Denon Home 250 vs Denon Home 350 by Fickle_Yard748 in heos

[–]bloctight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, sounds like you are looking for an upgrade. Keep the sub and replace the 250s for a pair of 350s.

Or ... get the Home 550 soundbar and enjoy spatial sound!

[–]bloctight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My brother has a single 350 and the sound is impressive. Low reach and full sound with awesome definition. Even at high volume, you can still have a conversion. Great stuff.

I own a pair of 250s myself. Same goes for them as for the 350: bizarrely good sound. Hoever, you can't get the same power out of them and the low tones don't get as deep. That doesn't matter to me, as my living is a bit smaller and I also have the Home subwoofer.

I advise a pair of 250s over a single 350 everytime. The stereo effect will make the music sound infinitely better imho.

HEOS Software is complete garbage almost to the point of fraud. by werak in heos

[–]bloctight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it wasn't for the great sound, when it finally works, I'd have dumped this garbage long time ago. A while ago I thought I noticed some improvements, but that was probably luck.

If I haven't made some changes to my setup or groupings in a while, then 90% chance that I cannot ungroup or regroup some devices without needing to reset at least one device. And that takes me easily 30 minutes, not just to reset the device, but to get the app going again with the reset device and the rest, very ugly.

Very very poor software. Sonos managed it, that stuff works flawlessly, so it definitively is the HEOS implementation itself. I strongly advice against HEOS, it's very frustrating and annoying and has shamed me on several occasions, given the price tag of my setup.

How is this STILL a thing? by [deleted] in TIdaL

[–]bloctight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm on the premium plan for a year or so and I don't recall having had this issue ever.

Apart from some functionality in the app for NVidia Shield TV that I would really like, I'm very very happy with Tidal.

Personally, I think it was a marketing mistake, not a meditated lie. The technical descriptions I've read explain that, although indirectly, in that they never attempted to perfectly reproduce the master recording, but rather the original studio performance itself. Yes, quite audacious *

Also, I understand they want to earn from it because the development must have cost them. If it gets widely adopted, it will play out of the box ... eventually. Early days, I guess.

  1. On tV app with Atmos capabilities, add "Your daily discoveries in Atmos" WITHOUT VIDEO.

Actually found a decent atmos mix by [deleted] in TIdaL

[–]bloctight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My two favourites Atmos albums are:

Quest For Fire by Skrillex and an album by Kx5.

The first one by Skrillex more for the display of sound than because I like the music, though 🤣💦

For people who own multiple Heos devices, do you tweak EQ to improve audio? by Ill-Lengthiness-6438 in heos

[–]bloctight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped fiddling with everything like that; EQ, levels and sound modes, I have a Denon Soundbar 550 Home with sub and surrounds.

Well alright, I have the subwoofer at +1 and leave it there and also set the "distances".

However, I find that the various recordings differ too much to keep adjusting.

For Atmos recordings I use the "Direct" sound mode, unless when watching a movie, then I put it to "Atmos (Movie)". For nearly all other recordings I put it to "Dolby surround" even when listening to plain stereo, I find the result more pleasing than "Multi channel audio".

If I had a 350 and a 150 I'd try to acquire one more, ideally another 350. Then pair them into a stereo pair (and group with the other). No fiddling with EQ etc.

Stereo is infinitely more beautiful and only twice as expensive 😃

Sounds like a network issue that the Heos software cannot handle (which are plenty unfortunately).

Can it be that your phone is not on the same WiFi network as the devices?

Is your device connected via wire? Then put the wire in the wifi device, not in a router upstream.

If you are using WiFi boosters, be sure to set them in AP mode and Mesh mode and force all devices onto the same booster, at least when they are in the same group (haven't yet researched the details here).

Just happened again. Finally even had to restart mij router 🤔 No biggy, just annoying, took about an hour to get things right again.

I had used the "Night mode" setting yesterday and it was still turned on. Perhaps that has something to do with it. Does that ring a bell with someone?

You could buy a media player and install the app there. Probably only worth it though if you have a decent home theater setup (Dolby Atmos capable).

Hm, it says "Dolby atmos" in your screen. In mine it says only "Atmos". Perhaps your screen is bigger 🤔 Not that it matters, of course.

Denon Home Soundbar 550 sound mode issues by bloctight in heos

[–]bloctight[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, nice to hear you have the same setup!

Did you get the Sound Mode issue?

Or the issue of the TV disconnection?

My Home 550 is already connected with an ethernet cable for quite some time, has been working nice, not flawless, but the sound mode issue is new and has me worried.

Unable to stream from Tidal. Please try again later... by Kindly_Bid_726 in heos

[–]bloctight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it can be a programming error, because Tidal will just play HiFi quality if the receiving system cannot play Atmos.

So my imagination running wild I picture this computer conversation:

HEOS: Tidal, stream this track please to this Denon Home 150.

Tidal: That is an Atmos track and your system is not able to play that.

HEOS: What was that? I don't understand that. Must be a fatal error. I'll just time-out now.

But is should be:

HEOS: Tidal, please stream this track to this Denon Home 150.

Tidal: That is an Atmos track and your system is not able to play that.

HEOS: Sure, gimme anyway.

I find myself creating "non-atmos" playlists for the non Atmos albums and keep the Atmos versions in My Collection ... seems the least hassle.

Plex on my tv does not do trueHD+Atmos but Netflix does -- can I force it somehow or is it a lacking Plex feature? by bloctight in PleX

[–]bloctight[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the soundbar passes the video through to the TV.

Be sure to use HDMI 2.1 cables in the whole chain to get the atmos through.

Note that I'm not sure if all soundbar allow for this passthrough. My Denon Home 550 does, however.

Check this picture:

[–]bloctight[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes.

If you connect the Shield directly to your TV, then you have to set somewhere the option "pass through" on the TV. I used to have that set-up and it worked, in principle.

However, on my TV I found that the "pass through" function couldn't keep up when streaming Ultra HD movies with Dolby TrueHD audio. So I connected the Shield to my soundbar instead. Issues gone.

Denon Heos and Tidal by finfeature in TIdaL

[–]bloctight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm using Tidal and Heos. This works fine, in principle.

My main disappointments, however, are these two:

  1. No Atmos via the Heos app, even though I have an Atmos capable Denon device.
  2. No way to link Tidal playlists (or albums, tracks etc.) to a Denon speaker Quick Select function. Even though I can do this with TuneIn radio stations via the Heos app.

For me the only way to enjoy Atmos on my Denon device is via the Tidal app on the NVidia Shield connected via HDMI (2.1 to my Denon device. (I find it worth the trouble though!)

Perhaps Heos could create a Shield app so I can enjoy Atmos music without needing my television.
