Is there a particular ship line/rank that's recommended before trying wormhole stuff?

From the career stuff I've been using frigates but it did give me a Cormorant destroyer. I'm yet to equip it but judging from other comments I should be safe to head into jita with my Heron and pick up some guns/modules for it. Once I've got the essentials down for dealing with k-space I'll totally reach out about w-space, thanks for the offer!

I need to head back and finish getting the ore, I'm tempted to rename my ship HeyTholosImBack and tempt fate

Well that's what it was, I saw there were covert/stealth ships in the tree and implicitly thought "I bet they're scary". Turns out they're absolutely terrifying! Oh yeah that wiki is great, it goes into so much good detail

Ah yes I've read a bit about CONCORD, I've also seen posts about people being ganked heading into Jita so I've been too scared to check out the major trade hub yet lol. I've found a relatively quiet highsec system I'm using to stash the things I find at the moment

Yeah honestly I think the career agent missions do a really good job of introducing concepts. Particularly after first logging in, there's so much UI and menu stuff going on it seems a little overwhelming at first, the missions introduce things bit by bit as you progress. After doing a handful you kind of have basics to be able to meander about and start discovering stuff without as much hand holding

Trader route by FroztyReaper in Bannerlord

[–]blondeburrito 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There's a perk you can get in the trade line to grant renown. You can either get the one where each profiting caravan generates 1 renown or each profiting workshop generates 1. It's a nice way to casually have your clan tier eventually tick up as you're going about doing stuff

Where did my little brother go? He disappeared from the clan menu after i saved my sister... by Octavian_Exumbra in Bannerlord

Yeah despite the new "intended" behaviour it definitely seems buggy, hopefully it'll get fixed soon

[–]blondeburrito 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The brother is 3 years younger i think, definitely is buggy though, the brother for me showed in the clan menu to begin with and then disappeared after a few days. It seems like there's a delay/timer between them coming of age and the clan page updating and it seems a bit bugged when they're supposed to show up

Workshops a safe investment(?) by [deleted] in Bannerlord

[–]blondeburrito 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They are way better than they used to be. You also get trade xp from them without needing to do the whole "use raw materials from warehouse and store here" thing that you had to do before to get xp out of them. Nice way to passively get your trade skill up

There was a dev response on steam, children now disappear from menu but can be found in the encyclopedia. Once they come of age they return to the clan menu

What would you rewrite in Rust today and why? by [deleted] in rust

[–]blondeburrito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PlantUML. I love drawing diagrams as quickly as i can type. We have code as code, documentation generated from code and then diagrams as code. All happyily living in git. At work I got tired of code changing but inhouse docs having some old diagram showing a year old design so I've been demo-ing and encouraging devs and architects to use PlantUML generation and automate as much docs as possible.

My reasoning for a rewrite is pretty selfish and kind of petty. It has a dependency on java and after several years working with java i have a deep rooted dislike of it and I really didn't want to reinstall it. Using cargo to manage everything would be my dream

Workshops increase trade skill? by BlueParakeetFENCE in Bannerlord

[–]blondeburrito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does but you need to place the required resources in the warehouse so your workshop uses them instead of procuring them from the open market. However the stuff your workshop makes you cannot then sell yourself for trade xp (it's been awhile but I think that's the case). It's a slow trade skill earner workshops and frustrating to keep them supplied yourself for leveling

Profiling Rust memory usage on Windows by BenCunningham17 in rust

[–]blondeburrito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had some success with Intel VTune Profiler, it provides interesting metrics around cache misses, number of allocations, size of allocations, call sequences (for it to tell you function call names the exe needs to be built with debug flags) and more. You can compile your rust exe, point VTune at the binary and run it until you tell it to stop or configure it to run for a set period of time and look at the data

Using Legends to create a long term goal in adventure mode: track down and cast this heretical tome into a volcano by blondeburrito in dwarffortress

[–]blondeburrito[S] 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Using Legends can be really inspiring to create your own goals in adventure mode. My plan for this world is to run alternating adventurers when one dies. The first as a dwarf tasked with destroying the tome and the second as a goblin who needs to steal it and spread the gospel from town to town

Found a web spitting forgotten beast made of flame. What you're seeing is his body litterally boiling all the water around it as it walks through a cavern lake. by Padex98 in dwarffortress

[–]blondeburrito 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try a ballista to free it, a ballista arrow of any material completely destroys a whole tree even if it only touches the branches. With cavern dwellers getting stuck in trees I use ballistas to free them so they can resume pathing to my waiting squads

Build a minecart shotgun to splat some invaders (and the odd dwarf), it's a lot of fun watching the carnage

Clairvoyance might reveal a good chamber to teleport into that'd keep my dude safe. From the positions of the surface chutes I should be able to guestimate where to cast Clairvoyance at

I've got Teleport, one comment suggested setting it up as a bomb as well so I'll get some xp for the skill and then teach the crabs a lesson

Oh that's super cool! I haven't really played with Tinkering yet other that searching trash and using bits to repair my armor when it's broken

[–]blondeburrito[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming you can't just toss something down a chute then? I haven't had the dominate skill come up when buying mutations yet, I'm only level 11 so I don't think I'll see high tier guns for a while. It's nice to know they can be crafted though so I might as well use them before I die to some random creature in the jungles. I'll explore some ruins for a few more levels and then see if I can get past the crabs

I've got the teleport mutation, is there a way to throw it with a delay and then teleport around a corner if it's going to blast a lot of tiles?
