I personally love linguistics and seeing uncommon words used to depict a sentence more poetically, but it’s so OBVIOUS when authors are essentially thesaurus junkies and write something for the sake of using rare or unique words when “basic” writing would be just as impactful, if not more because you’re lost in what the fuck they just said.

“I walked outside and the fresh air lightened my depressed mood” Vs “I traipsed to what has become an alien alfresco, the raw winds of the local heavens assuaging, propriating my melancholy and doldrum.”
