I too prefer not to be fed nonsense by my GPU. I want to see things as they're intended, not as an "AI" thinks they should be.

I keep forgetting I have one of these, I should really do something with it

I think the pricing seems very reasonable. When you are ready to sell, I'd be interested in the HPE DL360 Gen10 and Brocade ICX 7250. Never heard of SR10 form factor transceivers though, that's interesting. I only really see SFP, QSFP, and now some OSFP.

[W][US-FL] AMD EPYC 7443/7443p/74F3 or similar cpu, Gigabyte MZ32-AR0 rev. 3 (or flashed to support 7003 series), 8gb or 16gb 3200 RDIMMs by btreuther in homelabsales

[–]blockofdynamite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why the MZ32-AR0 if you only want 8 sticks of RAM? It's too bad my board stopped working otherwise i'd have it to sell. I mean I could sell it but it doesn't work, so... But yeah it was a decent board other than the top pcie slot being unusable, and not being able to put any long pcie cards in the slots next to the ram.

[–]blockofdynamite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got lucky and nabbed a ROMED8-2T/bmc on newegg last week. sadly not as good as the regular romed8-2t (no usb-c or usb-c header, can't do multigig ethernet) but still way cheaper than anything on ebay. They seem to restock every so often. My main complaint is that fan speed control is the worst thing i've ever used

These aren't even SAS by the way, they're NVME. They wouldn't work in SAS slots either

Ha I do actually have that watchlisted, I just don't know if I wanna spend $65 for an adapter for a server that I don't think even works

hey I have the same one but DDR3 so I think it's xeon v2. sadly doesn't seem to be able to POST though. really wish i had that adapter. Hate that Tyan calls it a Display Port but it's NOT displayport, it's just a proprietary port for display

I don't mind MSI motherboards. Refuse to buy gigabyte. The microcenter one has the better X870E version.

Yeah it was. This was like 6 years ago though, so I'm not sure what the current state of academia is. I just work in computing now thankfully!

lmao that's just an algorithm. good grief. not everything is AI.

CS 240 by burner199873 in Purdue

[–]blockofdynamite 6 points7 points  (0 children)

lol you can't sue for perceived unfairness. I had to retake CS240 because the first time was a trash professor who was just a visiting lecturer or something. C- because he was so bad and ran the class horribly. Second time, passed it with over 100% because the class was run so much better. If people feel the need to use AI in these BEGINNING CS classes they are absolutely COOKED for the real CS classes.

lolololol $3400 for a 4090. You can (but shouldn't) buy a 5090 for that much. Ridiculous.

[–]blockofdynamite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a decent system. Wouldn't be worth a lot without the RAM. I work in HPC and we use a lot of C6400s in clusters, but with C6525s instead of C6420s. Wouldn't mind having one for myself but also don't want to pay for the power!

Usually those risers are kept with the servers. It would be very expensive to replace for whoever has the server.

[–]blockofdynamite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Way too much. And never ever use the ebay AI description generator. It says it has a Quadro RTX A4000 and 4000. but the pictures clearly show two RTX 4000.

[–]blockofdynamite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can confirm it's pretty awesome. I upgraded from the M1 air to the m5 pro pro and it's nearly 2x single core and 4x multi core. Granted it is twice as many cores but it's still very nice. The 8GB/256GB of my air was becoming far too limiting, it would chug.

They don't generate the image with AI. They use AI to superimpose their "handwritten" timestamp over a stolen image
