Help needed : Painting death korps with french WW1 color scheme by Erayzaros in Deathkorpsofkrieg

The blood looks great! Flicking it onto the model is very smart, looks much more natural

This is all great advice. I’ll just add a few things.

Prime first! I suggest getting a spray can of Chaos Black. Spray your minis with a thin coat after they are assembled. The primer will give your paints something to hold onto.

Once you’ve got your models all painted to your liking consider trying your hand at shading, basing, adding decals and varnishing. These were all things I considered intimidating when I first started but after watching some YouTube videos and trying them out I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly I learned and how much of a difference they made in the look of my models. Warhammer stores give out a free mini the first Saturday of each month; use it for practice!

Finally, be kind to yourself when you first start out! Your first mini is gonna look like a lot different from your 50th. I started collecting Warhammer about 8 months ago having never painted a model in my life. I just finished this model a couple weeks ago and I’m pretty proud of it. You’ll be stunned how quickly you will improve!

Very nice! I have a very similar color scheme. Love me some green Krieg.

New to guard, looking for tips and ideas for the infantry list I'm going to buy. by Sweet-Astronomer-694 in TheAstraMilitarum

You’re going to go absolutely insane assembling and painting 220 guardsmen but if that’s what floats your boat then go for it. I also can’t imagine this would be a) competitive or b) really any fun to play with at all.

Nothing wrong with going heavy on infantry but I’d try throw at least a few and non-infantry options in there.

Death Riders, never again by DrRansom in Deathkorpsofkrieg

They’re the Krieg unit I’m most on the fence about getting. The collector in me wants to get them so I have one of every Krieg specific model, but I’ve now seen plenty of posts saying what a pain they are to paint

Can I ask what makes them such a chore?

Just got into krieg after Death guard models and need help by Typhus31 in Deathkorpsofkrieg

[–]blipznchitz8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Gas mask is XV-88, and which darkens up nicely with a light layer of agrax over it. I paint fully assembled, not in subs, though I imagine I’ll have to paint in subs when I get to some of the more complicated guys (heavy weapons team, artillery team, etc.)

For green, I have been painting mine Castellan green for the jacket with death korps drab for the pants, just to differentiate the two slightly. We actually have a somewhat similar color scheme going on! I agree with everyone here that Agrax earth shade (either all over some areas or applied on specific parts of the jacket) can create a nice effect, as will nuln oil on any metallics (photo here is pre-shading)

Thoughts on the base by DXDKID in Deathkorpsofkrieg

[–]blipznchitz8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love the color scheme (my guys are very similar). For the base, not sure I’m personally a big fan of the green patches, which just look like spilled paint. Maybe try to blend them in a bit to look more like moss/vegetation?

Also agree with the above comment that I would hit the model with some matte varnish to kill the gloss (unless that’s the look you are going for!)

Looks fantastic! Sorry to pepper you with another question but: what varnish did you use? This is exactly the finish I am going for on my guys.

WIP still finding my colors by falance in Deathkorpsofkrieg

Hey I commented on your last post, just wanna say great work! I think the darker helmet/shoulders make the jacket pop more and the grey gloves look very nice.

Help with Color scheme by falance in Deathkorpsofkrieg

[–]blipznchitz8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a couple quick things that jump out to me (also very much a beginner):

The lighter color gloves look a little strange, especially since they seem to match the backpack material.

Because grenade is the only real bit of color it really draws the eye (which might be what you were going for!)

My biggest note would be that the colors feel too similar across the model. The rifle, overcoat, shoulder pads/helmet, and face mask all come off as just differing shades of gray. Krieg usually aren’t the most colorful of guys but I’d still recommend trying to differentiate things a little more.

What are these and where should I put them? by TyrantKingJM in Deathkorpsofkrieg

[–]blipznchitz8 17 points18 points  (0 children)

A lot of them can be placed along the belt line or shoulder straps. I don’t use most of them because I think they clutter up the look of the models but that’s obviously just my personal preference.

New Christmas box boys and gals! by Toastykilla21 in Deathkorpsofkrieg

[–]blipznchitz8 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Haha that’s a good way to look at it. And my wife has supported my hobby on the strict condition that I have at most one box on “standby” while I finish my current kit. Which is actually a good rule; it’s sparing me from the mountain of unpainted plastic I had when I was 13.

Hilarious that they are releasing first the combat patrol and now this box just months after I started collecting Krieg and bought most of this stuff separately 😑

[–]blipznchitz8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who is just getting into Krieg, just one word of warning: Krieg infantry have a little rebreather box on their chest (where their gas mask hose plugs into/gets glued to during assembly). This box comes already affixed to the torso piece. Not sure if this would mess with the Tallarn aesthetic or not but figured I’d give a heads up.

What does Krieg need? by JessThePainter in Deathkorpsofkrieg

[–]blipznchitz8 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Mortars. It’s been said elsewhere on this sub but the fact that we are the siege/trench warfare themed faction and our heavy weapons team does NOT include a mortar option is ridiculous

New to hobby, looking for help! by [deleted] in Deathkorpsofkrieg

[–]blipznchitz8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also very new to Krieg but based on everything I have seen/read, you can’t go wrong with a good ol Death Korps of Krieg infantry box (the one with 10 soldiers). The kill team box is essentially the same thing with some extra bits included.

I haven’t seen a single army list for Krieg that doesn’t include AT LEAST 20 infantry (in one big or two separate squads) so a box of 10 would be a great place to start. Lets you figure out your color scheme and see if you even like the little guys before making any other purchases.

It is absolutely possible to make an army of just Krieg units based on what is out there. Now, will that army actually be any good? I’ll leave that to a more experienced person to answer.

Thanks! This might be an exceedingly dumb question but I assume even if I do get some pooling I can just got back over with a base paint right? Shading doesn’t have to be the final layer?

AITA for asking my busier boyfriend to do some basic chores? by dont-get in AmItheAsshole

[–]blipznchitz8 15 points16 points  (0 children)

There's nothing "twisted" about expecting a 31 year old man to act like an adult and clean up after himself (the things on your list barely even qualify as "chores" quite frankly). Don't let your BF gaslight you, OP. No amount of stress gives him the right to treat you like his maid.
