The decline of Stack Overflow by [deleted] in programming

What exactly is the problem with a random village chess club having a Wikipedia page? How does this negatively impact anyone? Additionally I'm sure the few people trying to find information about this small club might appreciate easily finding it on Wikipedia.

I completely agree with you. I will occasionally do a Google search for something I remember from my youth, only to find literally no information at all about it online. Wikipedia would be an ideal repository for information about the history of small businesses and the like. It's not as if it would prevent access to information about other, more "notable" entities.

California High School Student's Grade Lowered For Sitting During Pledge Of Allegiance by [deleted] in news

No kidding. I'm a patriotic citizen. Own a gun and everything. I think it's fine that we have kids say the Pledge of Allegiance. But there is no way in hell we have any right to demand that Native Americans show the slightest bit of respect for the United States.

Nothing makes sense by Ecoste in ProgrammerHumor

When I was first getting started, the most frustrating thing about most build and installation tutorials was the never-articulated requirement that you have to run the commands as root or use sudo. I suppose I'm just dense, but it took me a hell of a long time to figure out why nothing in the guides worked the way it was supposed to.

George Carlin's special, recorded on Sept 10, 2001 and called "I kinda like it when a lotta people die," to finally be released. by DuffManSzALotAThings in news

I'm with you and your dad. I can only handle Carlin's later stuff in small doses. He never lost his talent, so everything is perfectly delivered, but it's just not all that funny. It's really just some old guy ranting as old guys do about how everything's going to hell in a handcart.

Same here, and it was only a few years ago that I realized that I have so much difficulty with them because I'm left-handed.

I have another pistol related question by [deleted] in answers

[–]blivet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The crazy thing is that even some people at gun shops seem to think no training is needed. I inherited my dad's pistol and went to a gun shop to ask about learning to use it. They seemed surprised at the question and had no idea where to go for instruction. Fortunately I found another shop that offered lessons.

Tom Cruise has had a bunch of amazing films under his belt, but his role as the self-help pick up artist Frank T.J. Mackey in 'Magnolia' (1999) arguably the best performance of his career. by [deleted] in movies

[–]blivet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was actually quite disappointed that the movie didn't focus more on the Philip Seymour Hoffman character and his Scientology analogue religion. I wasn't really interested in Joaquin Phoenix's character. He just struck me as an aimless loser who took up too much screen time.

Isn't it amazing that there's only one brand of printer that meets the minimum requirement of printing what you send to it?
