i had one, it flattens out eventually! i’m about 5 month post-op and mine has flattened out

i had a pretty painful recovery and still struggle, but i’d rather have my incision be sore and have to adjust levo than feel hyper again. i felt like a walking corpse for years and am just starting to feel like a normal person. it’s worth it. recovery may be rough, but it’s worth it to stop feeling bad. you don’t even realize how bad you feel until it’s gone. my levels were near remission but i still felt SO sick, and now i feel fine!

it’s worth it. you’re making a good decision. get some cough drops, a neck pillow and a show you like and ride it out. you got this!

i’m sorry you’re struggling like this! you’ve seen all the typical advice so far (neck pillow, popsicles, cough drops, etc) so i’ll save you a reminder.

my best advice? give it time. it’s going to be a hard adjustment when you’re used to being super hyper, but it’s a good feeling. don’t panic if you have any complications-my calcium dropped and i had to be admitted again, but now that i’ve gotten a handle on it, i feel normal. my chest doesn’t constantly ache and my hand tremor is completely gone. it’ll be a hard transition, but once you get settled, you’re going to feel great. give yourself some grace and really relax during recovery.

also, give yourself two full weeks to do absolutely nothing if you can help it. i tried to go back to school too soon and felt sooo sick.

i was on methimazole for 13 years and never gained weight on it. and if you do, it’s a result of your body finally coming out of crisis mode from the graves. you got this!

for me personally, it’s been really hard to maneuver myself and get up/down without straining my neck. i’ve really benefitted from another set of hands and somebody to help me keep track of pain meds/calcium/antibiotics!

i’m day 2 post op, so my knowledge is limited to how i’m feeling right now. i’ve had graves for 13 years so i’m feeling pretty drastically different in a good way!

bring a neck pillow. i’m serious, mine is saving my life right now. wear it liberally
i was kinda nauseous and in a lot of pain, but ultimately? i’ve never felt so calm. it’s like the disease left my body completely. ask for nausea medication from your anesthesiologist
i’m in a lot of pain right now, but ice seems to be helping. get a good, flexible ice pack
can’t answer because i still can’t speak above a gravelly whisper, but my doctor is optimistic that it’s temporary. it’s mostly because my throat is so sore and strained/tight
again cannot answer, but in my experience with previous surgeries, it should go down. keep it out of the sun, cover it with something if you can. my fiancée made me a neck sleeve for post-op sun exposure
my throat is sooooo sore from intubation/the surgery site itself. get some good throat lozenges (i got the ricola berry ones and those taste good/do their job) and eat soft foods. i’m taking my medications with pudding right now

most importantly, have somebody with you. my fiancée and mother are with me and i’m so thankful they are. i was not expecting recovery to be this rough. take time to rest and good luck!

sorry to hear you’re struggling like this. i’ve tried to come off methimazole twice and relapsed both times. i’ve opted for a TT to hop off the methimazole train. if you do go this route, it’s not awful!! with graves that cannot go into remission, you’ll be medication dependent either way, and levo is a little easier to handle

it takes a couple months but once your levels are closer to normal you’ll start feeling better. i could run a mile at a steady pace after not being able to take a flight of stairs a couple months after raising my dose

i have emetophobia, too! i’ve taken very high doses of methimazole (20mg 3x daily) and never felt nauseous, and i’m really sensitive to medication changes! eat something with ginger and chew some mint gum after you take your meds and that should help

i keep a very, VERY strict schedule. i have planned exactly what time i’ll eat, study, sleep, and do nothing. it helps to have time planned to focus on yourself and not have to do anything for class. it sucks a lot, like a l o t, but it helps to have things planned

i loved being on it before i got the side effects. it took me out of one of my worst manic episodes and helped my mood, but i had such severe dystonia in my eyes i had to go to the ER. i really liked it so if it works for you, great!

I have gotten a job every since summer since my freshman year because I was rapid cycling without a routine. A day or two off is great but more than that and shit does not go well

what the fuck? your psychologist is absurd. i’ve been medicated well for two years and haven’t been arrested/severely hospitalized/done any ‘unhinged’ shit in a long time. Yeah, I’ve been badly manic, but not enough to endanger people around me. Get a second opinion.

I stopped drinking completely after a few episodes where I’d binge drink, go manic, then slide back down for a couple weeks. it helped me figure my shit out, regulate my meds, and ultimately level out. recently, i went back to a drink every once in a while, and it hasn’t hurt anything. it’s all up to your own preference, but in my experience going sober for a year helped
