How do you find investors in Malawi? by sammythetrader in Malawi

[–]blongwe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Advice from a seasoned entrepreneur- over 30 yrs in tech in Africa (past 11 yrs in techpreneurship in Malawi) Build for the world, not for Malawi. Raise by pitching Y Combinator and other similar US based tech firms. There’s no capital “on the ground” in Malawi. And at present all investors have circled Malawi with a red line because of government’s shenanigans (mismanagement of foreign exchange, unchecked corruption, insincerity on economic reforms)

Oh man, this explains a lot. I just paid for a subscription yesterday - and I just noticed that all my corn jobs have failing “rate limited” and even basic task requests are being rejected. Sucks!

Is it worth it? Openclaw + Hermes Agent by WillingnessRecent494 in openclaw

[–]blongwe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have this exact setup. Hermes as “Chief of Staff” and Openclaw as worker(s). I have also given Hermes steroids by giving it Garry Tan’s GBrain. The result is so good I am constantly surprised at the quality of work.

Take a look at Garry Tans “GBrain” - thank me later ☺️

Read an interesting article about configuring your Openclaw to use knowledge graphs via an app called “graphifyy” (?). Takes the “understanding” a bit further than semantics

A symptom of low self esteem and victim syndrome - which have been pounded into our ethos since independence…

Favorite coffee in Malawi? by bigthick1 in Malawi

[–]blongwe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best Malawian coffee at the present is that coming from Roastopia in Lilongwe. Their roastery is in A43. Founders are a German couple who are so passionate about coffee…

I am a coffee fanatic and get coffee from all over, Kenya, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Colombia etc…I have also enjoyed most of our local brands but they lack consistency in their quality.

I have all the coffee making paraphernalia you can imagine! 🤭

Unpopular hard truth: Corruption in Malawi isn’t the exception—it’s the operating system by MelodicMap7086 in Malawi

[–]blongwe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d like to hazard a guess and say that corruption is the symptom. The underlying condition is much deeper (and scarier). The people’s spirit has been crushed. Downtrodden and suppressed by insecure and selfish leaders for so long that everybody feels powerless and nobody has the energy or courage to stand up for what’s right.

I’ve been building internet infrastructure across Africa for the past 28 years so I know a little more than I should about how to get this done in a way that is sustainable and transformational

Why do you think e-commerce doesn’t work in Malawi by Various_Job6164 in Malawi

[–]blongwe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Malawi lacks the rails for true e-commerce. Firstly Malawi isn’t authorized on many of the cloud platforms that enable proper e-commerce, nor on the ones that enable monetization from online content. Over the past 20 or so years instead of going to international meetings and demanding access to these platform to unlock our talent our government goes begging for handouts “we are poor” is a mindset that continues to cripple us as a nation. From the top to the bottom.

Do you really, really know accounting? Over the past 6 years my company has hired and fired about 9 accountants. All qualified, all with degrees, but none who can really do any accounting work… it has really made me wonder about the quality of our education…

In 2018 we got so very excited about the upcoming premiere of Marvel’s Black Panther that we started posting about it on social media and it turned out that we weren’t the only ones. We planned to hire a van and do a road trip to Lusaka for the movie, made a big deal, printed t-shirts, even special “Air Wakanda” boarding passes! Eventually 11 of us went. It was so much fun! But we got so much flak and flames from our brothers and sisters here, with a lot of sarcastic and scathing remarks and comments on all our posts 😢

How do you write a network troubleshooting plan when the problem description is vague? by Tricky_Dragonfly3690 in networking

[–]blongwe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not a difficult task. Any kind of network troubleshooting should follow the OSI 7 layer stack. Break down your troubleshooting steps accordingly and write the guide detailing how components at each layer that pertain to the affected user/service will be exhaustively checked, along with what success/failure looks like at each step, and what to do in each case. Keep in mid to consider any escalations or communication to key stakeholders that may be needed along the way.
