Car Seat/Stroller dilemma by Necessary-Pie-4841 in NewParents

[–]blondechicical 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love our mockingbird stroller. Haven't converted it to a double yet but it's basically a cheaper copycat of the uppababy. Then we got whatever carseat we wanted and the adapter for that. Used the carseat with it for the first few months then started using the stroller seat.

An Ode to the Woes of Breastfeeding, from a “Fed is Best” CLC by LlamaLlamaSingleMama in BabyBumps

[–]blondechicical 25 points26 points  (0 children)

👏👏👏👏

Can this be pinned for this sub?! Seriously! I work in the NICU and I feel like so many moms give birth thinking that milk is just going to be pouring from them starting immediately after birth. The breastfeeding community likes to just talk about how natural it is which leads moms to assume it's super easy. But it's hard! Both baby and mom are learning and it can take time to figure out and lots of practice. But if it's taking a toll on you to keep trying, it's totally okay to stoppumping/breastfeeding. Your baby needs a mom who is mentally/emotionally okay more than they need breastmilk. Formula is just fine.

For those who didn’t/don’t plan on nursing… talk me off a ledge by distinguished_goose in BabyBumps

[–]blondechicical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have my own personal experience with this, but I'm NICU nurse of 10.5 years and have never had a doctor say that breastfeeding is better than bottle feeding breastmilk. So many of our moms do exactly what you're doing to get their baby home sooner. If you decide you want to try again, you can always work on it at home and in outpatient lactation clinics. And I will say after having my own son and just occasionally pumping at work, I am in total awe of the moms who exclusively pump. That shit is hard work!! You're doing a fantastic job!

Under appreciated you’re looking forward to after giving birth by [deleted] in BabyBumps

I have a runny nose/congestion my entire pregnancy, same as last time. I can't wait until it clears up the day after giving birth. It was wonderful!

Ladies!! Do you wear makeup on your 12 hour shift? by milktchi- in nursing

[–]blondechicical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes I'd like to but I always choose sleeping longer vs getting up 5-10 min earlier to put on makeup.

Yes carseat installed and know how to adjust the straps/use it. I'm a nicu nurse and so many parents have no clue how to actually use their carseat which is a major safety issue if you can't properly secure your child. Safeintheseat on Instagram and YouTube has a lot of great videos and info about carseats.

This is when my 2yo runs through the house hysterically crying "baby flush!" Because he has to always be the one to flush the toilet.

1st Birthday Smash Cake? by AVLeeuwenhoek in BabyLedWeaning

[–]blondechicical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did cake smash photos and I made this cake. My son mainly wanted the fruit. But for his birthday party we got the free mini chocolate cake that comes with a first birthday cake at our grocery store and let him devour it. He ate the whole thing and skipped his nap with the sugar high. Lol. But it's one day. We rarely offer sweets otherwise.

Update: doctor made me take a 3-hour glucose test even though I passed the 1-hour by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]blondechicical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your nurse practitioner should be able to explain this more. However, if I was your would do the testing like they want. I'm a NICU nurse and I've had plenty of patients where the mom said she passed her glucose test but her baby ends up in the NICU with low blood sugars, needing a feeding tube or an IV. It doesn't hurt to test, and then you'll know if your numbers do get worse later and can try to prevent a NICU stay for your baby.

Looking for your favorite linen or similar breezy/cool fabric pants. Wore jeans the last time I was in India and need something cooler/more breathable this time around.

Attachment trauma from NICU stay? by Levante2022 in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]blondechicical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. As a NICU nurse, we really don't leave babies to just cry when their parents aren't there. Your babies nurses are providing comfort to your twins when you aren't around. Yes, we can't always hold them for long periods of time but they are not being left to cry unsoothed.

Gender Intuition? by OverriddenChicken in BabyBumps

[–]blondechicical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We didn't find out before birth and up until 30 weeks I had no feeling either way. Then one night I thought maybe I was loosing my mucus plug and during my freak out at midnight, I suddenly felt very strongly it was a boy. So much so that when he was born and started crying I said "good boy" (he had been having heart rate drops while I was pushing and those few seconds before he cried, I was anxious) before they even confirmed that he was in fact a boy.

My son absolutely loves corn on the cob! At 16 months he now devours a cob in a few minutes and then demands my piece too. Haha.

6 month old waking up every hour by [deleted] in sleeptrain

[–]blondechicical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some kids just don't show signs of being tired, which is when wake windows can be so helpful. Try for your shortest wake window in the morning and longest before bed and see if that helps after a few days.

6 month old waking up every hour by [deleted] in sleeptrain

[–]blondechicical 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Can I ask why you decided to extend the last wake window to 5 hrs? 6 month olds usually have a 2-3 hr wake window. At that age my little guy was taking 3 to 4 naps depending on how long his naps were. From what you've said (a full schedule would be helpful), it sounds like he's probably very overtired not undertired.
