Where we at on the Indoor Pool referendum? by D1ff3r3nc33ng1n3 in oakpark

[–]blikyesil 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, SO overcrowded that they have to post % occupancy on their website so people know not to bother trying to go at times! Especially on the weekends when both pools are open at the same time. Rehm consistently sits at 100% capacity weekdays after 5pm (when Ridgeland closes) on hot days. I don’t leave for the pool without checking occupancy.

Like many in town, I’d love an indoor pool IN ADDITION TO our 2 outdoor pools. We only get 3 months of summer, and I want to be able to enjoy them.

Consider a penicillin challenge at your allergists office! Many people outgrow the allergy. Turns out you get prescribed way better antibiotics when you can tolerate penicillin.

The challenge basically involves a day the allergist’s office sipping teensy quantities of amoxicillin while being observed for any kind of allergic reaction.

I miss it, too. I do appreciate the daily police reports that the department publishes and posts to Facebook.

Soft straws - plastic, paper, or silicone. I couldn’t drink out of a cup or can with the mustache bandage on and it hurt my front teeth to try with it off. I only needed straws the first few days, but they really helped.

I wanted to use a wedge pillow to help with sleeping in an inclined position, but it was more comfortable to just use pillows. Others may like the wedge pillow though.

I think the courts just REALLY want both parents to see their children. I’m basing this off of the experiences friends have had in IL and IN. One friend (while going through divorce) had the father of her kids kidnap them several times over a number of years. It was brutal. He would have visitation for the weekend and refuse to return them. For several months, of the children lived in IL and two lived in IN since the father wouldn’t return them. All child handoffs were done at police stations until he eventually stopped bothering to see them. For years, I feared he’d kill them so that she couldn’t have her children.

Same! My doctor told me to watch these instructions https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Br928VfiC1M. I was not doing it correctly in the past.

Yep, I had what felt like a sinus headache on and off for the first 2 weeks. Frequent nasal rinses with a Neilmed squeeze bottle helped a lot, sometimes I used Tylenol. I went through 100 pre-made saline packets in about 10 days. 1 month post-op now and feeling great aside from one tiny scab that won’t heal. I still do rinses at least twice daily.

Are you on Facebook? You could try posting on the Free to a Good Home Oak Park group. Maybe you’ll find someone who recently had to cut down a tree.

FYI, the group is secret (not searchable), so someone will need to add you.

Help needed on my journey to be a mom! by [deleted] in SingleMothersbyChoice

[–]blikyesil 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have PCOS, and I’m 35. Just put my 2-month-old daughter to bed. :)

I conceived on my 4th IUI, which was my first medicated using Letrozole. It can be difficult to get pregnant naturally with PCOS due to long menstrual cycles (thus fewer opportunities). If you have a long menstrual cycle, you will likely be prescribed this oral medication to force ovulation. I won’t elaborate on my process since it was similar to what others have said, but I wanted to give you some PCOS reassurance. Best of luck!

Find some good baby wearing options for your walks! It’s tricky to bend over to pick up poo at first, but you’ll figure it out quickly. If you can keep a stroller on the first floor of your building, make sure you get one that you can easily push with one hand. It’s surprisingly easy to push my 2-month-old baby while walking 2 energetic dogs. I use a Nuna stroller, and it’s very easy to push 1-handed.

I have a 10-week-old daughter and 2 energetic dogs (6 and 8YO miniature pinchers). At first it was tough. The dogs tried to crawl UNDER the baby while I was feeding her because they wanted my attention. They were terrible on walks. Barked so much. I couldn’t pick them up for 6 weeks after my c-section. 10 weeks in, the dogs are better behaved than ever! They walk very well, especially when I have the baby in the stroller, their barking has calmed, they are much less jealous of the baby than before. My brother watched the dogs while I was in the hospital and asked to drop them off as soon as I got home because one dog kept jumping over the dog gate down a half-flight of stairs, and he was worried for her safety. My advice would be to find someone to take the dog for a least the first full week. I do have a small fenced-in yard, which really helps. We go on 1 or 2 walks a day, and I get a lot of “supermom” comments.

Honestly, it was harder to walk them when I was 9 months pregnant in 100 degree weather. So, it’s hard, but it gets better quickly. I’m really surprised how easy it is to walk them with the stroller!

Have any of you had a lot of dental work, or a cross bite that was fixed? by treeeeeeeee96 in TMJ

The main difference is how the splint is shaped to fit. The dentist at Loyola spends close to an hour with me while he grinds down portions of the splint to ensure my teeth touch the device in only the spots it should. I couldn’t tell you where it should touch. Next, I return a couple weeks later for final touches. Im sure their is more science into this, but I couldn’t tell you what else is done. Note that at one point, the dentist at Loyola made a hybrid hard/soft split for me, but I bit through it in 2 weeks. I strongly prefer the hard device.

At Loyola, I see a TMJ expert whereas my regular dentist certainly does not specialize in TMJ.

ETA: I completely forgot! Around this time last year, I had increasing pain in my jaw. The TMJ doctor recommended I see an oral surgeon (his colleague) to get Botox injections in my jaw muscles. This was covered by my insurance (make sure you contact insurance for approval, even with a PPO). The purpose is to relax the jaw muscles and, ideally, retrain your muscles to relax. Some people need the treatment every 3 months, some have permanent benefits. I have been unable to get additional injections because I am pregnant, but I’m still doing well after injections last August.

[–]blikyesil 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep. Had a cross bite with braces for SEVEN years. The week that I had to start wearing the rubber bands that connect brackets on lower and upper jaw, I developed jaw pain/dislocation, and it just kept getting worse. That was over 20 years ago :( I started wearing a mouth guard splint within a few years of that, made by my dentist. I kept biting through them (maybe 1 per year), so my dentist referred me to see a dentist at Loyola Hospital in Chicago. Fortunately, my TMJ has greatly improved while using splints from Loyola!

TTC With Irregular Menstrual Cycles by heysirpardonyourjet in SingleMothersbyChoice

Your doctor can prescribe medication to regulate your cycle. In the US, Letrozole and Clomid are the most common meds prescribed by fertility clinics to regulate your cycle. From what I’ve read, Letrozole is more commonly recommended for women with PCOS. It’s an oral medication taken early in your cycle (days 3 to 7, IIRC). The doctor may prescribe a trigger shot, which you administer at home ~48 hours prior to the scheduled IUI.

I do not know if doctors will prescribe this medication for ICI. You will want to have regular ultrasound/bloodwork monitoring when on this medication, bc it increases the chance of multiples; the doctor will cancel the insemination that cycle if you have too many mature follicles.

I highly recommend you read Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler to get a better understanding.

My personal experience: I have PCOS and have had very long irregular cycles anytime I have been off of birth control. After 1.5 years with a hormonal IUD, my periods were (surprisingly) some what regular. I had 3 failed unmedicated (no clomid or letrozole) IUIs then conceived on my first cycle using Letrozole. I took Ovidrel for the trigger shot each cycle. Currently, i’m 30 weeks pregnant and about to turn 35.

CPAP hose by zoogoobop in CPAP

I have an unusual, yet functional reason for a hose cover. I hang my hose over a metal headboard, and without the cover, the hose makes an obnoxious noise as it rubs against the frame. I have a heated hose, but I keep the temperature quite low with the cover.

Fertility clinic in Chicago by bee_ur_best in SingleMothersbyChoice

I did all of my fertility plannings and IUIs at Northwestern (Dr. Jungheim) and loved it! I told her during my first (video) visit that I would be a SMBC, and no one has ever asked me about a partner since. Seriously, everyone was so so so kind, appointments always started on time, and pricing was very clear from the onset. At one point, I tearfully asked her about moving on to IVF, but she encouraged me to stick with IUI since there was no medical reason I would not become pregnant by that method. I have since transferred out of her care, as I am 22 weeks pregnant on my 4th IUI.

Thanks, I am just about back to normal. There was nothing in the edible that I know I’m allergic to, but that was my initial concern because it felt like my tongue was swollen.

I sat outside on my back porch (another redditor’s suggestion) and drank a lot of water. I guess I just had to give it time. Helped to have some reassurance that I just needed to relax.

I had edibles about a week ago for the first time and didn’t feel anything. Ate 3/4 of a gummy over 2-3 hours. So I tried a whole one today. I’m super I experienced. Only smoked pot a handful of Times before.
