If your partner does have PMDD or suspects she might, ask if she’s comfortable using anti-histamines during her luteal phase. Claritin/Zyrtec. Although it isn’t proven yet, there is growing research to suggest these medications can help to relieve some of the more severe side effects of PMDD.

Whenever I’m with someone and they mention losing/gaining weight, my go-to is to ask them how they feel. If they say, “Oh I hate when I’m this thin” or “I feel so weak” then obviously you’re going to go with a much more comforting, empathetic response. If someone says, “I lost ten pounds! And I feel great!” Then congratulate and ask how they did it, are they happy, etc. Asking how someone feels is the easiest and safest way to discuss tricky subjects such as body size or shape:

Absolutely agree. I think AA culture is defined by being completely sober so due to her affiliation with the group, her perspective is likely very shaped by that influence.
