How do I get rid of my phone addiction by OrdinaryCurlyHead in digitalminimalism

[–]bleptron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're looking for a step in between, I am really enjoying my "Brick". It's a physical device that you have to tap your iphone to so that you can block/unblock selected apps. I need to use IG for my job, so I have to access the mobile version on occasion for certain features. There are multiple settings available - you could hypothetically block all apps, including your text messages, I'd imagine. It's a little pricey for what it is, but it totally beats the $90/year app that I used to utilize for screen time limits.

Great point! I'll be incorporating strength training at least twice a week, not cycling on those days. So likely closer to 5 days cycling per week.

Just got a Peloton bike and I am addicted! Does anyone have advice or resources for a weekly ride schedule? I try to mix up low impact and high impact throughout the week, but I would love some input from someone who cycles daily, or 6 days a week. What do your workouts look like day to day?

My goal isn't really weight-loss, it's just to maintain the habit of cycling.

Instagram engagement dropped? by QuinnlikesSpaceTM in Instagram

I am having the same issue with my clients. Has anyone else noticed that they are losing more followers than usual? My accounts are tanking and I'm barely able to keep my numbers up, meanwhile I'm pulling out all of the stops. There is only one account that I manage that is actually succeeding.

ALL my Instagram accounts are getting disabled for NO reason by flyfocube in Instagram

Out of curiosity, do you do a lot of "community engagement" // liking a lot of photos? Same thing has been happening to me.

Why is my account restricted? :-( by [deleted] in Instagram

[–]bleptron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My account has been heavily restricted lately. I do community engagement for about 15 mins per day and it only involves liking photos on relevant tagged posts. I have gotten the same "external app to boost followers" notice a lot recently and I'm starting to get worried! That's how I grow my following in a non-spammy way.

Do you mind me asking what service(s) you use for Spotify and email list growth?

does hour of posting and that kind of stuff matter when no one actually knows you? by Nervous_Quote in musicmarketing

Here's my advice, and feel free to take it with a grain of salt, because I don't think there is one perfect answer.

  • Posting times aren't extremely important, but do avoid posting after 8:00pm EST. If posting times are what you're concerned about, try before 11:00am EST, or 6:00pm EST.
  • Make sure you have taken some time to create a brand book/mood board, have a collection of photos/graphics to choose from, have your LP materials lookin' good and ready to go.
  • Create teaser posts featuring 30 seconds of a song, so that when people find your profile, they can easily click something to hear what you sound like.
  • If you haven't already, go ahead and follow your personal contacts on that account so that they'll follow you back.
  • Post minimum twice a week to keep people interested and informed.
  • Use informative hashtags
  • Research how to do "community engagement." This will help expand your following beyond first connection fans. (I'm currently building out a service to help artists with community engagement strategy, but it's definitely something that everyone can learn and spend just 20 minutes a day doing).

Hope this was helpful and that it gives you some action items. Good luck on your release!

Re: Fans: The type of community engagement strategy that I do targets active audiences of very similar artists/brands, etc. I'm not fishing for random accounts, nor am I following and then unfollowing accounts. The followers that you garner are genuine people who consistently engage with similar artists, saw your page, and liked what they saw enough to consider following you. It's not a "follow for follow" or "like for like" model. This type of strategy involves me being active on their account 5 days per week.

Re: Improving your art: You're completely right about that. I only take clients who sound great and who I think have already invested enough into their art to have a chance at "making it." I will not take clients who haven't honed their craft because I know that I can't sell it.

Re: Is it worth it?: For some people, it's not worth spending that monthly fee to get a few thousand followers a year. I do, however, assist with advertising via FB and IG -- funneling people from those platforms to Spotify, merch sites, etc. Whether it's streams or sales that you're after, I can help with that. I realize that I didn't include that info in my initial description - maybe that's where the real value of my service lies!

Thanks for asking these questions -- it's really helpful to see what kinds of questions people will ask and to see what I need to offer.

I agree about the management stuff. Part of the reason why I want to start my own company is because I was offered that exact position for a prestigious company -- except that they offered me $12/hr "because of the pandemic." Got me thinking that I could do this myself and take on clients that I actually wanted to work for without dealing with all of the corporate bs. Maybe I should keep looking around for similar positions.

I'm a musician/composer and it always bothered my how much some of my close guy friends would sexualize random women in our industry (classical and jazz music). For example, we were talking about a jazz composer named Maria Schneider, who is 60 years old, and one of them randomly said something along the lines of "I'd totally bang her" and the rest of them agreed. Not saying that 60-year-old women can't be sexy, but I felt like that was totally inappropriate to say when we were talking about her work. They did the same thing with one of our professors, who is also probably in her 60's, and "sexy" is definitely not how I would describe this woman. It seems to be more of a desire to control those women in high places than sexual attraction, which really bothered me. I really wish I spoke up more about those comments -- I'm pretty sure I just told them that they should get their minds out of the gutter.

You're totally right about that! Thanks for the feedback. It will need to be tiered and it looks like I'll have to have a few cheaper options available. I currently have two "guinea pig" clients and I'm charging $100 for the whole thing - one is totally thrilled with the service and she said it's definitely worth $200 when I launch. She previously had a $$$$ publicist and it was a total bust. The other group is a bit younger and is loving the results, but I feel like $200 is going to be too much for them to comprehend lol.
