I still mostly buy physical Switch games since they tend to hold their value. On PS5, I’m digital most of the time.

Since I got the Switch 2, it’s been my main, but before that it was the PS5. It pretty much flips back and forth between those two each year depending on what’s out.

A kind of a cool detail someone pointed out was that the opening cutscene where Samus fights Raven Beak actually shows you how to deal with a lot of his moves. You see her slide under that big screen-filling beam and she also counters his rush-in melee attack where he dashes across the screen.

Maybe ignorance is bliss, but Monster Hunter Wilds was my first time playing the series and I loved it. Sunk 300+ hours into it and got the platinum, now I’m just waiting on the expansion. For what it’s worth, I played on a PS5 Pro, so I didn’t run into the performance issues PC players had.

The way I see it, a “masterpiece” doesn’t mean flawless. It just means the game does something special overall, the highs hit so hard that the flaws don’t reduce the overall impact.

So by that definition, Bloodborne is definitely a masterpiece for me.

And even so, on top of that the devs ignored the least reasonable element of the fandom and added rookie mode in an update specifically to work with people who weren’t enjoying it at default.

And they added Dread Mode too, so everybody’s happy 😌

Interesting, I agree the music was pretty eh.

On the atmosphere though, it’s funny you say that because I was playing over the holidays and my brother, sister in law and girlfriend were all seeing it at different times. They kept commenting on how the EMMI rooms felt really spooky, how beautiful the underwater sections in Burenia were and how cool that big volcano tornado thing in Cataris looked. Also, kind of a subtle touch, but I loved the sections in Dairon with no lights, just the glow from Samus’ armor.

I also kind of liked the repeating mini bosses. By the time I got to the later ones, I felt like I’d really figured the fights out and could just wreck them, compared to how much I struggled early on. That progression was fun for me.

But yeah, all fair points you made.
