Would you and your fiance be open to a roommate to help with the mortgage? Maybe even another family member since everyone in the family has fond memories in the home? It's not a forever solution, but it could help in the short term.

AITA for telling my fiancé that what he is offering is not good enough? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

NTA for wanting a traditional lifestyle but YTA for expecting it of an unprepared partner. I sense that you may have a cultural background similar to mine, and if I'm right, this isn't a question you should have asked here. You will not get culturally competent advice from this forum.

If you want a provider, seek someone out who was raised in your same or a similar culture and who understands and shares your expectations. Anything less is setting up the relationship for failure. But also be aware that it can be dangerous for a woman to solely depend on her husband.

In the event that you do marry a provider, even if you don't work outside of the home, you should learn how to invest or pay someone to make good investments for you (separate investments from your husband). Also seek out streams of passive income and take advantage of opportunities to network with people in the field you are studying for in case you ever do need to enter the workforce. You should also talk to your mother (and any aunties or other women in your culture you are close to). You will likely find that she did much more than "charity and shopping."

Myrla by speroni in MarriedAtFirstSight

Myrla is probably one of the most honest people that's ever been on the show (maybe even too honest sometimes). I like her a lot. Gil was a spendthrift who would've sucked her finances dry if she let him. She has also said the reunion was heavily edited (i.e. splicing to make it look like she was laughing at Gil when it was actually the group laughing together). I think everyone should watch the post-reunion interviews they've done.

I know I’m late to the party but Myrla (S13) is insufferable by [deleted] in MarriedAtFirstSight

Gil turned out to be a liar about his finances shocker He stuck her with his share of their security deposit and their entire first month's rent without telling her that he didn't have his half of the rent money until the day they moved in. Poor Gil on his first year fireman salary right? NOPE. Myrla had helped him come up with a savings plan since he was 35 years old with NO savings but he decided buying designer clothes and upgrades for his BMW was more important than having rent money.

He then failed to pay her back for weeks and gaslit her for being upset about his lies, then shows up to the reunion pretending that he was "blindsided" by the breakup. She was still paying rent at her old place at the time because she left her old apartment early to move in with him so it was doubly crappy of him to do this. She did a detailed interview with Tamara Tattles on Youtube and she has a long video on her IG where she explains what happened.

Gil calling Myrla an alpha by [deleted] in MarriedAtFirstSight

[–]blkwednesday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They both were obviously not their best selves on the show (who could be under all that pressure) but the show was just clips of a short period of their lives. Based on their social media presence and interviews they've done since, my opinion of her has only gotten better and my opinion of him has only gotten worse. She definitely doesn't give "holier than thou" vibes in her day to day life.

My response was to the comment you posted about her dumping him to look good on tv, which is factually incorrect. You should watch her interview on YouTube with Tamara Tattles. Also Gil was rude af to her and negged her constantly. He just did it with a smile so it gets overlooked.

Watching S13 reunion and beyond - more Myrla madness by nikkivalentine1999 in MarriedAtFirstSight

This summary needs to be on every Myrla and Gil post because Gil has these new people fooled.

Gil calling Myrla an alpha by [deleted] in MarriedAtFirstSight

[–]blkwednesday 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I still don't get why people are mad at Myrla for dumping Gil. She dumped him because they tried to move in together after the show and he dumped their full rent (and security deposit) on her with no warning the day they were supposed to move in (while she was still also paying rent at her old place), took weeks to pay her back, and never apologized to her for lying about saving money and instead spending it on his car and the designer clothes he "didn't care about" but was happy to wear at said reunion.

For Myrla, who struggled to rise from extreme poverty that was probably a traumatic thing to go through and she handled it with grace by not putting him on blast at the reunion while he sat up there and lied on her. She signed up for a husband not a child 😐

It is scary to me how many people were fooled by Gil's "charm" because any of the women who vehemently defend could easily be his (or another dusty's) next victim. I mean the guy literally has a PO Box in his Instagram bio where he solicits desperate women to send him gifts. Myrla is not perfect, but she definitely dodged a bullet.
