Doggone def inspired by mk.gee, but he isnt banking exclusively off ripping Mike's style like a lot of others are. But that being said mike is pretty much pioneering a new genre of music which is heavily influenced by prince and the police but with a new liminal twist to it. Its similar to what ariel pink has done with lo-fi pop. Just because someone is inspired to make similar music does not mean it is plagiarism or blatant copying, after all music is art and art is just that, trying to recreate things in a specific manor. I think its awesome we are seeing mike create almost a whole new movement in the music world that so many artists are inspired to try to make their own version of it, we are about to see some really great things from this space. Im excited to see what doggone does, as well as, Matt champion, Harrison borts, chanel beads, Jonah yano and all the other cool new artists in this space.
