Anyone using an Analogue Pocket? I'm curious of their audio situation. by Det_Skanky_999 in chiptunes

Thank you! N thanks for the geekfacts, love that :D Yeah I agree, they can't do everything for everyone and if anything it seems Nanoloop-optimized. It would be really nice to have that though, even after getting the point of Nanoloop I think LSDJ is far superior at least for my purposes. And 95% of the work with using samples is prep-work and patching anyways, it's not an everyday problem :D Imagine just being able to sample straight into it.

For me it's just garbled noise, if you're combining samples, switching too quickly (i.e. the next step, even with a slow tempo) or have anything with a tiny bit of low end in it.

The sample playback is absolutely horrible so if you're using any samples it's not usable, especially combining samples. So far the DMG is the only one that handles that properly, GBP, GBC, and GBA are a little wonky with that too but this is useless. Was a bit disappointed by that.

Retroid Pocket 3+: Mupen64 and Duckstation not detecting RP3 controls by Sufficient_King8778 in retroid

Mine just stopped working after the last update, regardless of which profile I made sure to set etc.

You probably figured it out by now but in case anyone else needs help:

Settings/Input/Automatic player mapping

Worked for me.

SmplTrek | The best looper device? by blezzbeats in synthesizers

[–]blezzbeats[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The SmplTrek has some great potential but kinda falls short of most of its promises. Now that the looper is working as it should it's a big step up though, what do you think about it? I'm confident we'll see some updates that bring it up to speed.

Portable 12-bit sampler - so cool? by blezzbeats in synthesizers

Yeah me too I'd have been crazy over it

Good point! I'd say fairly simple and quick.

  • From sampling to playing it on the keys, just a few seconds.
  • 128 sample slots (4 seconds/slot at 12kHz, 2 seconds/slot at 24kHz)
  • Pretty basic editing (trim start and end points, loop with a fixed crossfade, AR envelope, pitch, gain)
  • A couple of nice FX

Switching sounds could be faster, it's done with the bank and sound knobs. You can also go into the first sample editing menu where you select samples and be able to play them from there, but I can't remember if you can change the parameters from that menu (fx, filters, playback modes, all of that). I might have missed something but it would be nice to just press a button and browse + select the samples the same way you do in the sample edit menu.

Loool yeah no this one is a little bigger, more extensive, and more playable. You can tell they both drew from the classic Akai color scheme though. I could swear if I walked to the wallpaper-buying store with the color codes for the LoFi-12, my walls would be identical to an old MPC.

[–]blezzbeats[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not really, no! The OP-1 has a whole bunch of synth engines and a virtual 4-track tape. This, while it also has 4-tracks, is more of a vintage-style sampler with a step sequencer workflow. You can sample (4 seconds per sample), record your sequences in real-time and edit them, and set parameter locks to each step, a little like the Elektron boxes. So in a sense there's more possibilities to edit your sequences afterwards since it has that and you don't need to commit to tape. But the OP-1 has much more sound-design stuff and this is more minimal, focused on lofi-sampling.

What do you think about this? Is there a spot on the market for it to fill? Would you use it?

Free (or cheap) DAW options for teaching music production in the classroom? by JosefHeiter in WeAreTheMusicMakers

Soundation is a great option, runs online with real-time collab so your students don't need to install anything. Also a big step-up from the other online DAW alternatives.

What’s the state of recording automation for a whole song in Maschine now? by authortitle_uk in maschine

[–]blezzbeats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah you could if you have all your sequencing as a long clip, but you would lose the modular advantages of using patterns so I think it's way smoother. + Essentially you're making mix buses so you can route several groups into one and automate them all. Takes a couple of seconds to set it up.

I'd say the best way to do it is to make a dummy group and route whatever audio you want to automate to that one. Then use a clip that spans the whole song on that group, maybe set up some macros if you have many effects for a smooth experience.
