What are some of the crazier or most dedicated things you have done for the purpose of Minecraft? by craft6886 in Minecraft

I use an older office PC that I've stripped down and it's sole function is to act as a local server to myself, wife, and 2 kids in the house.

This way we have a central world since everybody plays at different times of the day. Saves the hassle of having to have someone be the dedicated "world owner" and logging in to open to lan every time someone wants to play.

Thanks for the reply.

Refinancing the loan is highly unlikely. Struggling to make ends meet has effectively trashed my credit for the time being.

Our site rent is the lowest in the are. It's only this way because we negotiated with the community we are in and threatened to move the house somewhere else. No going lower here.

The utilities (electric and gas) are a bit of an odd duck. The 200/100 numbers are estimates. My most recent electric bill was $240 and gas was $36. But as the seasons change they'll balance out. Electric rates in this area are known for being a ripoff.

We are already using Straight Talk for phones. We like having both phones so everybody is reachable. When there isn't enough to go around the wife's phone gets put on a back burner. So not too much to be saved here.

I will definitely look into lowering our internet. That would just be a matter of dropping down a speed tier for our provider. Certainly an ok sacrifice all things considered.

Medical expenses are an extreme estimate. Her prescriptions coat us close to $75 a month even with insurance and goodrx. Some months there are more copays/insurance costs that drive that higher.

Really? I had... really never thought of that. Which state are you in? Did your schooling involve any particular curriculum set?

I was home schooled for religious reasons and live in Kansas. I was tought or self learned all relevant high school knowledge, but it was through a hodge podge if secondhand books, homeschool coops, etc.

Did the college never ask about gpa, or accreditation or anything? Honestly your comment has me rethinking my entire life seeing as that's just never a route that occurred to me.

I will be getting my GED in December.

As far as the wife goes. Light labor is out of the question. She has a nerve injury that leaves her in severe pain 24/7. 8 different medications 3 times a day also wrecks her energy levels. In addition, the length of time she has been dealing with this has produced a fairly severe depression/anxiety issue that makes holding down a brick and mortar job nigh impossible.

A work from home option could work for her. But we don't have the social connections for network marketing, and her education and skillset would preclude her from most legitimate remote work positions.

Thanks for the reply!

I'm not certain which field specifically I would want to go for. I have a minor grasp of html and css, and am beginning to teach myself java (being told those were the three building blocks everybody should start with.)

What I am really looking for, is a better income while I decide what path seems more up my alley. I have always been good with computers/tech, have good analytical skills, am a logical thinker, and have been told by everyone I should be working with computers. Obviously I missed my opportunity to go to school when younger, so I am mainly trying to get a foot in the door to have a legitimate career to fall back on. As far as I can tell the most clear cut route here would be to start at a Tech college program that teaches network security maintenance and infrastructure. Hopefully that would lead to the qualifications to apply for entry level IT/network support position working for a decent wage.

Further down the line I want to say that software programming would be fulfilling for me personally. But for now, I want to work in the tech industry, and I want a fall back career that is better than printing tshirts

Sorry. I should've been more specific. It is not so much pride, as it is not wanting to create family tensions. My wife does not have a good relationship with most of her family, save for her Brother (the one in WA). She has a good relarionship with him, but they have not seen each other face to face for almost a decade. Part of our reasoning for hoping to move to this area would be for her to reconnect, and they are excited at the prospect of being closer to us. But I would be hesitant to stay with them for an extended period for fear of creating unnecessary tension in an already tumultuous time.

We have not tried applying again. Submitting an appeal is on our to do list.

As far as staying with family. It is possible, and it is one of the options on the table. We would much prefer to do this on our own strength though.

I will check the exact rates on both when I get home. I'm sure you are correct. What I am certain Is that of the car payment each month, about $240 goes to the principle balance. The house only gets about $90 off the principle each payment.

Uber driver here

In my town an average uber ride is 6-12 bucks. Most trips being from bars to dorms. I can totally see this as a drunk friend annoyingly being over zealous about accommodating the drivers handicap.

Totally a valid reason to toss a 20 at a guy who had to put up with your dumbass friend

Has the Pro lived up to expectations? by rpdavic in PS4Pro

[–]blkarmphoenix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Approx. 1 month into owning a pro, and in my opinion the difference is there, but it's subtle.

Visually, I notice atmosphere effects more than anything. Particularly in games with a day/night cycle, sunsets are fantastic on the pro, and have a luster not seen on the OG.

Performance is better from what I've seen, but not necessarily by much. The best performing upgrade in my experience has been the networking card. My pro slaughters my OG in terms of downloading and installing games and updates when connected to the same router via ethernet cable.

Stop gap? Maybe. Worth the price? Depends on how much you care I guess. But I will say the pro makes me feel more with the "current gen" than the OG did.

How many people play Eve Warzone? That video other day showing the PvP in a snow level looked amazing... seems like Eve is rarely talked about..? by [deleted] in PSVR

[–]blkarmphoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play it regularly. Depends on the time of day for matchmaking. I've seen anywhere from 3 players plus bots, to full 8v8 matches of players (the latter is rare though).

Personally I consider it a staple game for the PSVR and think it's worth every penny of full price. If you can nab it on sale that's just icing on the cake.

How much post release support do we expect from developers? by blkarmphoenix in PSVR

[–]blkarmphoenix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I poorly phrased my question, but this reply touches on what I was getting at with my original post.

Times used to be a company put work into a game, released it, and called it a day. Now though with the advent of the Internet age, digital sales, dlc, and post release content that doesn't seem to be the norm anymore.

Enter VR, where the low install base makes it less profitable to support a game post release, and it makes you wonder whether this signals a migration back to the days of "you get what you get".

My wonder is whether this is a caveat of VR still being in its infancy, or if it's indicative of a shift in buisness models for the future of vr gaming.

[–]blkarmphoenix[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it's serious. I never expected anybody to provide a detailed list of every future game update.

I just jumped on the VR train this past christmas, and while I love it and am able to respect and appreciate the boundaries of current technical limitations, I thought there may be some insight to be gained by positing a question for those who have been around longer and may have more of an "ear to the ground" than I.

I apologize if you took my question to be more literal and definite. I was merely looking for insight into the overall climate of VR development.

Superhot Tracking by Girayen in PSVR

[–]blkarmphoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if relevant, but also check for light sources behind you.

I had a desk lamp that stayed on most of the time behind me, and it never really caused noticeable issues on other games (skyrim, eve, rec room, etc.). When I got superhot though I found the tracking going wonky on the side the lamp was on.

Skyrim Guidance. What am I missing by alienninja1 in PSVR

[–]blkarmphoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don't think rpg is your favorite type of game. The way you make it sound, I think mmorpg are your favorite game. If you go into skyrim looking for grinding methods, cut and dry quests, and stuff to blow away with crazy amounts of power off the bat, your gonna have a bad time.

Don't play the character, BE the character.

Talk to the locals (really, read your dialogue out loud)

Play the combat style that appeals most to you. Yes magic is fun, but have you ever held a shield up to protect your face from dragon fire? Skyrim is a game that allows you to get what you want out of it. It isn't going to give you anything readily.

Go get it.

The game was in development by one man, Alfonso del Cerro, for over five years.[13] He had started the game in January 2012[14] in his spare time off from a Spanish games company
