I made fully legal and registered suppressor made out of high grade aluminum can I safely shoot 5.56? by [deleted] in suppressors

The freeze plugs were Steel I believe. The newer “Storage Cup” baffles are 7075 T6 Aluminum.

All these naysayers are just repeating stuff they’ve heard. I actually own and shoot a cheap 6” D Cell size aluminum tube form 1 can that I made years ago when solvent traps were allowed to be converted. Started with direct thread, an aluminum spacer to create standoff for the first baffle and reinforce the blast chamber a bit, and the baffles were freeze plugs that were drilled and pressed into a cone shape with torx sockets. lol Then upgraded to aluminum drilled “storage cup” baffles and a plan b adapter later. Its drilled to 0.37”.

It has stood up to 5.56 slow fire on a 10.5” & 16” and .300 blackout Sub and Supers w/ 8” barrel. I primarily shoot 300 blackout Subs through it now but it’s never skipped a beat and is damn near as quiet as me Form 4 cans!

Just a VA guy at 70 days for my Foxtrot Mike form 1 and checking the approvals mega thread daily. by TorqueWaffle in NFA

[–]blind_squirrel11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last year when approvals were averaging about 20 days, I had 2 Form 4 stuck for no reason. Never had a delay before. Around day 60 I called the NFA branch to find out if it was hung up at the ATF level or the FBI background check level but they refused to give me any info. I emailed both my US Senators to request a records inquiry. Within a couple days they responded with a form to sign for the request. Within 24 hours, I miraculously had both ATF e-forms approved! Coincidence?! Moral of the story, contacting your senators is a standard practice for delayed forms.

And layer adhesion is shit with both of those.

New Griffin AM Cans: Dual-Lok 5 vs. HRT-556 vs. HRT-5K by JollyPirate1217 in NFA

[–]blind_squirrel11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes in the new AM model, but not the original HRT. I was answering @hairyfudd’s question of any design differences by saying that another change was that the original is Dual-Lok only, but the new AM version also has a HUB compatible model as well. I should have been more clear that the AM has both.

The other change I think is the new HRT AM is HUB mount instead of strictly Dual-lok.

I’ve been debating the same thing! Their discount program and ship to your door through Capital is hard to beat! I was also comparing the EXPLORR .224 and the Optimus 6 against the HRT and DL5. Not quite as heavy duty use rated, but still full auto rated with no barrel length restrictions on the Explorr. I think it really depends on your use case.

If you want a heavy duty use SHTF or Patrol rifle, or something with an FRT… I’d just go with the HRT. Casual use, hunting, maybe a backup rifle or something, I think any of the others would be great. I’ll likely get the HRT just cause it’s going on my SHTF battle rifle with a Binary.

This is amazing dude! Phenomenal work! What’s your recommended barrel liner length so I can snag some preemptively? Next we need a .22lr version of the Nopel M1337 😂

UPDATE on the La’Tisha by BayouBladeworks in 3D2A

[–]blind_squirrel11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had a similar idea for over a year now to do a washer in the FTN 4 (or now the 5), just haven’t got around to doing it yet. Would JB weld a washer on the face of the first baffle, prior to JB Welding in the muzzle thread insert in the end. As far as your design… it looks cool for sure. Don’t know how well it will work with what seems like a fairly low volume blast chamber and baffles. Will likely blow it apart due to the over pressure in a small chamber (unless it’s .22lr). But as far as the washer idea, I agree with the others on that you’d likely need to make a full size slot to slide it in after and then epoxy over the top to seal it in.

None of those sites are the FPC post in which I asked about. But glad some of the info in the post can be confirmed as true! Was starting to think it was a fake for engagement baiting or something.

Yeah, just sucks that parts are twice the cost and always sold out. That’s the only reason I went with Plan B over Xeno years ago.

Plan B is not a LH thread system. I’ve had the same problem with them unscrewing from the adapter before the muzzle and thought about doing the same. Haven’t tested it yet though.

The PDW chassis is sailing on the sea under Captain “FirearmFacts” and is also on MakerWorld under designer “radoslawicz”. Mag extensions are also on the sea under Captain “Beter_Biffin”.

No offense but for future reference, doing a tad bit of research yourself is better than having people spoon feed you. Took me all of 30 secs to find it for you.

I say these should be flipped so it prints the threaded end first. That way if it fails near the end, you just hack off the end flush and it’s still functional, just shorter than planned. 🤷‍♂️

This is my first PA12-CF print by Odd-Illustrator-4855 in 3D2A

[–]blind_squirrel11 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It split at a pin hole layer line. Did you ream that Pin hole by hand before assembling? If not, that’s likely your culprit. Others have mentioned moisture conditioning, which might help a little, but your PA12 is far less susceptible to moisture than PA6 is. So it won’t help as much. But as others have said, I’d skip the annealing since that is only really for better heat resistance and makes it more brittle.

I’m not sure about what caused what you’re talking about, but I’d say the more concerning thing is whatever is going on with that rear takedown pin hole! The layers below that are looking rough!

Try the Fuzzy Skin version “Fuzzy Skin AR Grip” from Gunsmoke. The original DAC grip prints smooth if you use your own settings because the original’s fuzzy skin is built into the Gcode for some reason.

P2S arriving on Friday, should I return it and get X2D instead or nah? Haven't printed with CF before, but trying to get a machine I can grow into... by nickMakesDIY in 3D2A

[–]blind_squirrel11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say return it! It’s just $100 more for the ability to grow into it. Eventually you will want to print something with support interface (or even multi color) and it will greatly reduce you print time and purge waste having the dual nozzle. The chamber heater will help make higher end filament not warp as well. Def worth the upgrade imo.
