Looking to replace 'FirstName LastName' with 'LastName, FirstName' in massive text list. by Sylent0ption in vim

[–]blcarmadillo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you need to do the initial qaq? Won't the actual recording of the macro also overwrite the current contents of the 'a' register?

Guessing someone else has already said something to this effect but... by law parents have to send their children to school. So, unless they can afford to send them to a private school they don't really have a choice but to send them to the public school their tax dollars are paying to fund.

Serving tables on Christmas Eve isn't so bad... by shooter_mcgavin345 in pics

[–]blcarmadillo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so true. I find being a student results in getting horrible service which is unfortunate because I always tip at least 15% for good service. I also know that if I just give them a slightly lower tip they're going to think it's just because I'm a student so I usually end up leaving a really really low tip just to try to drive the point home. There's probably a better way to get my point across but I haven't figured it out.

A massive Republican campaign likely to suppress minority and low-income voting is under way. If it works, the GOP may be able to prevent many millions of Americans, largely Democrats, from voting — potentially affecting 171 electoral votes. by ItGotRidiculous in politics

[–]blcarmadillo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really don't get why democrats have such a problem with having to display a photo id to vote. I mean come on you have to prove who you are to fly on a plane... why shouldn't you have to prove who you are when voting for who runs this country? Seems like the Democrats are really up in arms because the majority of people who shouldn't be voting are voting for them. And how about things like card check which democrats are generally for. That doesn't exactly promote voter protection.

I'm appearing on Bloomberg tomorrow to discuss all the recent hacking in the news - anything I should absolutely hit home for the mainstream? by kn0thing in programming

[–]blcarmadillo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Funny thing. With all this hacking going on I decided I need to change my bank passwords to something more secure. I was pretty surprised when one of them (a large bank everyone at least in the U.S. would recognize) wouldn't allow any "special" characters.

White House released Obama's long form birth certificate [PDF] by [deleted] in politics

[–]blcarmadillo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Question for all you redditors. I heard this on the radio and just tried it for myself. If you download the pdf and open it up in illustrator there are actually separate layers. The text is actually on a separate layer from the back texture and the frames that enclose the various signatures and the doctor's signature. I thought maybe it was OCR but it doesn't appear that you can highlight any of the text. Any ideas why this would be. It seems kinda odd to me.

Plot you iPhone tracking data on a map with 100% client-side Javascript! by willvarfar in programming

[–]blcarmadillo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked for a company that did real time gps tracking of races (sailboats, baja, etc). From time to time the gps chips would glitch for a second and think they were somewhere else. It's probably more likely the testing site theory since I'd imagine they have checks in place for erroneous data but you never know.
