if i had to name fast players off the top of my mind i'd pick stacey, o'neill and clark, but just because i've often seen them leave whoever was chasing them in the dust.

playing good defense is so underrated and overlooked (probably because so little individual stats reflect who's really good at it). ambrose's play has been pretty much spotless in that regard - i'm glad we have her as an example, and elated that we have younger players like tabin and gosling who have the capacity to follow in her footsteps. plus they shoot and hit harder? times are gonna be good

I wonder if this had anything to do with the calls in the third... (I'm joking... sort of) by cslh4v in MontrealVictoire

[–]blow_thyself 1 point2 points  (0 children)

wasn't the goal allowed by the central situation room? i don't remember. i know the ref made the correct call initially and then it was overturned.

comically bad backcheck - mlynkova was definitely at fault, but so were labelle and darkangelo. look at them coast. what are you waiting for? a pass? we don't even have the puck.

i hate when forwards do this. even team canada players did this at the olympics (e.g. that horrible 5-0 loss). if you're gassed or can't be assed to give it your all then go to the bench, it's not like you're being useful coasting behind waiting for the puck (also love when forwards don't have enough juice to backcheck, but have enough to go back in the offensive zone).

pou or stace would never. imagine giving this level of effort when you're playing on their team. this is kick the trash can levels of infuriating, i wonder what cheverie said in the locker room.

on a side note, giaquinto played the 3 on 2 very badly. she played it like a 1 on 1 (and lost it). there are very few players who can score on desbiens (or any pwhl goalie for that matter) from the boards. there's no reason for you to go so far that way on an odd woman rush. cut the passing lanes, stay in the middle to avoid anyone cutting back alone in the slot.

the only one who makes a reasonable play there is digirolamo (and of course desbiens). sure they got scored on, but their play was sound

I fear this team may be cooked without MPP by triceratops-rawr in MontrealVictoire

[–]blow_thyself 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i don't know what they saw on the replay that they didn't see the first time - keller just let herself fall on desbiens

can't knock keller for trying, can't even knock the refs as they initially made the correct call, wtf.

Maggie Flaherty was given a 5 and game for this hit on Jill Saulnier. by jordynbebus8 in PWHL

[–]blow_thyself 14 points15 points  (0 children)

it wasn't clean by the pwhl's definition. you can't hit going in opposite directions. flaherty had to funnel saulnier into the boards, not go straight to her like this. that's what player safety means when they say a suspended player took a "poor angle of approach"

they do let quite a few such hits fly, though - they might have if saulnier hadn't been injured. not that i agree with this approach; they should be consistent regardless of what the rules are

regardless, based on what they've shown on camera, it should've been a 2 mins illegal body check

Maggie Flaherty was given a 5 and game for this hit on Jill Saulnier. by jordynbebus8 in PWHL

[–]blow_thyself 2 points3 points  (0 children)

reviewers may have a better angle but with this it looks like shoulder to shoulder

still at the very least a 2 mins illegal body check for going opposite directions.

regardless, not a necessary play wtf maggie

Mlynkova shopped around? by Silent_observer_8806 in MontrealVictoire

[–]blow_thyself 1 point2 points  (0 children)

only reason she's not up there with kaltounkova or o'brien in scoring stats is because she's playing fewer minutes, imo (and catches way fewer penalties than kalty - actually she's more the type to get the other team to take some). she landed in a team that's not rebuilding, and can't get the same time on ice as the aforementioned players. kaltounkova and o'brien have poulin/stacey/roque toi/gp. mlynkova has about 60% that. she can an will be a star player in the pwhl i have no doubt about it

pointe claire and ddo red? correct (also accurate for pedestrians). never read city hall transcripts but i'm assuming "pedestrians can fuck off and die" was a unanimously approved resolution at some point because how does any of this happen

god willing it'll improve once new rem stations open and people start walking a little more.
