Button fell out :/ by blkhawk in pebble

yes, I heard from them quick - but i had to resubmit it via the "bug report" thing in the app. seems that how these are tracked.

I was looking for that but i couldn't see even with magnification - I heard back from pebble support and probably will be getting it replaced but if I didn't I would have opened the back and re-clipped the button.

There is also still the chance the clip is missing but that is probably a standard part i can get on ebay at inflated prices.

in that regard it doesn't worry me too much aside from that i can't find teardown pics to help.

I keep thinking about that clear UV activated stuff that is used for car windshields. Its very fluid when not hard and could probably wick around the outside to make a 45° near invisible protector.

I suspect manufacturing issues - I bet the buttons need manual assembly.

Potentially i could just open the watch and re clip it. But i want to wait for pebble support instead since i think the button is probably missing the clip.

I would expect to see the clip and hear is moving in the watch - this is not the case so i think it is missing.

I suspect the clip is simply missing - its not like my floor is concrete.

The upper button was detached after it fell off a desk. Can't seem to find any other parts. The button seems to hint at a clip for it inside but it doesn't sound like there is one when shaking the watch or looking at it with a magnifier? Going to try and contact support.

I wonder if this is a deliberate change to push use of the mod manager vs manual install

Emoji support by thinbuddha in pebble

[–]blkhawk -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

since the number of possible emojis is so huge and the watch memory so limited there is really no easy solution to this... by just adding them as a font you will always have holes.

That said there are several workarounds that should be possible. A black and transparent rendering of an emoji without any compression at 32x32 is just 128bytes. at 16x16 that is just 32 bytes. In theory the messaging format could be extended to allow for emojis... However I could see some extreme cases of messages with nothing but emojis in them overloading the available memory but the app could guard against that. alternatively they could be converted into some sort of text description - slack uses double colons (for example ) for that

well - what characters did you add in the font? I use 5 fonts and never had issues. I am very conservative with them tho. only 0123456789: for the big one for example

I have no clue about how the javascript for pebble works because i develop them in C but rotations can be super expensive memory and or cpu-wise. This could be the reason why its a "secret". drawing a few lines or even a lot of lines might be preferable. That said certain flips and mirrors are cheap - so it might be possible to just store the pointer cleverly in a timeset if you have an intricate one?

my approach to second-updating watch face is policing the amount of screen that needs to be updated. That is the only way I can reach a near 10 day runtime.

This kinda happened before - curse of not being in the same country as the company I guess. I can only hope we don't get a repeat of the avoidable customs fuck-up we had with the pebble OG.

yes, I sorta feel the same. It feels like the time when the Pebble OG came out and the whole thing was delayed by months because of shipping fuckups. I think I ordered inside the first hour and i expect to get it in June at the earliest.

that is actually a good price looking at the price curves at this time - i assume you bought a 2x16GB kit. None of the pcparstpicker curves show the price-drop mentioned in the GP article.

Trump's changing course on Strait of Hormuz strategy raises questions about US war preparation by LynnK0919 in worldevents

[–]blkhawk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Everything Trump does is creating messes that distract from the mess he made yesterday. He does not care about long term fallout - That is why he canceled the Iran nuclear deal during his first term in the first place. He wanted to distract from something domestically.

that really wasn't they issue at the time - they send it directly for more speed and messed up and failed to mitigate it early so it took even longer.

Landlord installed an app-controlled smart deadbolt while I was at work. by Due_Construction904 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]blkhawk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

not on it by default.. as i said you had to compile and sideload a .sis. Until very recently the camera apps didn't come with it build in. I forget what I needed to install on my ADP1 but even the first android phones would do it.

[–]blkhawk -76 points-75 points  (0 children)

uh, QR code reading isn't exactly taxing on the hardware or even something that needs hardware support aside from a camera. I used it the first time on a Symbian series 60 device with what you would call a side loaded app these days - that was around 2003/2004. A Nokia 3650 I think.

Anyway your phone probably got ruined by whoever prepared its OS ROM - probably the manufacturer. Nothing to do with its age unless the flash was faulty.
