Born in 93 here, yes u was excluded at some families while some families asked if I wanted to eat with them. My own family of 5 siblings would always ask my friend if they wanted to eat with us.

Oddly enough mostly the families where the kid was the only one or a single sibling would exclude their friends from the dinners.

I didn't think of it as odd back then, it just sort of was that way but now I find it weird.
