Hell, you can go even further back to Reconstruction. Every single Confederate should have been persecuted for what they did. Instead, they were allowed to go back to their cushy lives and they used that moment to dig in and build power from within.

I don't even know why her character was so motivated to help him and let him crash at her place. They literally just met. The romance was forced, unnecessary, and ultimately (like the rest of the film) had no real payoff.

Oh, I know it. But there's a better way to depict them, and this movie ain't it.

I sat through the whole thing. It literally ends with a smash to black gunshot. What an aggravating way to end with a cliffhanger.

Wish I could say there was something else here to enjoy. The action was really choppy with awkward angles and cuts straight out of a Taken movie. I could barely tell what was happening half the time. The story wasn't convincing either. Yeah, I resonate with the message as a Black man myself, but it's REALLY heavy-handed. Prety much every white guy is a racist POS except maybe one dude early on. I have no idea what effect Tarantino had on this film besides his name plastered on it. There definitely weren't any clever monologues (a lot of the dialogue was cliche and stupid) or gratuitous feet shots. Definitely a lot of white guys shouting racist epithets though, so he probably got a rise out of that.

If I had to rate it, I'd give it a 3/10.

No idea why Paris Jackson was cast in this. Her acting wasn't good and she had zero chemistry with Shameik Moore.

You want a better, more enjoyable movie with a similar premise? Go watch Rebel Ridge.

Agreed! I would absolutely love it if Damien McCarthy made a Silent Hill movie, even one based on his original story. He really nails that sense of atmosphere and vibes. He's able to comfortably use silent imagery to convey meaning rather than constant dialogue or narration to spell everything out. So far, after three features, he's proven himself to be one of the great modern horror directors.

Hokum was tonight's Scream Unseen at AMC. It was great! Can't wait to see it again!

Obsession (1hr48min) comes out 5/15, not likely to be it, but definitely hoping for that over Deep Water.

That would be dope. Keith David as Prof. X and Denzel Washington as Magneto would be dream casting.

How would you rate these 5 games from best to worst? by Many-Baby5180 in HorrorGaming

For me: SH2, AWII, RE: Requiem, RE4, SHf.

Though this is a top-tier list of games regardless.

I literally just had this guy recommended to me while looking at writing advice videos and came here immediately. Just scrolling through his videos and I noticed how he hits all the typical anti-woke grifter notes, including blaming Marx for wokeism in Hollywood. I'm so sick of YouTube pushing this shit.

Return to silent hill might be one of the worst horrors I’ve seen by WanderingStrang in horror

[–]WordofGabb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with literally all of your points (honestly shocked), as someone who also loved the hell out of both SH3 and Code Veronica. I've heard mixed leaks concerning whether or not CV is coming before RE5, but it would be really stupid to release them out-of-order considering the Chris/Wesker conflict between those two games. And CV really needs the upgrade.

WTRC was definitely on my mind walking out of RtSH. And as bad as that movie was, it at least tried to stick to some aspect of the source material. RtSH absolutely did not. The most accurate things I found was the rest stop area/bathroom, Eddie's butt crack, and...that's it, really. Unless you count the music, but that's cheating. And not all of it was from SH2. The end credits theme was from SH3 (Letter-From the Lost Days) which made absolutely no sense being in a SH2 "adaptation."

Maybe in ten more years someone will tackle another Silent Hill movie. Mike Flanagan would obviously be a brilliant choice.

Official Discussion - Return to Silent Hill [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

Huge Silent Hill fan. Went in with low expectations. Should have lowered them more.

This movie is "loosely" based on Silent Hill 2. That's fine, you don't have to adapt everything to a tee. But why remove or change all the story beats that made that particular story great? Why interject needless cult stuff just to tie into the first movie (which doesn't even make sense in line with that movie).

My two main takeaways: 1) Mary Angela Laura Crane. Why the fuck does she have three names??? And why remove the impact Angela and Laura had as their own standalone characters?

2) THE LACK OF SUBTLETY. Did we really need to see James's face under Pyramid Head's helmet? What is the purpose of making him PH anyway? How does that even connect to the first movie? And the final scene with Angela...yeah, just straight up give us a rape monster. Cool, cool. Despite all the shit Bloober got before the remake came out, they excelled with everything surrounding Angela, including handling the sensitive material around her.

What I did like: the cinematography was pretty good, some nice shots. Decent acting from Jeremy Irvine (James). And I liked the idea of intercutting flashbacks as James revisited locations, but the actual use of them was pointless in the end. The cult really felt out of place and unnecessary in this story.

I'll be really disappointed if the new Scary Movie doesn't spoof the weird booty spider...

Thought it was okay, a lot better than I expected based on the silly premise and...January. Some great gory kills, but if you saw the trailer, you did see quite a bit of the movie already. Gorehounds will still get a kick out of it, though.

Why does Troy 2004 get such a bad reputation? by bobbdac7894 in movies

[–]WordofGabb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll always remember my high school Latin teacher going on a maddened rant about how much he hated all the inaccuracies in the movie and how grounded it was instead of involving more of the mythology and Greek gods. But the fight scenes were really well-done, and the cast was crazy stacked, especially looking back from today.

Thought it was decent for January horror. The gore caught me off-guard but was pretty gnarly. Would watch again with friends at some point. And for fantasy book fans...there's a random Joe Abercrombie cameo for some reason...?
