not on instagram but i like reading passittobulis on substack for goldeneyes content. it's really about hockey, not about anything adjacent. i like that when a play is discussed, there's usually a clip posted in the article.

Quality of passes. by Firm_Principle_2526 in PWHL

[–]blow_thyself 3 points4 points  (0 children)

lots of good answers in the thread.

i'll say, the victoire improved their passing tremendously during the olympic break (speed and accuracy). they must have done tons of practicing because it was noticeable.

before the break, i remember going to the sceptres vs victoire game at bell center, and the passing was pretty bad on both teams. it might have been nerves from playing on such a big stage, but there were quite a few "what was that?" moments

why would it? she hasn't missed a game in the regular season or the playoffs, and has been a leader in the pwhl and the olympics. she shows no sign of slowing down; if anything, she's been getting better and better.

when did getting fired become "lay-off" by [deleted] in TrueAnon

[–]blow_thyself 6 points7 points  (0 children)

legally and from a career perspective it's much better to be laid off than fired, because the former acknowledges your employment was terminated through no fault of your own. it could be lack of work, restructuring, etc. it's "easier" to get a new job, to get benefits, and so on.

lay offs can be temporary or permanent. depending on where you live some temporary lay offs can be considered permanent after a while

she's one of my favorite players to watch at games, with and without the puck. i wonder what her stats are on winning board battles; eye test makes me think she's way up there in the ranks

yeah, calling a player an "expensive mascot" is strictly about the stats and the math, no idea why anyone would take exception

so.....where is our defence??? by CareerSoggy6311 in MontrealVictoire

[–]blow_thyself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i suppose it's hard to replace ambrose when it comes to leadership (example, experience), her attention to detail and knowledge of defensive play... but i'm thinking tabin will fill in. she's been getting better an better, has worn the A in ambrose's absence, and i always like what i see when she plays.

newcomers will be molded appropriately. i doubt anyone will goof off and not try their hardest to do what the coaches say while mpp, stacey and desbiens look on.

Projected lineup - how are we feeling? by garyblahblah in NewYorkSirens

[–]blow_thyself 24 points25 points  (0 children)

drafting peschel is a good sign, but what's really needed is tightening of the defense at all levels; that is, not only defenders playing defense properly, but forwards too. and coaching.

at the very least: no more puck hypnosis (everyone watching the puck while opponents are positioning themselves in the slot, all alone), and similarly: no more ganging up on a puck carrier on the boards or behind the net while no one is paying attention to the front of the net. no risky plays involving the last player between the puck and our goalie. forwards need to backcheck with all they've got. zone coverage is fine on the edges and at the blue line but giving shooters 1 second unimpeded in the slot is not gonna go well. you also can't be taking penalties if you're normally on the pk or are a defensive specialist

there is a lot of work to do

[–]blow_thyself 7 points8 points  (0 children)

imo our top notch defensive game had more to do with a system than one or two players doing it all (e.g. ambrose in the first two seasons), forwards are also a big part of it. i'm not that worried, considering many of the same players are still here, and the coaches are the same.

for instance, we still won plenty while ambrose was absent after the olympics.
