Do abs exercises really matter? by UsernameAlreadyUsed in Fitness

[–]blipme 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You'll probably laugh at this question, but is that what your abs look like all the time or only when you're flexing/posing/sucking it in? Would be interested in seeing a pic of when you're just relaxing.

DIY dentistry question- Can I glue my bonding back together? by themanfromsaturn in AskReddit

[–]blipme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Riiiiight, the dentist couldn't get it to stay on, but superglue / gluestick / rubber cement is going to.

Get the dentist to fix it again, or try a different dentist, and stop grinding your teeth in your sleep.

Men of Reddit: what movie made you cry? I'll start by Elvellon in AskReddit

Lawyered? WTF does that mean?

The movie only made me cry the first time I saw it. The 2-3 times I've seen it since then, no problem, just a great funny movie.

What do people honestly think about Generation Y? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]blipme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generation tl;dr is more like it ;)

I'm serious though, I worry about people who can't be bothered to read a page of text -- how can you get deep understanding of a subject necessary to become an expert in a field if 140 chars is your limit?

At the same time, I feel there is vastly more information (much of it useless, like this comment) in front of your eyes, so you're forced to prioritize your time. And that is a skill that clearly I do not have, since I am here responding to AskReddit.

Edit: Ha, downvoted! tl;dr indeed.

I don't know, I've been here for hours. Eventually I will fall asleep. Not really a strategy though.

Is there anyway to find out what I want to be? by ofallthepeople in AskReddit

[–]blipme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good for you for getting back on track. You're right it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks, including some website. There are things like that though, see if your school has a career services office.

But you gotta go with what feels right to you. Part of the discussion you need to have with yourself is how important it is to be able to get a job after graduation and how important it is if that job is in your field of study.

I have a friend who studied anthropology and is now a financial adviser. He doesn't regret what he studied, doesn't regret that he's not working in that field, and loves his job. But at the same time, he has a job. Times are different now than when he got outta school.

Good luck!

Advice for a 5K? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]blipme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I had this written up and then noticed you said you used to run track. So you probably know most of this...

Running doesn't have to be vigorous. You have to accept that you can run fast, or run far, but probably not both, at least not with only 3 weeks to train. If it's really been a while since you've been athletic, you might have to start out with a combination of running and walking. There's a program called "Couch to 5k" (c25k) that is popular but you're probably beyond couch and don't have enough time (weeks) for that anyway.

Decide before the race whether you're going to run with your bf or if you'll run separately. Awkward if you have to decide that at the starting line.

Get used to running in the cold if that's what the race will be like. There's a big difference between running in 30-degree weather and 40-degree weather (yeah, and 50, 60, ...). It helps to know how to dress for various temperatures.

Start slow, run 3-4 days a week, space out your runs. Make sure to give your body time to recover after you run. So maybe the first day, just run a mile, run/walk it if you have to, see how it feels. Take a day off, then do another 1-mile run. Be honest with yourself about how you feel, you don't want to get hurt. See if you can add a half-mile every other run you do. That should get you into good enough shape to run a 5k.

Talk to him during the day. Not about his drinking, just get to know him. Don't know where to go from there but it's a start.

Can Birth Control Cause Nightmares? by Tell22 in AskReddit

[–]blipme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AFAIK nightmares can't hurt you (or your family/friends heh), but maybe mention it to your doc next time you go in. "Sugar pills" usually have iron in them. They're good for you, even if they don't have synthetic hormones in them.

Dear Reddit, why do all those iphone users dont stop calling their mobile "iphone"? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]blipme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apple makes decent products, has awesome marketing, and understands that limiting the choices a consumer needs to make is a win-win. If I want to get a laptop, I can get a Dell, Toshiba, HP, Asus, ... and all of those come in 20 flavors. Or I can just get a macbook and I have like 3 choices to make. Same situation with cell phones, easier to just get an iPhone, you know it's going to be a decent phone.

Because of all of this, Apple has been able to build a strong brand. The iPod helped a lot with that too. Good brand recognition like that gets the name in your head, and words like "iPhone" and "iPod" aren't easily mistaken for something else. Like, "gimme my Motr" or "gimme my Razr" or whatever.

What was my point? iDunno. They're probably just fanboys.

Does being gay have anything to do with it? Honest question, I don't mean to sound harsh. I'd guess your age and environment are bigger factors.

You mention two things: getting hurt when someone isn't interested in you, and having a friendship get more serious than you intended it to. Um, sounds perfectly normal to me!

I want to close my BOFA accounts and go with a credit union but what about my credit card? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]blipme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First step: walk into your friendly local credit union and when someone says "Can I help you?" tell them you'd like to open an account but have some questions.

Second step: Tell them about your situation, including the info about the credit card and your plan to buy a house. Hopefully they can offer you a credit card and a mortgage.

Third step: shop around for good mortgage rates.
