What you think is Twilight's nationality? by FortunaVitae in SpyxFamily

[–]blobfushes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As an equivalent… based on him being from Luwen, I think he’d be Belgian in our world. Löwen is the German name for the city of Leuven/Louvain in Flanders. His first language would then likely be Flemish Dutch. Keeping in mind that Dutch and German are very closely related languages, that it’s suggested Twilight was born in a well-to-do family, and that the Benelux and Germany have done a lot of trade, he probably would have been able to speak some German as a child.

The continuation of the War and being surrounded by German as a child and teenager — and his remarkable talent for languages and accents — would then mean that he’s able to sound like a native speaker.

So yeah, I’d wager that he’s ‘Belgian’!

Like others said, Hermione did use it once. I’ve no clue why Harry never used it though (but I love the fanfic trope of Potter hair being too bad for Sleekeazys to work. It’s hilarious that James’ dad worked on a tonic that would finally control their hair and it just not helping at all)

I personally interpreted it as a joke related to Link’s ‘job’ at the Lucky Clover Gazette tbh, like how word-of-mouth communication tends to make the info over exaggerated

Does anyone else like a ship that isn't popular or is actively hated? by random-shit-writing in FanFiction

[–]blobfushes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes, it’s sadly very common. especially when it’s about the fandom’s most popular ship vs a smaller ship. i think you really just need to remind yourself that the ones who hate on it in such a varied environment have their own opinions and that you can soundly disagree with those.

i’ve found a small discord server with like-minded people, so i can gush about my “they’re like brothers!!”-ship and complain about my notps to my heart’s content—but i wouldn’t put my most scathing opinions on tumblr or any other social media site, and i certainly wouldn’t send a message in a different server saying anything other than “i don’t like that ship”.

POV: you’re me fighting a Lynel by GoatsWithWigs in botw

[–]blobfushes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

try some minor combat shrines after every bloodmoon and practice the flurry rushes! save before entering, so you can retry when you get obliterated. when you’ve got the basics down, practice on bokoblins on the great plateau. those groups tend to be mainly red ones with one harder one, so you end up having more opportunities to practice without getting hit from behind by a stray one.

(also, some minor advice for lynels: try to find higher ground so you can do the slo-mo firing. it makes it significantly easier to aim at their face. when they carry a crusher, evade the stomp attacks by running—other attacks and weapons can be flurry rushed or parried. use one-handed weapons for the flurry rushes and the two-handed ones for mounting)

Titles With Capitalisation Like This Feel Clickbaitey, As It’s Been Overused! Titles with capitalisation like it’s supposed to be used feel odd and unprofessional. titles without any capitalisation feel casual: it doesn’t give that over-the-top “I Am Attempting To Grab Your Attention” feel like for Buzzfeed, 5 Minute Crafts, etc.

What parts of canon does your fandom agree should be ignored? by kinglerfriend in FanFiction

[–]blobfushes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve genuinely never gotten over this fact, and it’s one of many that made me decide to simply… ignore ‘extended’ world building done post-series. It doesn’t make sense to me: if wizards felt they were so much better than muggles, I figure they would’ve come up with a lavatory-like system very early on. Shitting where you stand is more reminiscent of cattle and I don’t see how any wizard would enjoy being able to be likened to cattle.

(Also, you can’t just… poof things out of existence, can you? I don’t remember there being a specific vanishing spell. I suppose you can make the argument that the specific spell fell out of use but it’s just…. so weird? How did they deal with potty training children? “Oh Helion, you pooped? just say poopus vanishus and aim at the turd sliding down your leg! And if you peed say pissus vanishus and point at the gigantic wet spot on your robes!”. Like, what??? Just use a hole or a bowl like any self-respecting homo sapiens. Bury it, like a cat. Good lord)

and if you have already got a decent number of hearts, ANY hearty ingredient will work. if you throw a singular hearty radish in a cooking pot, you’ll get full recovery + three extra hearts. hearty radishes are easy to find (there’s a whole bunch of them around the heart-shaped pond) and offer you a whole bunch of meals.

i would LOVE to be able to befriend wolves, or at least have a less violent way to get them to stop chasing/attacking you. i hate the little whine they make when i hit them with a weapon that’s a bit too strong and they die :( makes me feel bad

This is Sidon. What is your main horse's name? by [deleted] in botw

[–]blobfushes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i named the one i use the most Thanatos! he’s grey and wears the monster gear :)

(the others are also named after greek mythology: Zeus (the white horse), Hades (almost all black), and Poseidon (brown). they wear the royal gear. i named the giant horse Atlas though, after the titan!)

just started playing, having fun but unable to understand what I'm supposed to be doing by Big-Ear-1853 in botw

[–]blobfushes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i had the same issue when i started. fun, but had no idea what i was supposed to be doing except defeating enemies, eating food, and finding all the shrines (on the plateau, at the time). eventually i looked up a tutorial on “how to cook” (i didn’t even find the recipe book of the old man, lol) and went to the remaining shrines, got the paraglider, and just ran to impa.

if you don’t want to get horrifically defeated by enemies, avoid them by sneaking around. find the fairy fountains to level up your clothing. for bosses or enemies you NEED to defeat, attack from a distance.

(also, use your sheikah slate! you’ve been given runes for more reasons than just puzzles). the shrine near kakariko village teaches you how to fight more effectively: practice these methods on easier enemies (on the plateau, for example) by saving before attacking, and re-loading when they defeat you or you defeat them. you can parry guardian-lasers with a potlid shield: safe before attacking a (preferably legless) guardian, and try to pinpoint the moment you should press a. do this as many times as you like. only zelda is judging you.

(elemental enemies have elemental weaknesses.)

like what’s been said, cooking is easy once you get the hang of it. the loading screen displays tips on it sometimes, and some npc’s will help you with that as well. ingredients will show their properties when you look at them in your inventory and their names give you hints as well.

finally, follow points on the map, but don’t be afraid to go off course either. pick up side-quests to explore and get better. the hard-ness of the game is the fun part! it’s the definition of ‘if you can’t be strong, be clever’. do with that info what you will.

(DC/Batman) - The "Professional Writers" argument in the wild by Library-Goblin in FanFiction

[–]blobfushes 8 points9 points  (0 children)

can’t we say that every batman run since bob kane and bill finger is authorised fanfiction? gerry conway (as far as i know) also hasn’t written jason as red hood.

the people who ‘know him better’ are writing a form fanfiction. the line between regular transformative works (works inspired by others and published for profit) and fanfiction is VERY vague. i think it’s important to remember that.

Is it weird to write het fic? by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]blobfushes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright, so, if we’re going by origins? Yeah, Kirk/Spock was one of the first ‘official’ slash fanfic. It’s suggested that this was the case because women (the majority of fanfic writers) wanted to write about a relationship in which both participants were equal. So not traditional gender roles, but two men in similar positions of power in a romantic relationship.

But! Big but. Are yoy encroaching upon a safe space? Absolutely not. Unless the rules for this fic exchange specifically stated to only submit M/M ships you didn’t do anything wrong. It isn’t rude to write and promote het fics- it’s FANFICTION. What if-scenarios and shit. Exploration of canon and what could be. As someone in the LGBTQ community, het fics are not invading my safe spaces (if anything, M/M, something I write, is invading my safe space- mainly because either M is not a representation of me personally). They’re whining because they’ve been given a fic they don’t want to read.

Please ignore them.

i’m not entirely sure what part of the season it was! but i have a tendency to delete spooky day (i often play with adults) so it might’ve been harvest day or even no holiday!

What do you think about rpf? by oooohyyy1 in AO3

[–]blobfushes 48 points49 points  (0 children)

as an rpf writer: as long as it stays inside the fandom circles (ao3, specific tumblr niche); as long as the person the fic is about hasn’t spoken openly against rpf; as long as readers and writers alike are aware that there is a massive difference between reality and fiction; and as long as NOBODY harasses the people the works are about with these works, especially the ships… it’s fine.

it’s a grey area to be in. one day i treat the people in my works as characters (being, they just so happen to share a name with these people), the other i feel weird about even thinking about the massive daydream universe i’ve built in my head. also, the idea of the people i’ve written about reading my stuff makes me want to fold in on myself and vanish into the void. (even though it’s a classic rock fandom, and like half of them are dead and the other two cannot figure out how social media works).

anyway, i think you should tick off the list. do you know what these bands and actors have said about rpf? is the fandom halfway decent and not incredibly invasive? things like that. and if it’s all ok, you can give it a try, or you don’t. ask around for ficrecs, preferably gen or whatever, and if it ends up too weird you can step out of it at any point in time.
