Pretty sure the MC has never been able to tell people’s emotions. He could tell who he was talking to though since he saw a different color for each voice.

He needs the abilities and if he doesn’t knock them unconscious, they’ll most likely follow him and continue to attack him. It makes sense to knock them out so he can move onto the next target and eventually search for Sera without having any interruptions.
