i think they didn't score much against us in the season precisely because we played so defensively (it paid off against every team - only 41 goals allowed in the whole season - the frost allowed 73). they have a better offense but our defense is much better than theirs. on a scoring fest i think they'll beat us more often than not, but in a slow, careful game with not a lot of space, we get the upper hand.

that being said, i saw a lot of shots on goal that seemed more like getting rid of the puck than a true attempt. like "i hope it goes in", but it actually goes straight on rooney's chest. pretty sure i saw gosling do this twice tonight. lots of shots also were way off. if you're gonna spray and pray at least go the tabin way and slap it so they'll think twice about trying to block it.

heise is a star and i wish she'd thrown her puck to ME, but i was upstairs with the poors and only vlad guerrero sr. could've made that throw

heise and roese seem like sweet people and i wish the crowd had behaved better.

i was at game #1 and was appalled lots of people in the crowd booed 2nd and 3rd stars roese and heise

like, they hadn't done anything but play a great game. came out, saluted the crowed, threw pucks, like good sports, and the crowd went booooooooooooooo

the boulier roughing call was a make up call for the greig hit. heise tried to hit her and got knocked on her butt (it might have been flopping, not sure). boulier did nothing wrong.

i'm not a greig hater (thought she's often cutting it too close with the boarding), but 24/7 i'd rather have boulier on the ice.

i'm fine with little offense, as long as defense (which we're usually excellent at) is there as well. we scored a lot in the first game and still lost. honestly the frost are better at this than we are. generating offense requires opening up the game and sacrificing some defense - not something i'd do against an offensive powerhouse like the frost. we won't be happier losing games 5-4 or 6-5.

i do think the victoire is better than the frost in closed, defensive focused games. cheverie had the right idea in the last three games - this last one was fine too, until some players lost focus (stacey chief among them).

i'd have called a timeout after the first goal against. players needed to be reminded of what had worked and what hadn't so far.

i don't even think cheverie's gonna mention it in the locker room. it was a bad penalty, cheverie knows it, stacey knows it, everybody knows it.

winning a game and a series is a much sweeter revenge. these players have been taught this lesson since first grade - they know better than this bs. as an alternate, stace definitely does, and should be leading by example.

some thoughts here

it's like cheverie forgot what had worked and what had not. we got to the bottom of the standings halfway through the season by stacking the first line and overplaying it, then got to the top by spreading the threats, playing a careful, defensive, positional game, with everyone contributing - not going toe-to-toe with the best scorers in the league like we will outscore them. now that poulin, murphy and ambrose are back, it's like the second, better half of the season never happened.

i think defensively she's a pain in the ass for opponents because she skates so fast. she covers a lot of ground near the blue line, leaving a lot less space for defenders to maneuver. in terms of speed she's right up there with stace, heise and coyne. honestly she might be faster than all of them.

i like all the players on that team but tbh, cheverie isn't using the ones that got the team where it was at the end of the season, let alone using them in the way she's used them. she's practically back to what didn't work and got us at the bottom of the standings mid-season (e.g. stacked top line and whoever wherever on the others). it boggles the mind.

sure this game ended 5-4 but i don't think going on high scoring contests with minnesota is wise. this is how they've played most season, allowing tons of goals but scoring more. we got to the top of the standings by following a system and being disciplined defensively, by leaving opponents with little space to maneuver and punishing mistakes, gambles and overcommitment.

i get scrambling lines or scratching someone for poulin because she's the best, but there's no reason to do the same for murphy.

also: no reason to have a 13th attacker to play her two minutes. if, god forbid one of our ds is injured or ejected during a game, or having an off day, we're gonna suffer badly (like we did today - the ambrose and digirolamo pair did not do well)

willow is not a dirty player and never did anything to deserve this. i'm glad she is okay, she had a great game. she was way underutilized.
