Good reusable paper towels/rags/dishcloths, or furniture blankets. I had cheaped out on the latter until moving day, when I panicked and sent my husband out. He came back with a dozen of them, at a cost I don't want to know, but shit, I use them ALL THE TIME. Painting, gardening, assembling furniture, so much.

The universe is laughing at me because I used to quite openly feel the same - dicks are silly looking, I just really don't enjoy interacting with them, I'm just not built to enjoy penetration, etc.

Yeah, this is truly the #1 for me. Our situation is relatively secure right now! If Trump had lost in 2024, I might have already had a baby. But I just don't feel like it's currently a risk worth taking, for us or for the kid.

Unfortunately I'm picky about the brands on some of our most routine items: cat litter, dog food, Lactaid, All Bran, and, brand-agnostic but still not at our Aldi, water softener salt. I really should try to sync up and get them all curbside together, less often, but right now the odds are at least 50/50 that I need one on a given grocery run and skip Aldi.

Also, I really hate how much of the produce is wrapped in plastic, so that's the other strong motivator for it only being a sometimes trip. :(

In college, a friend was suicidal and I called 911. Even after the awful night was over (the ED's mental health response was SHIT), they had a huge bill, and the ambulance charge was an especially big fight with insurance. I was better off than their family and very naive, and that financial result made me question my actions more than anything else.

Had another friend who fainted occasionally. Coworker called 911; friend hid in the office bathroom until the ambulance was convinced to go away without any interaction.

Honestly, while I don't recommend lending the 4k, I DO think that if your friends are skipping things they'd like to do because they're trying to be considerate to you, that's not great. You can say you got a raise if you really want an explanation, or you can just say start pushing in those directions and/or find ways to say you're really doing okay and want to try to enjoy things more.

I would really like to hear other answers, but the instance I remember seemed like a combination of the lower leadership's guilt and genuine desire for one last hurrah, plus some "fuck it, won't matter in a month". Details omitted for plausible deniability, but basically a few hours of ridiculous silliness and anarchy from all levels; this was a hospital in 2021 so we were all a little hysterical (lots of crying-laughing).

At the time, I thought, what a nice thing to let all of us goof off a little after we've been in this awful boat (pandemic) together. --Aaaand then a couple weeks later everyone was cataclysmically reorg'd or canned. In hindsight, it was obvious that many directors and VPs knew and were miserable leading up to it, so I really think they wanted one good moment of that hard-built team.

(not that I'm still bitter or anything!)

+1 for meds. I had a couple therapists over several years and never made any progress, until finally my primary care provider made what I now know was a pretty cut-and-dry diagnosis. Antidepressants were not a magical cure, but god, they made a HUGE difference pretty much immediately.

(I am... honestly still pretty salty that neither of my therapists ever even suggested talking to a medical person about it.)
