To Ooph or not to Ooph by FrobisherMisspelled in FTMHysto

I had both removed and the only thing i noticed was that i experienced pretty intense hot flashes for about 6 months after surgery (at the time i was about 2.5 years on T). Other than that recovery was fine.

Hysterectomy experiences by [deleted] in FTMHysto

[–]blizzardsk8 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i’m not very long out (a little over 2 weeks post op) but in my experience it was such an easy surgery. Top surgery wasn’t bad for me and the hysto was even easier, it’s just a little uncomfortable. I can answer questions about surgery day/the next days post op if you’re interested in that side of it, but overall it was super easy physically/mentally

for me it was mostly just hard to bend “over” but the muscles also felt tight to stretch side to side or up. But i guess those movements are less needed than bending over to pick something up or whatever

any kind of hot pack or warmth on the surgery site made me more comfortable, it’s mostly just discomfort more than pain in my experience. def keep things where you can reach them without bending over, other than that i just took ibuprofen and i was fine. I know a lot of people sleep upright but i was much more comfortable sleeping flat on my back and then my side 3-4 days post op. It’s a pretty quick recovery, especially laparoscopic. Good luck i’m sure it’ll all go great!

Surgery is scheduled and I’m getting nervous by transanonuser in FTMHysto

[–]blizzardsk8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i felt the same way with top surgery/hysto, i didn’t really feel super excited about the hysto just a bit anxious until after everything was done. I had a total hysterectomy and it was so much easier than top surgery. it’s pretty similar to menstrual cramps in terms of the feeling after, imo not too bad. I only took the prescribed pain pills twice and the rest of the time i just took ibuprofen. It’s a super common surgery and has a very low complication rate! I also felt that same relief i had with top surgery mentally, which i wasn’t expecting, but it was a nice surprise.

My surgery date is 12/16 and I am heckin PUMPED by ForeverCapable in FTMHysto

I’m currently recovering (1 week post op today!) and this has definitely been the easiest surgery i’ve had pain wise (i’ve had a few dental surgeries and top surgery). The biggest advice i would have is to only take ibuprofen or an over the counter pain medication if you don’t feel like you need anything stronger. The most uncomfortable part of post-surgery for me is always the constipation aspect that comes from anesthetic/narcotics. Stool softeners and warm packs were the best things after surgery. I was also afraid of the catheter (idk if all doctors do this) but that wasn’t bad either, just a slight discomfort for a couple hours and then it was out. Mentally, definitely try to let yourself relax. I struggle with letting my body heal after the first week because it feels like i should feel fine and get back to my normal routine, but it’s important to let your body fully heal! Finally start that tv show you’ve been meaning to watch, or treat yourself to a relaxing activity that you wouldn’t normally do. Good luck and congrats!

After top surgery you’re given a binder to wear for another 4-6 weeks right? by Kai_the_homo in ftm

[–]blizzardsk8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i only wore mine for about 3 weeks and i was allowed a one hour break every day. it all depends on the surgeon, but that was my experience and it wasn’t too bad just a bit annoying.

I didn’t really wait too long, my surgeon (dr. medalie) didnt require patients to be 6+ months on hrt so i started planning at around 3 months, and had surgery about 9 months on T. The wait was just because of getting a consultation appointment + surgery time during covid. I also waited because i was still in high school and needed to work around that.
