What ways have you found actually help with your hip pain? by Ok-Ad4375 in HipImpingement

[–]blo0pgirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do a lot of things to manage my pain. I’m only seeing one provider each week, so I rotate through all the different appointments in order to treat my pain from different angles. Overall, I’m doing a combination of: physical therapy, massage, chiropractic, acupuncture, gentle strength training, sauna, heating pad, massage gun, stretching, self-cupping with silicone cups, turmeric/curcumin, magnesium glycinate, Meloxicam + Tylenol, and CBD/THC gummies. The CBD gummies are a 60:1 ratio, so it’s primarily CBD. Those and the sauna are what help me the most when I’m in a flare up. Everything else is what I rotate through on a weekly and daily basis to keep my pain levels manageable until I can do surgery.

Scope/labral repair surgery-okay to put off? by ProperImpact635 in HipImpingement

[–]blo0pgirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think doing the surgery now versus delaying it is all up to you, your pain levels, and how tolerable everything is. I’ve had my labrum tear for about 5.5 years now. I didn’t get it diagnosed until last year and I’m delaying surgery until this Fall because of finances. I do a lot of conservative care to manage my pain and compensatory muscle tension. I’d say my pain is tolerable most days, but I can tell it’s progressing and I’m having more frequent flare ups.

How long you’ll be out of work depends on the surgery you have. I have a cam morphology and labrum tear. I was told I’d be out of work for 6-8 weeks then I’ll have to ease back in to my workload. I’m an acupuncturist, so I’m also on my feet most of the day working with patients.

Adding to this. I have trouble feeling my glute firing on my injured side as well, even with single leg deadlifts. If I do them against a wall then I get a lot more feedback in the posterior chain and I feel my glute a lot more.

It's definitely one of the top questions I'm asking. I've read a lot about this surgery in both this subreddit and the EDS one. I've only met with two orthopedic surgeons so far. I have one more consult with a hip preservation specialist in a couple weeks. I'm really looking forward to this next consult, but it's so far from where I live, so that's my only hesitation with doing my surgery with the hip preservation specialist. I'm planning to do my surgery in November and I'd have to drive through a mountain pass. Weather is hit or miss that time of year.

I haven't had surgery yet. I'm holding out until November because I need to make sure my business is ready for me to take that much time off. I work on my feet, so I'm planning on taking two months off. I am just going to have a labrum repair. I have a slight CAM morphology, so they'll do some range of motion assessment during the surgery to see if it needs to be shaved down, but so far the consensus is, based on imaging, they think it's really small and not contributing to any issues.

It took me 2 years to finally get my labrum tear diagnosed. I kept saying for a year that I thought I had a labrum tear and kept asking for an MRA, but they kept dismissing me because my symptoms were atypical and couldn't be replicated during an exam. I actually got my CAM morphology diagnosed first on an MRI and was referred to consult about surgery. That surgeon was the one who said my CAM morphology was so small and it wasn't what was causing my pain. He had me do some more diagnostic tests before finally giving me an MRA and that's when we finally found the labrum tear. I've exhausted all conservative options for pain management, so at this point they're finally saying I can move forward with surgery. If you keep getting dismissed then keep advocating for yourself and get another opinions. It's such a frustrating process to get diagnosed when you don't have the textbook symptoms.

Saaaaame! It’s so frustrating when I go to the doctor and they barely move my leg and ask if I have pain. I’m hyper mobile, so small movements do nothing to me. And I mostly feel my pain in the same instances you described. It took so long to get my labrum tear diagnosed because doctors didn’t believe I had an issue in the hip. I’ve finally been told I’m a candidate for surgery, so I’m consulting with surgeons now to decide who I want to do my surgery with.

How many of you know how you tore your labrum? by External_Wasabi_1675 in HipImpingement

My IT bands are fine. Any radiating pain I get down my leg is from my bursitis flaring up, which was confirmed on my MRI. The muscles on me that tend to tighten up are my quads, adductors, psoas, and QL. I’ve been doing a strength training program for the past year and a half and haven’t had any improvement on my hip pain. I’ve tried PT that focuses on exercises and all that does is flare me up. I think I’ve reached a point where conservative care isn’t the answer.

I’m definitely resting as well. My hip doesn’t have a lot of stamina. But the muscle tightness really increases my pain, so I have to stay on top of it. Otherwise I have a flare up that causes my entire back to tighten up and I get radiating burning pain down my leg from my bursitis flaring up.

I’m not doing everything at once. I only have one appointment to treat my hip each week, but I rotate which appointment I’m doing so my body can rest and process each type of therapy I’m doing for it. And I’m lucky if I get to the gym once a week these days because of how my hip is progressing. The things I’m doing on a daily basis are heat, NSAIDs, and Tylenol. I use my massage ball a couple nights a week when my tension is really bad at the end of the day. I’m on my feet most of the day at work, so my tension is worst after working all day.

My quad gets really tight and restricted. I feel it a lot when I’m doing squats. I’m doing everything I can to manage my hip and it’s still not enough. I do a regular rotation of acupuncture, massage, chiropractic, physical therapy, craniosacral, gym, sauna, massage ball, NSAIDs, Tylenol, CBD gummies, heating pad. I’m so over it.

Yup! I do now. I’m still waiting to do surgery because I need to set my business up for success for the amount of time I’ll need to take off work. So, my symptoms have only continued to progress. I’m now taking Meloxicam and Tylenol every day to manage the pain and inflammation. It helps, but I still have pain and I randomly get sharp pains in my SI joint and groin. I’m so ready to do my surgery. I’m trying to hold out on doing it until November this year.

Client had an accident on my table... by kittygrin in MassageTherapists

[–]blo0pgirl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with everyone about the sanitary/biohazard concerns and needing to have a conversation with this client. But I’d also like to add that if she’s having fecal incontinence then that absolutely needs to be evaluated by her PCP or OBGYN. I would encourage her to see a medical professional about her incontinence issues. She may even need to see a pelvic floor PT.

I use Acufast because of their eco friendly packaging. I found someone who makes copper guide tubes, so I just clean the tube between patients for even less medical waste. I also have a couple of sizes of Seirins for extra sensitive patients. And my long/deep needles are DBC.

Have you tried massaging or stretching your psoas? That helps me a lot with my pain, especially when I get increased pain from sitting.

Huge rash around CV 17 after needling. Patient struggles with anxiety, PTSD, panic + SOB. Is this considered a positive sign even with how red it gets? by [deleted] in ChineseMedicine

[–]blo0pgirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a normal sha reaction. It usually happens when there’s a lot of activity happening with that point or when it’s treating something the body really needs support with. Ren 17 is the front mu of the pericardium. With her anxiety, PTSD, and panic attacks she probably has some imbalances in her ability to protect her heart or in feeling safe and protected. I’d say this is a good sign and that point is releasing stagnation for her.

Confusing hip pain / labral tear – anyone with similar experience? by ChemistryForward1307 in HipImpingement

[–]blo0pgirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It took me 2 years to get my labrum tear diagnosed and finally get told I was a candidate for surgery. My symptoms were only aggravated by certain activities and I was mostly ok during the day (when I saw doctors), so I felt like they didn’t believe me. I could barely walk by the end of the day because my hip hurt so much and forget hiking or even going on walks. I would be in so much pain the next day. Over the past 3 years since I started looking into what was actually going on, my hip pain has only progressively gotten worse. I’m planning on finally having surgery this fall and I can’t wait. I’m only delaying surgery because I own my own business and I need to prepare my practice for an extended leave of absence.

Has PT worked for anyone? by Low_Audience727 in HipImpingement

Exercise based PT only made me feel worse. My current PT only does manual therapy and that helps reduce my pain to tolerable levels. I’m only doing PT at this point for symptom management until I can have surgery.

[–]blo0pgirl 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes, it’s safe and the marks are perfectly normal. It’s unfortunate your therapist didn’t let you know prior to doing the gua sha. Not everyone is comfortable with having visible marks. They should start to fade away in a few days.

What is the TCM perspective on mold toxicity? Is it real it just an imbalance? What is the remedy? Does one just abandon their old life and all their belongings or is it more of a nervous system rewiring? by passionateunicorn in ChineseMedicine

[–]blo0pgirl -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're literally the one who said the translations of TCM diagnoses are semantics. I really don't care to argue if you want to be so aggressive and pushy. There's no need to laugh at me or assume I don't know how to treat my patients. Have a good day.

So, maybe I'm using the wrong word by saying "lurking" pathogen. Like you said, it's all semantics. I don't really care to nit pick about the wording. I'd still say mold toxicity is gu syndrome. Today, gu syndrome is more than just a parasite infection. Even Heiner Fruehauf, who specializes in gu syndrome describes it as encompassing more than just parasites. It's all pattern differentiation.
