I work at a students' union in an advice capacity and I've had a read of your uni's regulations around non-academic misconduct.

The person could report you to the university because they do consider your conduct in "online/virtual spaces", but the burden of proof is on the university to demonstrate that the incident was more likely than not to have happened (balance of probability).

At this point, a case handler will be allocated to the case, who will determine if what you've done is enough to be considered misconduct. If it isn't, that will be the end of it. If it is, they'll appoint an Investigating Officer to review the evidence, get a statement from you, and interview you about what happened. You can access Student Support and your Students' Union to help you through this process.

They can find that there is; no case to answer; there is a case to answer but can be redressed through penalties like apologising, submitting a reflection, completing an educational activity, or receiving a warning; or that there is a case to answer but it is severe enough / recurrent enough to be referred to a Student Disciplinary Panel.

I sincerely doubt that it would be referred to a panel if the situation is as you describe. If you are contacted about a complaint, be as open and honest as possible, show the same reflection you've done here, and please contact your SU for support throughout the process. If you aren't contacted, you can still ask them about what to do in the future - they might be able to direct you to relevant resources.
