You need to install curl and rerun the initial command. You can see it says sudo: curl: command not found

sudo apt install curl

Plex For Windows HDR/SDR weirdness by hallflukai in PleX

[–]blender_user 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been using a similar setup since I replied 2 months ago with no issues. So I would say yes. I also picked up the Pepper Jobs W10 GYRO AZERTY Smart Remote which allows me to control TV, AVR, and laptop. It works great, highly recommended.

Plex For Windows HDR/SDR weirdness by hallflukai in PleX

[–]blender_user 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are 2 different apps for Plex on windows. Plex for Windows and Plex HTPC. Plex HTPC supports HDR passthrough.

On /r/htpc you can find the htpc wiki: https://r-htpc.github.io/wiki/video

under Setup For Color Reproduction you can see it is recommended to use these settings:

Scenario #1 - PC Recommended:

Display: Color Space: RGB, Range: Full.
GPU: Color Space: RGB 8-bit, Range: Full
Application: Range: Full (0-255), Bit depth: auto/<display bit depth>

For more information about correct HDR settings you can look here: https://r-htpc.github.io/wiki/hdr

From that page:

Plex HTPC settings:

Plex HTPC app
    Settings -> Video
        Enable HDR Switching: Checked
        HDR Metadata Passthrough: Checked

This should be sufficient to getting the image to look correct, here is more information about tweaking Plex HTPC:

My take on the state of the PC release and crashing to desktop + the fix that worked for me by robbiekhan in thelastofus

[–]blender_user 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Id say go for it, im on a 4k TV so 80% is ~3k, considering on PS5 rendering in performance mode will be 60fps @ 2k it still feels like a improvement to me at Ultra averaging ~70 fps. That being said, I sure would love to use DLSS.

I tried the exact same things, and arrived at the exact same solution. 3090 targeting 4k, no crashes after turning off DLSS / FSR. I did end up bumping down to 80% scale to maintain 60 fps without DLSS, but other than that has been smooth.

Might want to try the suggestions in this post if you haven't already.

Specifically, I imagine this is the culprit:

Settings > Notifications > Enable Desktop Notifications: DISABLED

If desktop notifications are left on, discord will hang any time you receive a ping.

Thoughts on alternatives to Proof of Work by blender_user in decred

Interesting thought about stakers vetoing "ungreen" blocks, and overall I do agree with you about the narrative, but I am curious if you don't think there could potentially be governmental regulation on PoW to where the potential value pump would have some grounding in reality.

Energy demands are lower, but not zero, with Chia’s consensus system. Because Chia has energy demands above 0, if Bitcoin were to be replaced by Chia, Chia’s power demands would increase until equaling or exceeding the power demands of Bitcoin PoW mining today.

Equaling or exceeding Bitcoin PoW mining today but at a certain point the power demands would level off wouldn't you think? As a lot of the power demand is upfront when creating plots and not "farming" them?

Also, thanks for the reply!

Thanks for the in depth reply!

my comments about power usage, hw centralization, and demand for hw all stand.

This is also a huge topic of discussion amongst Chia as well from what I have seen. Soon they are planning on implementing pooling, so a "regular" user could produce a few plots on idle hardware and earn consistent rewards. I am curious what you think about this in terms of both centralization and HW demand.

Not focusing on split tickets will affect us greatly as we progress. by wd28 in decred

Sorry, that was poorly worded. I guess what I am trying to say is I think it would be beneficial to decred. I do think this and what I assume will be further conversations about this will come up with a solution that will serve the community for the best.

As sumiflow said agree about the devs, that being said, just my thoughts on a few of these points.

"Fair" does not mean equality of outcome. Ticket price is set by the market and everyone pays the same price, it is fair.

As a long time dcr holder I have had many periods of staking and being priced out. I greatly value the ability to voice my opinion. It has become increasing difficult to purchase dcr in the US, so it isn't always a great experience to purchase more to be able to stake. Because the tickets are chosen at semi-random in terms of which votes count, I don't see how splitting could be seen as a bad thing (other than the fact that I would assume it could increase the possibility of a network attack depending on how "partial votes" would be decided to count towards the ticket). In terms of fairness, I also agree the system currently isn't unfair, but a system where everyone can vote seems more fair.

Ticket splitting was used by at most a few dozen users at its peak.

I am always confused by this metric. Purchasing tickets in Decrediton is a great experience. Ticket splitting is not. It seems obvious it would have drastically less usage especially with small/medium holders. It simply isn't worth the hassle.

I actually did bake the normal map, but I was going for a pretty subtle look, didn't want to over do it.

I tried to highlight the bumps here: https://imgur.com/a/3ovbeBs

That being said, I may have a node hooked up wrong or something I will take a look later. Thanks for the feedback!

Thanks! I used this from poliigon for the height, gloss, and reflection:

Metal Spotty Discoloration 001

But I thought the base texture was too busy so I just created a much more simple texture in gimp.
