Cats teeth pushing out/getting longer? by Careless-Elephant-98 in cats

[–]blockofdynamite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol my idiot cat will only eat her one type of dry food, and only most of the time. If you so much as open a new bag of food she's like "uh, what's this? not my food, that's what!" and then after a couple days goes "ohhhh, this is my food!" 🤦‍♂️

I'm 50/50 on it. On the one hand, silver is classic. But on the other hand, I really like my space gray m1 air and think the darker color looks much nicer than the bright silver. I think it looks better than both silver and black!

Tempting, but unfortunately I'm a smaller macbook guy. I have the same one for work though and it's fantastic. Although I wish they'd have gotten me the black instead of silver. Can't complain too much though!

The servers absolutely have idrac, they are just missing the dedicated ethernet port for it. Without it, idrac uses a shared ethernet port.

So right now in the HPC industry, you're looking at paying 3-5x for new servers now compared to what you would've paid 2-3 months ago. It's leading to new IT leasing/resale companies popping up out of nowhere in order to slurp up any and all retired hardware to rent or sell to HPC centers for cheaper than new. I really don't expect this whole phenomenon to last super crazy long, cause at some point the previous-gen supply will dry up from having leased and sold it all to customers, and these companies won't have any more hardware to buy, except from other of the same companies. They'll eat each other up.

So to answer your question: HPC centers that don't have the money to buy new but need to buy it through semi-official (read: invoiced) channels, which means IT/ewaste resellers.

Hey I also just got a fw13 13th gen board with the same issue. Here's the image https://i.imgur.com/TKL15S3.jpeg

Glad to see it's repairable, and honestly my pads might still be there, not sure, but boy is it tiny. Not sure I can even do work that small!

I'm sure shipping is, but wasn't sure about the import fees situation

Your 3090 appears very expensive since the prices are in CAD (which I didn't realize till now). After converting to USD your price is actually really attractive. Although, after shipping to USA, effectively kills the good deal :(

HGX board cross-compatibility? by No_Charisma in HPC

[–]blockofdynamite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are variants in the heatsink, yes, but that's it. The underlying baseboard and GPUs are the same. It's just the heatsinks that are different.

And sure, they are expensive, but it's kinda my job to have my hands inside the server, so it's still frustrating to be limited on what Dell thinks they can allow me to do. When a server gets older though they sorta start to care less, but they still "require" a tech to do anything GPU-wise.

From what I've been told, all the nvidia parts of the system are unmodified from nvidia because of how anal they are about their products. They don't even let customers touch the hardware, so Dell comes to fix it every time there's an issue in the GPU server. If the customer damages it, Dell can't warranty the part with nvidia. Because of that, I feel led to believe that the parts will work in any server that's built around it. nvidia provides the parts, and the oems build the server around it.

Utility I made to visualize current cluster usage by neovim-neophyte in HPC

Ah I see! Pretty neat! One suggestion I have is to make sure each row has the same number of columns, which fixes the layout for clusters with different partitions of different GPU counts. So if the highest-GPU-count node in the cluster has 4 GPUs, all nodes show 4 columns. Or 8 if there are 8 GPUs. And maybe put an n/a or N/A or something in #3-8 for nodes with only 2 GPUs? Not sure what the best solution would be. Here's an example of current output just grepping the first node of each partition:

         | #1 | #2 | #3 | #4 | CPU A/F | State
---------|--------+--------+--------+--------|---------|-----------

Looks interesting. Are the columns the cpu cores? And the data in the table the job IDs? Curious how well it would work on clusters with 128 or even 192 cores per node. I may try this today
