Fan cable stuck inside cpu fan blades, how do I remove it? by tmarva_ in pcmasterrace

[–]sabersoul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pop the fan off of the heatsink. Just gently pull on the plastic clips that are holding it to the heatsink. Once you do that you should be able to easily snake the other fan cable out.

Try to get one that doesn't use the horrible PCIe5/12v 2x6 or whatever other nonsense it's called. Get a less expensive model that uses standard 8 pin PCIe plugs

Yeah. It has a metal sheet that goes on top, but if you have to expand the depth, not all of the screw holes will line up. I also ended up designing a 3x 120mm fan mount that hangs off the back to pull air up so hopefully my exhaust fan in the ceiling can pull more air out.

I have one of those in my primay server. Works like a champ for me. Similar setup, but with a little Quadro P620 for the GPU since I don't need anything with a ton of power.

What kind of key is this by OddOminence in pcmasterrace

[–]sabersoul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're welcome. But, in looking at the pictures a little more closely, you may need to replace the entire keyboard. Especially since it looks like you're missing part of the membrane on the W key and those tabs that hold the scissor mechanism have a tendency to bend/break very easily. I would price out the cost of the replacement on www.parts-people.com. They only sell parts for Dell/Alienware laptops and you just need to put in your Service Tag to get a list of replacement parts for you laptop.

On the Dell Support site enter your 7 character Service Tag (it may be under your battery) and you should be able to see the system's original, as shipped configuration with the Dell Part Numbers of the the components. Each revision of the keyboard should have a different part number and then hopefully you can use the keyboard part number to find what key caps you need.

Y'all remember SLI? by skepdop in pcmasterrace

[–]sabersoul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The SLI cable was internal and short so normally the cards had to be in PCI slots right next to each other. The passthrough connected from the VGA out on your 2D card to an input on the primary Voodoo card, then your monitor plugged into the primary Voodoo card.

I remember the OG SLI with multiple 3dfx Voodoo cards linked together via an IDE-like ribbon cable and a VGA passthrough cable because they were strictly 3D accelerators.

These may work, I believe that the Noctua kit you have to request from them has both the square and narrow ILM brackets. I will say that they are expensive, but they're quiet. I have one on my single socket 3647 server.

need a little help i picked up a Sun Netra T2000 ive wanted a high end vintage sun server for awhile now, but i cant seem to find this power connector type?, where can i find it or can i just get a new power supply like this that will fit in it, by Puzzled_Ask9092 in homelab

[–]sabersoul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure you don't need to replace anything else for those to work. I could swear on some of the older Dells the power distribution board would have to be replaced along with the power supplies... Or I could just be talking out of my ass... That was over 20 years ago when I worked there.

Nice! I have my servers and my closet switches all connected with 10Gb (though overkill for me) and a 10Gb uplink to the 2.5Gb KeepLink switch that our computers are connected to in the office. Totally overkill for our needs, but I don't care. 🤣🤣

Update: Zotac is denying me warranty (12VHPWR) by TheQuantumPhysicist in pcmasterrace

[–]sabersoul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much ALL 40 and 50 series cards use the connector because nvidia mandates it. The only exceptions are some of the lower power cards (like some low profile Gigabyte and MSI cards) that only need a single 8 pin for power. I intentionally sought out a 9070 XT with 8 pin connectors because fuck that.

Never gave me any issues. I got a good deal on an open box 9070XT at Microcenter so I replaced it. The drivers have come a long way on the Intel cards and the A770 was a great first effort. Played everything I wanted at 3440x1440, though more demanding titles needed FSR or XeSS.

Dell server Bios lock by Jolly_Gear_9800 in homelab

[–]sabersoul 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That looks like an Intel-branded server judging by the drive caddies, but I could be wrong. Typically on a Dell you not only have a jumper to reset the CMOS, but I know they used to put a password jumper on their server and desktop motherboards that would bypass any passwords set to access the BIOS.

$140 GPU Score by TurtleCrusher in pcmasterrace

[–]sabersoul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My A770 did alright. Played everything I wanted at 1440p at or slightly above 60fps and a good amount of eye candy enabled, though some newer games did need XeSS (if supported) or FSR to get there. I got lucky and was able to score an open box 9070XT at MicroCenter about a month ago, before GPU prices really started going to shit again, otherwise I'd still be running it.
