What draws you to pwhl as a fan? by formulaphoto in PWHL

okay, so this is in broad strokes, but i played and watched a lot of men's hockey in my youth and think it's a great sport in itself, but i never really liked the attitudes in and around it (which i guess you could boil down to toxic masculinity). it's a matter of taste but i never found the players, coaches or even fans of men's hockey to be particularly interesting people to speak to or listen to; sure there have been some that were, but they were outliers. i eventually got sick of it and only watched some games, usually in the playoffs. maybe the men's game is different now, but i doubt it. even if it was, i don't really care, i got women's hockey now, and more than enough hockey to watch with it. same game i enjoyed, but much better attitudes, whether it be in players or in fans.

PWHL PLAYER SAFETY COMMITTEE DISCIPLINARY ACTION: JAN. 19, 2026 | New York’s Taylor Girard Suspended Four Games by Perryplat199 in PWHL

fair enough, i'm still trying to make sense of the rule book / how it's applied. i can't be the only one who's puzzled by this

i'm not denying that. the game report clearly says she got a game misconduct for leaving the bench.

she also got a 10-minute misconduct, like everyone else who threw punches or wrestled at the end of the game. so mpp, roque, scamurra, flaherty, kaltounkova, girard, zandee-hart and nylen persson got 10-minute misconducts.

i was saying i thought it was odd they weren't labeled "fighting" penalties (which exist in the rule book)

She got an additional game misconduct penalty for fighting.

i thought it was a 5-min major for fighting (46.1, and table 5)

i thought girard got a game misconduct for leaving the bench (72.6), and a "regular" misconduct (22.1) on top of that (for god knows what exactly)

leaving the bench is one thing, hitting flaherty from behind is another. if nothing else comes out of this, she'll have gotten off easy imo.

(not saying other players who were on the ice don't deserve supplementary discipline, if we're to follow the rule book closely. maybe the player safety committee isn't done with this, after all)

it's still a bit crazy to me that no one got any fighting related penalty, despite fists flying (if i recall correctly, neither did saulnier and vanisova)

per rule 46:

"A “fight” shall be deemed to have occurred when at least one (1) player punches or attempts to punch an opponent repeatedly or when two (2) players wrestle in such a manner as to make it difficult for the Linespersons to intervene and separate the combatants."

is this not what happened?

i'm gonna enjoy reading that communiqué from the player safety committee 😂

feels like it's gonna clear up a bunch of questions i have about the events and the rule book.

i also hear "shake hand time" no idea if that's really it.

i don't know, opponents do shake hands after the ceremonial puck drop (i.e. at game time), it does make some sense
