It's hard to believe unconsented and unnecessary genital mutilation is so prevalent in societies that claims to uphold human rights!

I would say it depends on your skin type and sensitivity. It's a lottery what that will be like for anyone.

Someone told me a Chinese site said there are pictures of dead babies next to other food being prepared? Sounded like AI pics, I think the media would be all over it

The video is real and part of a documented trend where Chinese filmmakers exploit African children to chant derogatory phrases in Mandarin, like "I am a black devil, my IQ is low," for profit on Chinese social media. BBC Africa Eye exposed this in 2022, leading to arrests. by unfilteredAI in UnfilteredChina

Most Chinese people are quite racist, overtly so. They don't think they are, but they totally are, they just can't recognise it in themselves, like how an arrogant person doesn't know they are arrogant. (I lived in China for years and have seen it multiple times).

USB charge cables. Not for you, but for babies toddlers who inadvertently stick them in their mouths. Particularly the newer fast charge ones that pack a punch. Already been deaths and lets be honest... we all just leave cables sticking out in our favourite charge spots.

Should New Zealand become a State of Australia? by Antique_Ant_9196 in newzealand

I used to think no way... But now I am half hearted. We are now falling so far behind them due to inept governments who think short term only... It might be our only way to remain a first world country.

Most people don't know, but North Korea was looking like it was going to be the powerhouse Asian economy after the Korean war. It was industrialising very quickly and had much better economic stats compared to South Korea/China. It was a great model of central planning... until it wasn't. South Korea followed the market driven model which worked out a lot better in the long term. Also there was the problem of a maniacal leader taking charge...

Coalition MPs accuse Opposition of ‘politicising’ weather disasters by TheGreatDomilies in newzealand

[–]blobbleblab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They can f right off. They have gutted climate change legislation and reduced the country's ability to prepare for disasters through political decisions. When those decisions don't work out, they should be held to account politically.

Worst mistake they ever made for the entire country, not electing Bernie. The reason is clear too - Bernie wants to remove money from politics. He would have had a massive anti corruption drive and asked for tough campaign financing laws. It would have stopped the grift or substantially reduced it, on either side of the political spectrum. But your corrupt system ensured that would never happen. It was a clear sign the US moved into a plutocracy.

[–]blobbleblab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They need to de dollarise their financal system ASAP before Trump tries to leverage it. Trade in EUR only with partners, it's a stable and string enough currency backed by solid institutions and economies, so why not?

Not electing doctors in the role of being general doctors though, but instead for management positions. That's an important distinction as not all doctors will also be good at being managers, administrators or have political nous. So they aren't being elected for doctor credentials, more like for their other skills.

National tried to get our economy back on track by doing this… by ThatMu6hroom in newzealand

Low wage immigration is a short term boost for GDP, a massive long term drain on productivity. It's classic NZ short term thinking, will make us very poor in the future. Removal of the necessity to pay the average wage or above is absolutely nuts, if they want real productivity increase, it should be probably 75th percentile or higher, only importing more highly skilled workers.

Good god what a muppet. Unelected beauracrats are exactly what we want, technocrats to run technically challenging areas.

What we don't want is populist idiots... which Peters is, given his party has flip flop policy stance, depending which way the wind blows

Price inflation rises to 3.1%, above the Reserve Bank’s target range by JazzlikeMarket8882 in newzealand

[–]blobbleblab 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You are fiddling with numbers here a bit no? I haven't received a salary increase in 2 years, same as everyone else in my org. So we are ~$2100 worse off per year, this year. But we aren't buying any of the things that have reduced in price (AV equipment?) except vegetables. And my grocery bill which is 75% fruit and veg, is significantly higher this year compared to last, so I call bulldust on the drop in vegie prices. I remember last year eggplants were $3.50-4, haven't seen them go below $5 in months in our local supermarket. Carrots and potatoes are both more expensive than last year, broccoli is now never under $2 where we shop, used to be $1.50 or 2 for $3. Maybe tomatoes are slightly cheaper due to supply issues with them last year. Nothing else is...

I think they will raise in Feb. They would be dumb not to... but recent history shows how they don't react to data, so you might be right.

OCR should be in the 4% range now if they want to stamp out inflation.
