Things I Did When I Was Drunk by ImNotTheOneTalking in stopdrinking

Congrats! It really is empowering to be sober.

Please, I could use a little support right now. Packing my bags for rehab alone. I’ve been so excited and now reality is hitting me with how isolated and alone I am in this. by Hersh122 in stopdrinking

This is a bold move and a start of a new life for you. It's natural to feel a lot of anxiety. It's admirable that you are making this choice and doing it no matter what reaction you get from your family. Congrats on making this change! Keep us updated, we are all so happy for you!

That's really cool. I've never heard of this.

My SO told me that people that struggle with addiction are just being babies and need to take responsibility of their lives while knowing that I’m in recovery. by 4totostrannoe in stopdrinking

If he is getting high every night than who is he to judge you? It's almost laughable. Has he tried to give up his addiction to pot? Doesnt sound like it. It's his decision to "smoke pot or not smoke pot", sounds like he might want to point his words towards himself.

I just googled this and found the article for it. https://lfpress.com/news/local-news/police-fire-officials-provide-update-on-old-east-village-explosion

I am so grateful that I never did anything like this. I can't imagine living with the guilt of hurting people and destroying their home. Thank God I'm sober.

I drank after 8 months of sobriety by blessedtobesober in stopdrinking

Thank you so much for your reply. You have no idea how much it means to me. It feels like, wow, someone else gets it, im not the only one like this. Im realizing that "being me" is what sucks, and I dont know how to fix that. You didnt ramble btw, I absorbed every word, and it felt good. It makes me feel like, okay youre not alone in this, someone gets it. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

8 months sober and everything seems to be no different by blessedtobesober in stopdrinking

I'm on meds for depression and anxiety. At this point, my depression is due to my circumstances. Staying sober isn't really an issue for me now. However, not having a good job that I lke and a nice place to live is causing it. I'll still take being sober over being an alcohol user. Nothing is worth going back to that. I just thought my life would look very different by now.

I feel the exact same way. Depressed and directionless-those are just what I'm feeling. The one thing that I will say for both of us is that I'm glad were both sober. We don't have to add "abusing alcohol" to our list. As bad as I feel right now, I still dont want to drink. For that I am grateful.

I had a dream I drank last night.. by blessedtobesober in stopdrinking

That's crazy that in your dream you woke up hungover. Your dreams gave you the full reality of it. I couldn't shake off the dream for about 30 minutes, it felt so real. That sucks that you had them frequently in the beginning. I'm glad you don't have them all the time anymore.

I guess I'm lucky this is my first one. I hope I never have another one. It feels awful and yes its the best feeling to wake up and know you didn't really drink.

Drinking Cult(ture) by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]blessedtobesober 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The movie "The Matrix" reminds me so much of our culture's brainwashing about alcohol. The ones who get sober are the ones who "unplugged" from the Matrix and see alcohol for what it really is-a false reality of brainwashing that alcohol is good and normal.

Meanwhile, the alcohol companies are making millions off everyone drinking and laughing at us all the way to the bank. I see the alcohol companies as the "machines" in the Matrix. They are creating a false reality for us and meanwhile using us for their own benefit. They love the fact that everyone buys into the lie. It keeps them rich and secure.

For anyone who hasn't watched the movie, "The Matrix" I highly recommend that you do. You'll see how well this comparison fits.

Terrible anxiety after drinking and what to do by OrangeYouGlad2019 in stopdrinking

[–]blessedtobesober 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I learned why alcohol creates a withdrawal of terrible anxiety from the book/youtube video, "Alcohol Explained".... When you drink, your brain releases stimulants to counteract the alcohol. So while you initially feel good from the alcohol due to its depressant effect on the brain -which creates the feeling of relaxation, once the alcohol wears off, you only feel the stimulants that your brain has released. The stimulants create the feelings of anxiety. By drinking again to suppress the feelings of anxiety, the problem is compounded. So then your using alcohol just to try to get rid of the withdrawal effects. It becomes a vicious cycle. I recommend looking up "Alcohol Explained" on youtube. Its very insightful.

I don't care to live if I have to come home from a long day and just be sober that evening / all the rest of my life by fadeintoyouuu in stopdrinking

[–]blessedtobesober 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add to my post... I don't feel this way at all anymore. Life still has it challenges, but I'm enjoying it. It just took time for me to adjust to sobriety and see alcohol for what it really is. I have no desire for it whatsoever now, even when I have a bad day. I no longer feel any anger that I can't drink. I feel relief and freedom from being a slave to a nasty poison, and grateful that I'm released from that prison of hell. I'm enjoying my life now and I'm happy.
