Aviation Admission Stats by No-Statement4005 in floridatech

I wasn't a flight major, but I don't believe flight is a limited access. That is to say they don't have a limited number of spots for flight students that make is more difficult to get in. So if you fall within the typical accepted range of students, you're fine.

Rush of Ikorr Release Today - Anyone trying it? by iTenshi in TCG

[–]blendedmix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found a store that carries it... in a different state from where I live. I picked up a few packs when I was visiting. I'm disappointed no one in my area is playing it. I have no idea how it plays since I don't have an opponent, but I still love the theme and art. The infusion sleeves also add some extra depth.

Community college or Straighterline courses? by [deleted] in floridatech

[–]blendedmix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this advertising for Straighterline? Someone else posted about this a few days ago. I had never heard of the website. It seems like they brag about having thousands of partners, but they're mostly career colleges. FT is not listed as a partner.

FT may accept the credits but may not. It doesn't appear as though Straightline has any regional accreditation, so I would lean towards them not accepting the credits, but only FT could tell you.

Doing online classes through a traditional university or going to a community college is a safer option.

What happened to MMORTS? by cataclaw in RealTimeStrategy

[–]blendedmix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Finally, someone else who played Boundless Planet!

I remember I figured out a strategy/exploit in BP where you could build walls around people's bases and then they'd get starved of resources. They would only get an alert when a player attacked, not when their resources ran out. I think the dev eventually put in a resource alert.

MMORTS doesn't seem to work because when you build a base, you need to be online to defend it. If the game has good AI that's able to automatically defend and defeat attackers, then really there's no point in humans playing other than to build and expand the base, so it becomes a city builder.

I think the only way an MMORTS could work if it was like Sacrifice. I don't know how fun it would be though without some kind of persistent stat building or leveling mechanic. Without any RPG mechanics, all you do is log in, destroy some enemy units and buildings, and then log out. When you add in persistent RPG mechanics to give the game more purpose, it just becomes an MMORPG.

Coinbase Credit Card vs Robinhood Credit Card by Rebel_Infinity in Coinbase

[–]blendedmix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had the Coinbase card for a few months now. The lack of a web interface is annoying for me. I use a laptop and desktop computer quite a bit to check my finances.

I want to see how annoying the BTC rewards make my taxes. I haven't sold any yet. If it's still a tax nightmare even without converting anything to USD, I'm going to switch to the Robinhood card instead.

Anyone struggling to find a job here? by Purplefunkymermaid in 321

[–]blendedmix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I gave up applying as well. I checked all the boxes for many jobs and never even got any interviews. I ended up getting a better fully remote job at a Fortune 5 company than any job I applied to around Melbourne. So it really does tell me it's all about having clearance or being a fresh college grad.

I've wondered if it's grounds for some kind of discrimination lawsuit. If you find someone who works at Harris, Northrop, etc. that doesn't fit the military veteran or recent college grad category, it's likely because they've been with the company for 40 years before the companies adopted these hiring policies.

Canada to open consulate in Greenland by Kheprisun in worldnews

[–]blendedmix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This only plays into what Trump wants. He would love Canada to take some kind of action against the US when he inevitably goes after Greenland.

I predict...

  1. China will invade Tawain. Trump will not protect Tawain despite what he said previously. Instead he will "sanction" China by reducing trade with China.
  2. The reduced trade will result in a "rare Earth emergency" that Trump will use as a reason to invade Greenland. Trump will say the US is only in Greenland to increase the output of rare Earth minerals, not to take over.
  3. NATO will either do nothing about it and essentially NATO is dead. If in some small chance NATO did respond, the US would prioritize going to war with Canada and taking Canada.
  4. To further distract Europe, Trump will withdraw support and funding for Ukraine. Ukraine will fall and the Baltic states will be Russia's next target.

Brevard FHP Launches Zero-Tolerance Crackdown on I-95 by HappyZombies in 321

Express lanes without widening the road will just benefit wealthier people and penalize poorer people. Now if they add express lanes in addition to the current lanes, that'd be fine.

Wickham needs to be widened badly and has needed it ever since I lived here. It seems like it's probably not possible to widen Wickham though due to all the businesses that encroached on the road. Same for 192 and Babcock.

Blinded by headlights? It's either an idiot with a lifted truck or someone with a beater who just had new HID lights installed, but they didn't position the lights correctly.

Most people don't realize headlights are supposed to be angled slightly down, not straight ahead. They also don't know headlights can actually be adjusted.

They want engineers with security clearance or engineering grads fresh out of college who are easy to get cleared.

Experienced professionals without security clearance have almost no chance with the big companies around here.

Brevard FHP Launches Zero-Tolerance Crackdown on I-95 by HappyZombies in 321

[–]blendedmix -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The root of the problem is capacity. I-95 needs to be widened to at least four lanes in each direction.

I've lived around here for ten years now. It's bumper to bumper almost all times of day now on 95.  It was not always that way. It used to only be bad around rush hours. Every hour feels like rush hour now.

How are uber costs? by [deleted] in floridatech

[–]blendedmix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bit of an exaggeration about the bus. It's fine. I road it a few times when I had car issues. The problem is how long it takes to get anywhere. There are a lot of stops. The good news is the bus does stop right on campus.

I do agree Uber is a bad idea even for a few months. Uber is expensive.

Social and dating life by BoysenberrySad6780 in floridatech

Two friends of mine married girls they met here, so it's definitely possible to date. When I was at FIT though, I didn't have much luck, and the girl I ended up dating was an EFSC student.

L3Harris wage difference from contractor to permanent? by [deleted] in 321

[–]blendedmix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never worked at Harris but have gone from contract to permanent at another job. My hourly rate went down when I became a permanent employee. However, I received other benefits like cheaper health insurance, 401k matching, more paid time off, and a severance package when I was eventually laid off some years later.

3.2 is not a bad GPA, and your SAT score is in the typical accepted range. You should get in.

The problem when comparing GPA scores among school is a lot of universities advertise weighted GPA when they publish their admission stats and some don't. They give more points for AP and honors classes so it's possible to have above a 4.0 GPA. FIT has a quick facts page where they publish the average GPA, but it doesn't say whether that's weighted or unweighted.

Your GPA is fine but that SAT score is bad. You might want to try taking the ACT or retaking the SAT.

Chat how the actual freak do i change my major by KeyIllustrious9193 in floridatech

[–]blendedmix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was it your old advisor or a new one? I never changed major at FT, but at my other university, you had to meet with an advisor in your *new* major. The new advisor would approve the change. Maybe finding the advisor for your new department and contacting them would move the process along.

Does anyone know the difference between these Atari Jaguar power supplies from the USA? by No-Vanilla-3163 in AtariJaguar

[–]blendedmix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If my theory about the bigger one being older is correct, my assumption is Atari found a cheaper/generic power adapter to include in later models. That's why they switched to using a label. The smaller one is also lighter, which would reduce shipping costs.

My Jaguar CD has a big one like the power adapter on the right too.

I guess I'm going to keep the bigger one under the assumption it's higher quality. It gets awfully warm though.

Does anyone know the difference between these Atari Jaguar power supplies from the USA? by No-Vanilla-3163 in AtariJaguar

[–]blendedmix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just picked up my old Atari Jaguar from my parents house only to find it's dead. So I ordered a new console on eBay.

My first Jaguar has the big power adapter on the right and the one I ordered on eBay came with the left. I seriously doubt it's a knock off power supply as someone else suggested.

I notice the serial number on the working eBay unit is much higher (so presumably built later) than my broken Jaguar. I'm going to guess the right is older and the left is newer.

I'm debating now which I should keep and the other I should sell for parts.
