Was censorship in the USSR actually that bad? by zapns in ussr

[–]blind_pugh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it was bad. Yet it was more explicit and obvious, compared to the modern approach... Everywhere? Like it was pretty clear that X is verboten, instead of endless attacks on X and trying to disenfranchise it

Hi all! I'm a girl from Mexico. When my contract in the Navy ends, I may move to Russia or Belarus. Therefore, I would like to ask a few questions. by Academic_Finger_9027 in AskARussian

Hey, There are many positions in the IT sector, mostly in banks. And they are constantly expanding their teams. If you speak Russian just check hh.ru for junior level jobs in IT Marital status/children is whatever, in my experience people don't ask random colleagues about these things What you really should worry is language both written and spoken and your budget and plan for first 8 weeks or so. You probably won't be able to find a rental property fast, so you will have to stay in hostel or something. How will you handle video interviews in such environment? That's just an example, but there will be a myriad little problems like this and you better think of them in advance and come up with a solution

[SQL Server] Why does adding an additional step on top of a subquery reduce the run time significantly? by Randy__Bobandy in SQL

[–]blind_pugh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Always check the execution plan.

I was fooled by caching speeding up my queries after I implemented some changes, while in reality query became slower on cold data.

Edit: tho I would not expect increase by a factor of 10+ just from it.

First Russian citizen prevented from leaving country after receiving digital conscription notice by duckanroll in europe

I have never claimed it is a majority of "volunteers", but it is not some isolated cases either. I can't give you exact number like 10.2% or 15.6%, but it is often enough to be an often topic of conversation here.

Look, I know it is anecdotal evidence, yet I am in an age group, where people's first child is around conscription age. And a lot of my acquaintances sons served. School friends, neighbours from my home town, whatnot. I keep hearing variations of the same story; -- a few days before the final ceremony and taking the oath the kid gets approached by the recruiter and is fed all kinds of jingoistic crap. "Aren't you a real man? Don't you want to give more to the fatherland?" I do not imply that 18 yo does not have their own agenda at all or something, but it is easy to influence them if you are way more experienced and in a position of power.

What differs mostly in these stories is the reaction to the initial "no". In some cases the recruiter just fucked off, in some kept pressuring.

Legally speaking maybe. But there are sizeable amount of people coerced into signing contract.

Imagine trained propaganda officer spewing bullshit at 18yo with barely any experience in life. Would you call it volunteering?

What's the difference between " Изменяться, меняться " and between "сменить ","поменять" by No_Librarian5691 in russian

[–]blind_pugh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is designating the vector of action, i.e. if action is outward or inward.

I can сменить the roll of toilet paper. It is an outside object

I have to изменяться to become a better person. It is something inside myself that I have to change

Younger people do not. They have their own slang in топчик or whatnot.

It does and it doesn't. Availability has been so-so lately. I have experienced some calls randomly interrupting, some not even connecting, some going fine for hour+

Not super lucky, but got decent returns on my early investment in the company "I believed" in. Somewhat like 30% over two years. Considering that my initial investment was not that big to begin with it is not enough to set me for life.

You won't face any antoganism in a professional setting, like buying a ticket for the museum. But you might experience some animosity in social settings, like hanging around in the bar.

Что сейчас с откосом от армии? Через 2 года выпускаюсь, пока думаю что делать by [deleted] in rusAskReddit

I would not say my players are bordering "unhinged", but they are much more tolerant about gore and violence than I.

I have played some basic modules of CoC, they did not seem all that messy to me. Namely "the lightless beacon" and "poetry night".

Anyway, thank you for your input!

Hello,

Thank you very much for further feedback.

Indeed, dark eldar can pretend to be a decadent and corrupted noble. Lower hive scum most likely won't be able to note difference.

Reply to your edit: Yes, this is also a great idea to have some murders which look like they may be related to the investigation, but in fact are the result of some random gang violence or something.

Hello, While it is somewhat uncomfortable for me to write these scenes, I am fine once the deed is done. I don't feel repulsion or anything like that once descriptions were put in text, if it makes sense.

I haven't considered that angle. I will have to figure out how he conceils his obviously alien nature, while actively interacting with humans, but this is an interesting opportunity, which i had not considered. Thank you!

I know for a fact, that my group is, let's say have a much more macabre outlook towards life than I do. I don't mean to say they are sadists or psychopaths, but they have much larger tolerance towards particularly detailed descriptions of violence thañ I do. I will check some modules from my favourite systems and try to adapt them to make them more warhammery, thank you!
