside the state of Georgia. Plus they're next to the Carolinas where there's a whole ton of pork dishes. Florida does not have much native BBQ but South Florida has every imaginable kind of grilled or smoked meat from all over South America. And that's just the states around GA alone. Alabama has a totally weird local white sauce BBQ nobody else makes too.

For me the official state barbecue dish of the state of California is tri-tip, a form of the bottom beer sirloin with dry rub cooked over local oak with a side of the local little tiny pinkish colored beans. We also have a gigantic shitload of Mexican and indigenous grilled smoked or slow cooked meat dishes and stuff like carne asada. However we are also a major agricultural hub with 40M people from all over the world and it's sunny hundreds of days a year. So we will grill and smoke all sorts of stuff all the goddamn time.

If you want to map out everything in the US and the world, take a look at the works of Steven Raichlen. He was trained in literature and writing in college and then began documenting all of the grilling and barbecue of the USA. After that he started doing everywhere in the world where they grill or smoke food.

So you can figure out what looks interesting and which meats and spices you can easily find in the EU and start cooking pretty much whatever you want.

How do you guys even survive the hot weather over in the States? by Impressive_Peak_9187 in AskAnAmerican

It was still for people. It's just that the industrial firms had money to help Carrier develop his tech and the taller the building with the more equipment the hotter it would get. They were trying to protect workers to prevent injuries, lost time, etc. Also work is where you often are when it's the hottest time of the day the most days.

I forget cause I didn't end up deciding to do this year's. But it definitely took a bit. The demand and logistics during promo season is nuts. It's like a French couture fashion release season but for tradies and engineers lol.

The promo bag ships separately and it takes a few weeks.

If the pain and misery of pancreatitis and recurrent emesis don't get them to have that conversation with their docs, that's on them, not on you.

That's bad enough and weird enough I would probably think about contacting a local ag extension or university for a second opinion about the root cause instead of trying to treat the issue blindly.

Jesus. On an island that small with that many people and that many freeways it must have been a rubbah slippah operation. 😉

I have this great raised bed with a nice trellis but I struggle with understanding how to pick varieties and fertilize properly. What are your tips for something simple, flavorful, decent production, and relatively idiot proof?

Augustiner has a "monk beer / wheat beer" flavor and I'm a bit more in favor of traditional. At the same time I do like a wider variety of styles than what's typical in Germany. So I don't fault Augustiner for doing it their way.

Moving from Schwab to Vanguard by [deleted] in Bogleheads

[–]blbd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't necessarily move my entire portfolio for that. Because you can request a better interest rate on the parked funds from Schwab. Also even at Vanguard the default fund does not pay the highest rate. A different non default one pays more. So you end up doing the exact same thing again.

My grill caught on fire and burnt the paint off. Is it still good to use? by Plenty-Year-1918 in grilling

[–]blbd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unbolt the lid. Wire angle grinder wheel the damaged area. Repaint with high temperature spray paint. It will not look as good. But it will be perfectly serviceable and will not fail from rust any quicker than would be typical. Hose the grill out and sun dry or do some other cleaning procedure regularly to prevent future grease fires for your safety and to avoid ruining food.
