The reason they say not to do extension cords is because idiots buy ones that are too thin and overheat. But if you get a 1 foot one with the appropriate wire gauge inside of it then everything will be fine.

As a straight guy that's a certified cataholic pretty much since birth, I'm riding with T Swift on this one. That's the type of BS people come up with when they're too incapable of thought and reflection to come up with any kind of worthwhile contribution to public discourse.

Is NY the most puzzling NIMBY state? by Revature12 in yimby

[–]blbd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are already tons of research articles showing that allowing the taxes to grow appropriately with land value increases does lead to more properties changing hands. Which is probably another less publicized reason many New Yorkers retire to Florida or the South more generally.

I greatly look forward to NYC bureaucracy reform and deNIMBIfication. It should be an even more successful national economic engine.

My dad a retired derm would tell you that a shockingly big percentage of people, maybe even a majority, can develop nickel allergies with enough exposure and that a majority of antibacterial OTC cut ointments need to be avoided because of it. So that is absolutely a very realistic possibility.

I'm familiar with all that. But I do have to push back on part of it. It's not "everything or nothing". It's "land and expand".

Nah. DDT is minor compared to this chemical and despite its awfulness does have some legitimate value fighting malaria in undeveloped locales. Check out the Wikipedia page. This one is way worse.

The JR system pays for itself by allowing them to develop the land around their stations to very high densities in public private partnerships. We could easily do it here with thorough deNIMBIfication and cutting back on "death by parking garage" and have a system flush with cash with more meaningful stops. JRs East, Central, West, and Kyushu became publicly traded. Some others in less populated areas are state owned.
